Head of Chartering IP

Overall Role Purpose


Responsible for the overall management of the Marine charters, Project carrier relationship and core
carrier agreements

Reports to
Global Operations Director

Responsibilities and Objectives:

 Negotiation and fixing of Charter opportunities

 Calculation and pricing of shipping agreements

 Preparing / follow up LAYTIME calculations and balance freight invoices and final Charter
Statements

 Evaluate and Qualify project carriers, establish agreements with Core carriers

 Produce regular Bench mark of rates and market research

 Communicate and enforce utilization of the Global Marine Insurance

 Prepare Cargo / Hire / Freight claims according to the Charter Party

 Ensure that we are optimizing our charter opportunities globally

 Find opportunities for consolidation and savings through global collaboration.

 Preparing Pre voyage estimates

 Prepare Post Voyage Analysis Reports

 Provides inputs to terms and conditions for prime and other contracts as well as for fixed
contracts associated to Charter operations

 Ensures contract execution per commercial terms and conditions, interfacing with testing audit
and compliance

 Ensures vendor development is in compliance with DHL IP Procurement and Project procedures
and policies
 Develops vendor KPI’s and ongoing vendor performance assessment

 Supervise contractual budgets, contract close outs, claims, dispute resolution and legal remedies

 Ensures sharing and incorporation of Chartering management best practices

 Establishes positive working relationships with area managers and project coordinators

 Maintain a record of Marine Charters

 Analyse Charter Parties and Contract of Afreightment updates

People - Management:

 Work with customers, business development, account managers, project teams and other
functional resources (finance, risk, legal)

 Facilitate training to educate interested parties across the business on chartering contractual
obligations

 Work with all levels of staff as required to ensure the charter operation is handled as committed
in SOW and that contract obligations are accomplished

 Develop, build and maintain excellent client relationship with shippers / ship owners / brokers /
principals / clients / agents as well as with heavy haulers assigned to managed contracts

 Manage and Work together with other chartering brokers located in other regions

Key capabilities, skills:

 Over 10 years relevant experience business experience in Project chartering

 Ability to work in teams, across different regions and cultures

 Analytical skills, particularly in assessing risk and reward

 Technical project management skills

 Communication skills verbal and written

 English (mandatory) – additional language preferred (German, Chinese, Spanish)

 Legal knowledge desired, specifically in with BIMCO Charter Pary


 Well-developed network of contacts and clients in the region

 A team player, prepared to work under intense pressure to meet schedules and datelines

 Persuasive, Ambitious, Self-Starter and Result-Oriented

 Organized & attentive to detail

Educational Qualifications:

 Bachelor’s degree in Maritime or Logistics related field

 Master’s degree / Chartering Brokerage certification preferred

 Experience working on the carrier side

 Strong Knowledge of the shipping industry, practices, and Charter Party negotiation
