THE EPISCOPAL COAT OF ARMS OF

MOST REV. ROBERTO ORENDAIN GAA

BISHOP OF NOVALICHES
EXPLANATION OF THE COAT OF ARMS

On the dexter side is the seal of the Roman Catholic Diocese of

Novaliches. The star depicts the original settlement in Hacienda Tala
which was established by Governor General Manuel Pavia y Lacy,
Marquez de Novaliches. The light shining from the star is, according to
the words of Fr. Horacio de la Costa, SJ, pagus novae lucisor place of the
new light. The chalice and the host symbolize the first parish church
founded by the Augustinians which was dedicated to the Blessed
Sacrament. The light blue color background is emblematic of the La
Mesa Dam reservoir, main source of water for the whole Metro Manila,
and also represents the Marian character surrounding the presence of the
Lord in the Blessed Sacrament.

At the sinister side are the Bishop’s personal symbols pertaining to

his life and ministry. The upper field shows where the Bishop was formed
as a priest. Against the red background, a color associated with the
apostles, atop three wavy lines in blue, the heraldic symbol for water, is
depicted a fishing boat that represents the Holy Apostles and their
mission as fishers of men (cf. Matthew 4: 18-20). The sail is depicted as
the Greek letter Chi- Ro taken from the logo of the Holy Apostles Senior
Seminary in Makati City where the Bishop undertook his seminary
formation and later on assigned as a formator and eventually its rector. At
the upper corner of the field is a crescent moon (cf. Revelation 12: 1),
taken from the seal of the Archdiocese of Manila that signifies the
Immaculate Conception, patroness of the Archdiocese where the Bishop
comes from.
EXPLANATION OF THE COAT OF ARMS

The lower field with the white background, a symbol of prayer and
holiness, pertains to the saints who greatly influenced the Bishop’s spiritual
life. The sword marked with AMDG (ad majorem Dei gloriam) signifies the
sword that St. Ignatius offered in Montserrat that reflects his self-surrender to
God. The Bishop as seminary formator regularly facilitates retreats according
to the Ignatian Spiritual Exercises. The Tau cross imposed on a sun signifies
St. Francis of Assisi and the date of his Transitus, October 4, which is also the
Bishop’s birthday. According to accounts, on that same day, St. Francis asked
his brothers to pray with him the Canticle of the Sun, a prayer which he
himself composed, praising God and His creation. Through St. Francis’
example, the Bishop strives to follow the virtues of poverty, humility, and
simplicity.

The motto of the Bishop, FINEM FIDEI SALUTEM ANIMARUM, is

taken from 1 Peter 1:8-9, “Although you have not seen him you love him;
even though you do not see him now yet believe in him, you rejoice with an
indescribable and glorious joy, as you attain the goal of faith, the salvation of
your souls;” and inspired also by St. Ignatius’ first principle and foundation,
“God created human beings to praise, reverence, and serve God, and by doing
this, to save their souls.”

Halleluiah, Halleluiah
FRANCIS, BISHOP, SERVANT OF THE SERVANTS OF GOD,
To our beloved son ROBERTO ORENDAIN GAA, from the clergy of the Archdiocese of
Manila and up to now Rector of the Holy Apostles Senior Seminary, nominated Bishop of
Novaliches, greetings and Apostolic Blessing!

Having been profusely empowered by spiritual gifts through the Spirit, may we have a mind
that is pleasing to God and may we be befitting of the will of the Lord, so that from him “we may
receive mercy and find grace for timely help” (cf. Hebrews 4, 16).

Nurtured by great trust in God and supported in the solemn task of looking after the good of the
sheep, as we govern the universal Church, we are led by them to careful consideration, so that
through them the welfare of Christ’s faithful is cared for.

It is with kind affection, therefore, that we turn Our heart and soul to the ecclesial community
in NOVALICHES, which has been vacant following the resignation of her last Bishop, our
Venerable Brother Antonio Realubin Tobias, and is awaiting a new Pastor and leader in
diocesan life. We therefore thought of you, our beloved Son, who are learned in spirituality and
who in the exercise of your responsibilities have outstandingly shown yourself to be of human
and priestly virtues, and so we deem you well-suited for undertaking the mission at hand.

