LEADERSHIP CULTURE

• Think like a leader

• Character of a leader

• Communicate like a leader

• Grow like a leader

• Multiply like a leader

1. Think like a leader: Servant

Mark 10:45 For even the Son of Man came not to be served but to serve, and to give His life as a ransom for many.

When you come, you are looking for what you can do to serve.

You are not waiting for a position or title to do something or serve the people. You come with a clear intention “what can I do
to serve?”

No to celebrity pastors.

2. Character of a leader: Christlikeness, Holiness, Fruit of the Spirit

1 Timothy 3:1-7 Therefore an overseer must be above reproach, the husband of one wife, sober-minded, self-
controlled, respectable, hospitable, able to teach, not a drunkard, not violent but gentle, not quarrelsome, not a lover
of money. He must manage his own household well, with all dignity keeping his children submissive, for if someone
does not know how to manage his own household, how will he care for God’s church? He must not be a recent
convert, or he may become puffed up with conceit and fall into the condemnation of the devil. Moreover, he must be
well thought of by outsiders, so that he may not fall into disgrace, into a snare of the devil.

This is the complete list of qualification of pastors and small group leaders.

This is our lifelong checklist for ourselves.

3. Communicate like a leader: Accountability

James 1:19-20 Know this, my beloved brothers: let every person be quick to hear, slow to speak, slow to anger; for
the anger of man does not produce the righteousness of God.

2 Kings 17:14, 40-41

Proverbs 12:15

Proverbs 15:31

Proverbs 18:13

Develop your capacity to hear.

Communication is not just being able to preach. Communication is more about being able to build accountability.

Voices that Wise Leaders Must Listen to:

1. Leaders

2. Friends

3. Peers

4. Followers

5. Critics

6. Spouse

7. God

Communication:

- Check your emails regularly

- Check your SMS regularly

- Check your messenger regularly

- Be courteous and send replies

- Use Facebook, IG and Twitter not to brag about yourself, but to communicate to people. Use social media to watch over
their lives and to check what they expose themselves to.

- Think and pray before you reply or post comment.

Pastors should be good communicators - on stage and off stage.

4. Grow like a leader: Lifelong growth

Welch: Before you are a leader, success is all about growing yourself. When you become a leader, success is all about
growing others.

Revised: Before you are a leader, success is all about growing yourself. When you become a leader, success is all about
growing others… while continuing to grow yourself.

In the secular, when you reach the top, you stop growing and you just start “ruling” over everyone.

In Biblical leadership, the higher you go, the more you continue to grow.

Luke 2:52
And Jesus increased in wisdom and in stature and in favor with God and man.

Warning: Not all growth is healthy.

Because of the misplaced priorities that spring from our microwave-ministry philosophy, pastors of slow-growing churches
often suffer from “growth envy” discouragement and are tempted to reject healthy, but slow, methods of growth. They
replace slow methods with the latest get-big-quick growth scheme. Abnormally rapid and huge growth is often an indication
that something is wrong.

Medicine: rapid and enormous growth is often caused by a tumor on the gland that controls our development, and results in
multiple health problems, high blood pressure, diabetes, enlargement of the heart, and sometimes premature death.

5. Multiply like a leader: Discover, Develop, Impart, Deploy

2 Timothy 2:1-3 You then, my child, be strengthened by the grace that is in Christ Jesus, and what you have heard
from me in the presence of many witnesses entrust to faithful men, who will be able to teach others also.
