Compactness with increased operational capacity
Saved space
Icw ACB. Switchboard design
benefits in two ways especially, a
more space saving ACB, plus a
lower temperature rise as result of
fewer moving parts associated with
the double break contacts assembly.
The TemPower 2 ACB has more than
20 design patents registered
covering it’s unique main contacts
design. 345 mm
458 mm
The height and depth dimensions are identical in all sizes up to 3200 A, with only the width varying
according to the amp rating. There are two common width or frame sizes from 800-2000 A and from
2500-3200 A. The panel cut out size is the same for all sizes of the TemPower 2 ACB, thus simplifying
fitting a variety of breaker sizes into a switchboard. The 4000A TemPower 2 ACB has an increased
width & depth, while the height is common with other sizes.
Maximum power from minimum volume was central to the design specification. With a depth of
345 mm, the TemPower 2 is one of the smallest ACBs in the world in terms of overall dimensions and
one of the smallest when it comes to depth. TemPower 2 ACBs are available with draw-out carriages,
with either front or rear terminal connections. A front connected ACB is especially suitable where a
switchboard has less depth available.

Position switches, door interlock
Position switches
Position switches operate to give an indication of an ACBs status or position relative to the carriage.
A position switch indicates the following positions: CONNECTED, TEST, ISOLATED, and INSERT. There
are two contact arrangements: 2c and 4c. Connections to the switches are made screw terminals.
Tab terminals are available as an option. The following table lists the switch types available.
Door interlock
The door interlock prevents the switchboard door from being opened unless the breaker body is in the
ISOLATED position. Only when the draw-out handle is removed from the ACB when the ACB is in the
ISOLATED position, is the door interlock released and the switchboard door allowed to open. When inserting
the ACB back into the carriage, the switchboard door must be closed once the breaker is in the ISOLATED
position. When the door interlock is supplied a special draw-out handle is also supplied.
Refer page 56 for draw out handle details.

General functions
The TemPower 2 over-current relay provides flexible protection functions within 3 different relay types:
AGR-L L = General / Industrial & transformer protection
AGR-R R = Standard Inverse, Very Inverse, & Extremely Inverse curve
AGR-S S = Generator / Marine protection type
In terms of features other than characteristic curves, AGR OCRs can be split into 3 general categories:
Standard type: AGR-11 (L, R or S curve)
Advanced type: AGR-21 (L, R or S curve)
Advanced LCD display type: AGR-22 (L, R or S curve)
AGR OCRs contain many overlapping features, meaning an OCR can be chosen for a particular application.

3 Pole ACBs
When using a 3-pole ACB with ground fault protection function to protect a 3-phase, 4-wire system against
ground fault, an external current transformer (CT) must be installed for the neutral line. NHP can provide this
neutral line CT as an option. Refer below for types and dimensions.
4 Pole ACBs
4-pole ACBs will have a similar measuring CT installed in place of the neutral line CT in an ACB when the
ground fault protection option is fitted. Therefore an external CT is not required.

Busbar connection supports
Busbar connection supports
The busbars to the ACB should be firmly supported near the ACB terminal. Fault current flow through the
busbars develops a large electromatic force between the busbars, and the support must be strong enough
to withstand such forces. The ACB terminals should not be relied upon as a busbar support.
The maximum distance of the connection point of ACB to the first busbar support.
The above connection recommendations are applicable to vertical, horizontal and front ACB types.

Note: ) This figure indicates the vent or cut-out size required in the switchboard, for adequate ventilation
to occur. For example: a value of 300 cm2 could represent a cut-out size of 3 cm high x 100 cm wide. (3 x 100 = 300 cm2).

8 Ordering Data
TemPower 2 ACBs are locally assembled by NHP and can be supplied with many variations and options to
suit specific end user applications. The list below represents typical specifications to be considered at the
time of ordering:
2. Number of poles
4. Operating temperatures
6. Terminal arrangements. For example rear connect vertical or horizontal main terminals. Front connect
terminals are also an option.
7. Type of charging. Manual lever (standard) or motor operated. If a motor is chosen then the operating
voltage has to be specified.
8. The OCR (Over-current relay or "release"). The OCR type needs to be chosen depending on the
requirements of the installation. NHP / Terasaki have as standard "LSI" OCRs in all ACBs. Basic AGR-
11L OCRs are available with or without ground fault.
For feature details covering basic OCRs and more advanced OCRs with features such as
communications ability, LCD displays plus other options, please refer to page 34-42.
9. Electrical tripping devices: Other options such as Shunt trips, Under voltage releases, or capacitor
trips need to be considered.
11. Contact your NHP sales office for any other special requirements such as service or repair, retrofitting,
spare parts, test reports etc.