Therefore, having heard the advice of the Congregation for Bishops, by the fullness of our
Apostolic authority, we appoint you Bishop of Novaliches, granting you the rights that are due
to this office and imposing upon you the obligations related to it. You may receive episcopal
ordination anywhere outside the city of Rome, the liturgical norms being observed, from any
catholic Bishop, after having made the profession of faith and taken the oath of fidelity to Us
and to Our Successors, in accordance with the sacred canons. We desire that you make this
decree of Ours known to the clergy and the people of the said ecclesial community, whom we
wholeheartedly encourage to welcome you as steward and teacher.

Dear Son, hold Christ’s faithful in your heart so that, in being molded by your leadership, they
may be abundantly replenished from the overflowingfont of the Gospel and, by being
exemplars of mutual charity, they may be brought to unity.

Given in Rome, at Saint Peter’s, on the sixth day of June in the year of our Lord two thousand
and nineteen, the seventh of Our Pontificate.
SEATING OF THE NEW BISHOP

The Cardinal invites the new Bishop to sit on the Cathedra.

EPISCOPAL BLESSING

As the Choir sings the Te deum, Bishop Gaa will pass through the Nave of the
Church and will Bless everyone.

HOLY GOD WE PRAISE THY NAME

1. Holy God, we praise Thy Name; 5. Thou art King of glory, Christ:
Lord of all, we bow before Thee! Son of God, yet born of Mary;
All on earth Thy scepter claim, For us sinners sacrificed,
All in Heaven above adore Thee; And to death a tributary:
Infinite Thy vast domain, First to break the bars of death,
Everlasting is Thy reign. Thou has opened Heaven to faith.

2. Hark! the loud celestial hymn 6. From Thy high celestial home,
Angel choirs above are raising, Judge of all, again returning,
Cherubim and seraphim, We believe that Thou shalt come
In unceasing chorus praising; In the dreaded doomsday morning;
Fill the heavens with sweet accord: When Thy voice shall shake the earth,
Holy, holy, holy, Lord. And the startled dead come forth.

3. Lo! the apostolic train 7. Therefore do we pray Thee, Lord:

Join the sacred Name to hallow; Help Thy servants whom, redeeming.
Prophets swell the loud refrain, By Thy precious blood out poured,
And the white robed martyrs follow; Thou hast saved from Satan’s scheming.
And from morn to set of sun, Give to them eternal rest
Through the Church the song goes on. In the glory of the blest.

4. Holy Father, Holy Son, 8. Spare Thy people, Lord, we pray,

Holy Spirit, Three we name Thee; By a thousand snares surrounded:
While in essence only One, Keep us without sin today,
Undivided God we claim Thee; Never let us be confounded.
And adoring bend the knee, Lo, I put my trust in Thee;
While we own the mystery. Never, Lord, abandon me.
GREETING AND HOMAGE

The Clergy of the Diocese of Novaliches and designated representatives of the

religious and the various sectors in the Diocese give homage and offer a sign of
obedience and reverence to the new Bishop. During the greeting and homage,
appropriate hymns are sung.

After the homage, the Bishop will deliver a short greeting.

Bishop Gaa:

My dear people of God,

THE LITURGY OF THE WORD

READINGIRevelation 21:9b-14

On the foundation of the city were inscribed the name of the Twelve Apostles of the Lamb.

A reading from the Book of Revelation

he angel spoke to me, saying,

T “Come here.
I will show you the bride, the wife of the Lamb.”
He took me in spirit to a great, high mountain
and showed me the holy city Jerusalem
coming down out of heaven from God.
It gleamed with the splendor of God.
Its radiance was like that of precious stone,
like jasper, clear as crystal.
It had a massive, high wall,
with twelve gates where twelve angels were stationed
and on which names were inscribed,
the names of the twelve tribes of the children of Israel.
There were three gates facing east,
three north, three south, and three west.
The wall of the city had twelve courses of stones as its foundation,
on which were inscribed the twelve names
of the twelve Apostles of the Lamb.

The word of the Lord.

Psalm 23

Refrain:
The Lord is my shepherd, there is nothing I shall want.
The Lord is my shepherd, there is nothing I shall want.

The Lord is my shepherd, I shall not want.

In verdant pastures, He gives me repose.
Beside restful waters He leads me.
He touches my soul.
(Refrain)

He guides me in right paths for His name's sake.

In the dark valley I fear no evil
for He is at my side.
His rod and His staff give me courage.
(Refrain)

And I shall dwell in the house of the Lord

all the days of my life.
(Refrain)

The Lord is my shepherd, there is nothing I shall want.

