DEPARTMENT ORDER SUBJECT: Kilometer Post as Locational

NO. 324 Reference Points (LRP) of the


DPWH Locational Referencing
System (LRS)

Kilometer posts are a fundamental part of the DPWH Locational Referencing


System (LRS) for the National Road Network. Locations of kilometer posts form the
basis of data collection on the road network, and are fundamental to many computer
applications being implemented in the Department.

The Department has recently conducted a Road Infrastructure Survey that


included locations of kilometer posts as Locational Reference Points (LRP's). The
location (i.e coordinates) and photo of these kilometer posts as LRP's are now stored
in the LRS-Geographic Information System (GIS) being maintained by the Planning
Service. The Department is also implementing a computerized Road and Bridge
Information Application (RBIA) that relies on detailed knowledge of the positioning
of kilometer posts.

In view of the above, new installation, removal or re-positioning of kilometer


post shall be, reported immediately to the Planning Service by the Head of the
implementing office that undertakes such activities using the form in Annex "A" of
this order by providing the following information, viz:
Column 1 - Road Name (e.g. Maharlika Highway)
Column 2 - Kilometer Post (e.g. KM 107)
Column 3 - Event (i.e. new installation, removal, re-positioning or re-
labelled)
Column 4 - Description, include location information (i.e. describe the
information label on the kilometer post)
Column 5 - Date of Modification (e.g. November 12,2002)

This Order shall take effect immediately and supersedes all previous
Department Orders and other issuances or any provision thereof that are inconsistent
herewith.
