panel will show Zero
- Indicating lamps of 400/132KV breakers and isolators will not glow in control room and
in
yard local control panel.
- All breakers/Isolator “ON” or “OFF” status will remain same. However Ammeters will
show
current

- Hand tripping as well as protection trip of feeders through DC 1 will be in service for all
400
kV panel as well as 132 kV panel
- Protection tripping from DC 2 will be out of service for 400 kV feeders.
Instructions when DC Supply Main 1 fails
- Change annunciation /supply to DC-2 at Bus section panel.
- If restoration of Main - 1 DC is not possible within 2 to 3 hours, decision to shut down
by
initiating protection trip to be taken for 400KV feeders.
- No protection/tripping will be possible for 132KV feeders. However 132 kV will be dead
after
tripping all 400 kV feeders.
NTPC/SINGRAULI
7
Instructions when DC Supply Main 2 fails
- Eforts for restoration of DC –II supply to be taken up. If same is not possible within 5 to
6
hours decision to shut down through hand trip is to be taken for 400KV feeders.
- 132KV Feeders will be healthy and available for 132KV panels only DC-1 has been
provided.
(For 132 kV panel DC-2 is also from same DC DB. This will be connected in due
course).
Instructions when both DC Supply Main-1 & Main-2 fail
simultaneously
- Eforts to be made to restore at least one of DC-1 or DC-II after which selective tripping
can
be taken p as may be decided.
- Using a 220V DC + emergency source tripping of all units one by one can be initiated.
- In extreme cases, emergency trip provided on ABCB’s, MOCB’s and unit 4/5 Generator
CB’s
can be actuated to isolate units 1 to 5 Unit 6 & 7 having SF6 CB will not be possible to
be
isolated.
- The lines can be got tripped from other end as required.
Switchyard 50 Volts PLCC DC supply failure

volt
(on PLCC DCDB)
- PLCC will fail & there will be no speech communication from other stations.
- Protection system will fail though PLCC however on unit basis protection system will
remain
in service there will be no tripping through PLCC i.e. No feeder tripping will take place in
case
of tripping from other end.
Instructions
- Immediate action to be taken for normalization of D.C. supply to PLCC.
- Operator should rush to PLCC D.C.D.B. battery room / battery charger room to check if
any
fire has taken place/fuses blown.
- At least portable battery charger/temporary supply should be taken in service with the
help of
Electrical Maint.

C.W. System D.C. Power Supply System
CW has two sets of 50 volt battery each having 24 cells and 1000 Ah capacity.
- 50 Volts DC supply have been used for all 6.6 kV & 0.4 kV breaker ON/OFF indication,
their
control panel indication and their protection and control system.
- For relay panel/control panel.
- For emergency light in CW pump house and CW switchgear.
- For emergency closure of 2 x 500MW CW pump discharge valve.
Indications in case of DC supply failure.
- 50 Volts DC volt meter will show zero reading at DCDB
- None of the indicating lamps on 6.6KV CW buses, control panel of both CW pumps
houses
as well as Relay panel in switchgear will glow.
- All pumps running status will remain same and pump running status can be known by
their
ammeter reading. However for emergency trip operation breaker can be tripped through
mechanical trip at breaker.
- In stage-I, CW discharge valve status will remain same as it was prior to DC failure.
The
valve operations should be done manually.
- In stage-II, CW discharge valve will close on DC supply failure, thus loss of DC supply
is
detrimental to Stage-II CW pumps as pumps
INSTRUCTIONS:
On 6.6 kV buses DC selection is provided in Bus VT panel. On failure of DC, go to
switch
board & put above selection from DC1 to DC 2 or vice versa
Condition 1: Only DC 1 fails
a) Put selector switch of DC at bus VT panels of 6.6KV to DC 2.
b) Put selector switch at Bus coupler of LTMCC stage-I to DC 2.
c) Transformer protection is out. Trip transformer from 132KV yard manually if
required. (For 6.6KV Bus A & Bus B only DC 1 is provided. Provision of DC2
through selector switch yet to be made available.)
d) Put of DC 1 and switch on DC 2 at dist board located at Auxiliary Pump house.
Try restoration of DC 1.
NTPC/SINGRAULI
9
Condition 2: Only DC 2 fails
a) Put selector switch of DC at bus VT panels of 6.6KV to DC 1.
b) Put selector switch at Bus coupler of LTMCC stage-I to DC 1.
c) Transformer protection is out. Trip transformer from 132KV yard manually if
required. (For 6.6KV Bus A & Bus – B only DC 1 is provided. Provision of DC2
through selector switch yet to be made available.)
d) Put of DC 2 and switch on DC 1 at dist board located at Auxiliary Pump house.
Try restoration of DC 2
Condition 3: Both DC sources fail
a) Immediately trip 500MW CW pumps by tripping transformer C and D from 132 KV
switchyard Control room.
b) Stage-I will remain in operation without protection and control DC try restoration of at
least one DC. If not possible trip entire stage-I from 132KV C.R
(Loss of DC Supply is detrimental to 2X500MW CW Pumps because
pumps will keep on
running on shut off head)