GOSPEL ACCLAMATION

After the new Bishop has blessed the Deacon, the latter takes the Book of the
Gospel from the altar and raises it aloft.

Meanwhile, the Alleluia is sung by the assembly led by the choir as the deacon
processes to the ambo for the proclamation of the gospel.
GOSPEL John 1:45-51

Deacon:

The Lord be with you.

All: And with your spirit.

Philip found Nathanael and told him,

“We have found the one about whom Moses wrote in the law,
and also, the prophets, Jesus son of Joseph, from Nazareth.”
But Nathanael said to him,
“Can anything good came from Nazareth?”
Philip said to him “Come and see.”
Jesus saw Nathanael coming forward him and said of him,
“Here is a true child of Israel.
There is no duplicity in him.”
Nathanael said to him, “How do you know me?”
Jesus answered and said t him,
“Before Philip called you, I saw you under the fig tree.”
Nathanael answered him,
“Rabbi, you are the Son of God; you are the King of Israel.”
Jesus answered and said to him,
“Do you believe
Because I told you that I saw you under the fig tree?
You will see greater things than this.”
And he said to him, “Amen, amen, I say to you,
you will see heaven opened and the angels of God
ascending and descending on the Son of Man.”

The Gospel of the Lord.

The deacon brings the book of the Gospels to the new Bishop. TheBishop
kisses the book and blesses the people with it as the choir sings the Alleluia.

so that we may rise to a new life.
Now, after hearing the Word of God,
let us renew the profession of faith made at our baptism
and recommit ourselves

and our brothers and sisters in his holy Church.

When the Altar and the gifts have been prepared, Bishop takes the paten with
the bread and holding it slightly raised above the altar says:

Blessed are you, Lord, God of all creation.

Through your goodness we have this bread to offer,
Which earth has given and human hands have made.
It will become for us the bread of life.

R./ Blessed be Godforever

The deacon pours wine and a little water into the chalice saying inaudibly:

By the mystery of this water and wine

may we come to share in the divinity of Christ,
who humbled himself to share in our humanity.

Then the Bishop takes the chalice and, holding it slightly raised above the altar
says:

Blessed are you, Lord, God of all creation.

Through your goodness we have this wine to offer,
fruit of the vine and work of human hands.
It will become our spiritual drink.

R./ Blessed be God forever

The Bishop bows and says inaudibly:

Lord God, we ask you to receive us

and be pleased with the sacrifice we offer you
with humble and contrite hearts.

He now incenses the offerings and the altar. Afterwards, the deacon or a minister
incenses the Bishop, then the Concelebrants and the faithful.
Next the Bishop stands at the side of the altar and washes his hands saying
inaudibly:

Lord, wash away my iniquity;

cleanse me from my sin.

Bishop:

Pray, brethren that our sacrifice may be

acceptable to God, the Almighty Father.

R./ We lift them up to theLord.

V./ Let us give thanks to the Lord, ourGod.

R./ It is right and just.

It is truly right and just, our duty and our salvation,

always and everywhere to give you thanks,
Lord, holy Father, almighty and eternal God.

For you, eternal Shepherd, do not desert your flock,

but through
the blessed Apostles
watch over it and protect it always,
so that it may be governed
by those you have appointed shepherds
to lead it in the name of your Son.

And so, Angels and Archangels,

with Thrones and Dominions,
and with all the host and Powers of heaven
we sing the hymn of your glory,
as without end we acclaim:
SANCTUS

The Choir and the assembly sing the Sanctus.

HOLY (FRANCISCO)

HOLY, HOLY, HOLY

LORD GOD OF HOSTS.
HEAVEN AND EARTH ARE FULL OF YOUR GLORY,
FULL OF YOUR GLORY.

HOSANNA IN THE HIGHEST.

HOSANNA IN THE HIGHEST.

BLESSED IS HE WHO COMES IN THE NAME

OF THE LORD.

HOSANNA IN THE HIGHEST.

HOSANNA IN THE HIGHEST.
EUCHARISTIC PRAYER III

Bishop, with hands extended, says:

You are indeed Holy, O Lord,

and all you have created rightly gives you praise,
for through your Son our Lord Jesus Christ,
by the power and working of the Holy Spirit,
you give life to all things and make them holy,
and you never cease to gather a people to yourself,
so that from the rising of the sun to its setting
a pure sacrifice may be offered to your name.

