KAP ENGINEERING EHS PROCEDURE

ISO 45001:2018
DOC No: EHS-SP-02 ISSUE NO:01 Rev No: 00 Rev Date: 01-08-2018
TITLE: ENVIRONMENTAL ASPECT IMPACT AND HAZARDS & RISK ASSESSMENT
(6.1.2)
1.0 PURPOSE:
To determine the environment aspects/ Hazards of activities, products, services and
infrastructure that can be expected to have an influence in order to determine
those, which have or can have significant impacts on the environment /OH & S
Performance.
2.0 SCOPE:
Applicable to activities, products, services and infrastructure of KAP ENGINEERING
3.0 GLOSSARY AND ABBREVIATIONS:
a) Environment : Surroundings in which an organization operates, including air,
water, land, natural resources, flora, fauna, humans and their interrelationships.

b) Environmental aspect: element of an organization’s activities or products or

services that interacts or can interact with the environment.
 An environmental aspect can cause (an) environmental impact(s). A significant
environmental aspect is one that has or can have one or more significant
environmental impact(s).

 Significant environmental aspects are determined by the organization applying

one or more criteria.

c) Environmental impact: Change to the environment, whether adverse or

beneficial, wholly or partially resulting from an organization’s environmental
aspects.

d) Life cycle : Consecutive and interlinked stages of a product (or service)

system, from raw material acquisition or generation from natural resources to final
disposal The life cycle stages include acquisition of raw materials, design,
production, transportation/delivery, use, end-of-life treatment and final disposal.

e) Hazard: Source with a potential to cause injury and ill health.

f) Risk: effect of uncertainty .Risk is often expressed in terms of a combination of

the consequences of an event (including changes in circumstances) and the
associated “likelihood” of occurrence.

g) Occupational health and safety risk- OH&S risk:

Combination of the likelihood of occurrence of a work-related hazardous event(s) or
exposure(s) and the severity of injury and ill health that can be caused by the
event(s) or exposure(s)

h) Occupational health and safety (OH&S) opportunity:

Circumstance or set of circumstances that can lead to improvement of OH&S
performance

departments.
4.2 A List of Processes and Process Owners (L-15) is EHS MR
prepared and released to all Department/ Section In-
charges.
4.3 Process-wise teams are selected to work on the EHS Process Owner /
management aspects of the sections under a EHS MR
department.
4.4 Process Owner /
A comprehensive list of activities, products, services
EHS MR/Core team
and infrastructure (which can be expected to have an
members &
influence on the EHS) is prepared for every section by
Section-wise teams
referring Work instruction for Quantitativeevaluation of
environmental aspect/impact and hazards/risk (EHS-D-
110/111) for each applicable process/ sub-process.
4.5 An Environmental Aspect Impact Assessment / Hazards Process Owner /
identification and Risk Assessment is conducted for EHS MR/Core team
each activity, product, service or infrastructure listed members
as in 4.2 to determine the elements of these which
interact with the environment (i.e. the environmental
aspects) and their associated impact on the
environment considering the following:
 Life cycle Perspective (L-12)
 Legal and other requirements (Ref.: EHS-D-
108)
 Emissions to air
 Releases to water
 Releases to land
 Use of raw materials and natural resources
 Use of energy
 Energy emitted
 Waste and by-products
 Physical attributes (e.g. size, shape, color,
appearance)
Details of the environmental aspects and impacts are
recorded on the Environmental aspect/ impact analysis
sheet (Ref.: EHS-D-110).
For Determining applicable Environmental Aspect /
Impacts, Hazards and Risk Work Instruction for
Understanding Environmental Aspect Impacts Hazards
and Risk are referred.

4.6 For each environmental aspect/ Risk, detailed as Process Owner /
above, significance is evaluated. Criteria for significant EHS MR/Core team
environmental aspects and Significant Hazards refer members &
Work Instruction for Understanding Environmental Section-wise teams
Aspect Impact and Hazards and Risk (EHS-D-110/111).
Accordingly, significance rating is allocated in the
Environmental Aspect / Impact Analysis Sheet.
4.7 The information on identified significant aspects / Process Owner /
Hazards is used for establishing EHS objectives / EHS MR/Core team
targets and EHS management program (EHS-D-107) members &
to ensure appropriate corrective actions and Section-wise teams
development of/ revisions in work instructions.
4.8 Updating of information:
The information on the identified environmental Process Owner /
aspects and significance analysis is reviewed, revised EHS MR/Core team
as necessary and kept up to date in case of the members &
following: Section-wise teams
 Introduction of new activities, products, services
or infrastructure
 Changes to the existing activities, products,
services or infrastructure
 In the event of emergencies, accidents or
nonconformities
 Changes / addition to legal and other
requirements
 Periodic review (Six Monthly )
4.9 The Significant Environmental Aspects and Significant EHS MR
Hazards are communicated through email, On Job
Training, Induction Training, Training to various Levels
and functions of the organization.