He joins his hands and holding the mextended over the offerings, says:
Celebrant with concelebrants

Therefore, O Lord, we humbly implore you:

by the same Spirit graciously make holy
these gifts we have brought to you for consecration,

He joins his hands

and makes the Sign of the Cross once over the bread and chalice together, saying

that they may become the Body and Blood

of your Son, our Lord Jesus Christ,

He joins his hands.

at whose command we celebrate these mysteries.

In the formulas that follow, the words of the Lord should be pronounced clearly
and distinctly, as the nature of these words requires.

For on the night he was betrayed,

He takes the bread and, holding it slightly raised above the alter, continues:

he himself took bread,

and, giving you thanks, he said the blessing
broke the bread and gave it to his disciples, saying:
He bows slightly.

TAKE THIS, ALL OF YOU, AND EAT OF IT:

FOR THIS IS MY BODY,
WHICH WILL BE GIVEN UP FOR YOU.

He shows the consecrated host to the people, places it again on the paten, and
genuflects in adoration.

After this, he continues:

In a similar way, when the supper was ended.
He takes the chalice and, holding it slightly raised above the altar, continues:
he took the chalice,
and giving you thanks, he said the blessing
and give the chalice to his disciples, saying:

He bows slightly.
TAKE THIS, ALL OF YOU, AND DRINK FROM IT,
FOR THIS IS THE CHALICE OF MY BLOOD,
THE BLOOD OF THE NEW AND ETERNAL COVENANT,
WHICH WIL BE POURED OUT FOR YOU AND FOR
MANY FOR THE FORGIVENESS OF SINS.

DO THIS IN MEMORY OF ME.

He shows the chalice to the people, places it on the corporal, and genuflects in
adoration.

Bishop:

The mystery of faith.

The assembly led by the choir sings the acclamation:

Then the bishop, with hands extended, says:

Therefore, O Lord,as we celebrate the memorial

of the saving Passion of your Son,
his wondrous Resurrection
and Ascension into heaven,
and as we look forward to his second coming,
we offer you in thanksgiving
this holy and living sacrifice.

Look, we pray, upon the oblation of your Church

and, recognizing the sacrificial Victimby whose death
you willed to reconcile us to yourself,
grant that we,who are nourished
by the Body and Blood of your Son
and filled with his Holy Spirit,
may become one body, one spirit in Christ.

One of the Concelebrants:

May he make of us
an eternal offering to you,
so that we may obtain an inheritance with your elect,
especially with the most Blessed Virgin Mary, Mother of God,
with blessed Joseph, her Spouse,
with your blessed Apostles and glorious Martyrs
with Saint Bartholomew
and with all the Saints,
on whose constant intercession in your presence
we rely for unfailing help.
One of the Concelebrants:

May this Sacrifice of our reconciliation, we pray, O Lord,

advance the peace and salvation of all the world.

Be pleased to confirm in faith and charity

Your pilgrim Church on earth,
with your servant Francis our Pope and Roberto our Bishop,
the order of Bishops, all the clergy,
and the entire people you have gained for your own.

One of the Concelebrants:

To our departed brothers and sisters

and all who were pleasing to you
at their passing from this life,
give kind admittance to your kingdom.
There we hope to enjoy forever the fullness of your glor
He joins his hands.

through Christ our Lord,

through whom you bestow on the world all that is good.

The Bishop takes the paten with the host and the deacon takes the chalice, lifting
them up, and together with the Concelebrants say:

THROUGH HIM, AND WITH HIM, AND IN HI,

O GOD, ALMIGHTY FATHER,
IN THE UNITY OF THE HOLY SPIRIT,
ALL GLORY AND HONOR IS YOURS,
FOR EVER AND EVER.
The assembly led by the choir sings the Great Amen.
COMMUNION RITE

THE LORD’S PRAYER

Bishop:

At the savior’s command

and formed by divine teaching,
we dare to say:

The assembly led by the choir sings the Lord’s Prayer.

Our Father, who art in heaven,

hallowed be thy name;
thy kingdom come;
thy will be done
on earth as it is in heaven.
Give us this day our daily bread,
and forgive those who trespass against us;
and lead us not into temptation,
but deliver us from evil.

Bishop:

Deliver us, Lord, we pray, from every evil,

Graciously grant peace in our days,
that, by the help of your mercy,
we may be always free from sin
and safe from all distress,
as we await the blessed hope
and the coming of our Savior, Jesus Christ.

R./ For the Kingdom,

the power and the glory are yours,
now and forever.
SIGN OF PEACE

Lord Jesus Christ, You said to Your Apostles:

Peace I leave you peace, my peace I give you,
look not on our sins, but on the faith of Your Church,
and graciously grant her peace and unity
in accordance with your will.
Who live and reign for ever and ever.

All: Amen.

Bishop:

The peace of the Lord be with you always

All: And with your spirit.

Deacon:

Let us offer each other the sign of peace.

BREAKING OF THE BREAD AND AGNUS DEI

Then he takes the host, breaks it over the paten, and places a small piece in the
chalice, saying quietly:

May this mingling of the body and blood

of our Lord Jesus Christ
bring eternal life to us who receive it.

Meanwhile the following is sung or said:

Lamb of God, you take away the sins of the world, have
mercy on us.
Lamb of God, you take away the sins of the world, have
mercy on us.
Lamb of God, you take away the sins of the world, grant
us peace.
Then the Bishop, with hands joined, says quietly:

Lord Jesus Christ, Son of the living God,

who, by the will of the Father
and the work of the Holy Spirit,
through your Death gave life to the world,
free me by this, your most holy Body and Blood,
from all my sins and from every evil;
keep me always faithful to your commandments,
and never let me be parted from you.

COMMUNION

The Bishop genuflects. Takes the host and, holding it slightly raised above the
paten or above the chalice, while facing the people, says aloud:

Behold the Lamb of God,

behold him who takes away the sins of the world.
Blessed are those called to the supper of the Lamb.

R./ Lord, I am not worthy

That you should enter under my roof,
But only say the word
And my soul shall be healed.

He says inaudibly:

May the body of Christ keep me safe for eternal.

He reverently consumes the body of Christ. Then takes the chalice and says
inaudibly;

May the blood of Christ keep me safe for eternal.

He reverently drinks the blood of Christ.

After this, he takes the paten or other vessel and goes to the communicants. He
takes a host for each one, raises it a little, and shows it, saying:

The Body of Christ.

R./ Amen

While the faithful receive Holy Communion, Eucharistic Hymns are sung.

GOD SPEAKS, AND MY STEPS MOVE SLOWLY TOWARD THE EDGE;

THE EDGE OF MY CONTROL, AND MY HEART POUNDS OUT THE
QUESTIONS,
“CAN GOD? CAN I?”

CHORUS:
LORD, I BELIEVE, HELP THOU MY UNBELIEF.
LORD, I HAVE FAITH, HELP THOU MY LACK OF FAITH.
LORD, I WOULD WALK WITH YOU,
HELP ME TAKE THIS STEP.

GOD’S SPEAKS, AND MY THOUGHTS BEGIN TO WEIGH THE RISK;

THE RISK OF LETTING GO, AND MY MIND BEGINS TO WONDER,
“CAN GOD? CAN I?” (CHORUS)

GOD SPEAKS, AND MY LOVE COMPELS A FEEBLE “YES:”

A “YES” THAT GOD CAN BLESS, AND MY SOUL POURS OUT WITH SINGING,
“GOD CAN! GOD CAN!” (CHORUS)

HE WILL LIFT YOU UP

HE WILL LIFT YOU UP IN THE DARKEST NIGHT

WHEN YOU HAVE NO SONG TO SING;
HE WILL LIFT YOU UP AND WILL GIVE YOU REST
IN THE SHELTER OF HIS WING.

AND HE WILL COMMAND HIS ANGELS

TO GUARD YOU IN ALL YOUR WAYS,
WHEN YOU CALL UPON HIS NAME.
HIS PRECIOUS HOLY NAME,
HE WILL GIVE YOU PEACE,
AND HE WILL LIFT YOU UP.

LORD LIFT ME UP AND LET ME STAND,

BY FAITH, ON HEAVEN'S TABLE LAND,
A HIGHER PLANE THAT I HAVE FOUND;
LORD, PLANT MY FEET ON HIGHER GROUND.
POST-COMMUNION PRAYER

All stand.

Let us pray.

Pause for silent prayer.

As we celebrate the feast day

of the blessed Apostle Bartholomew,
we have received the pledge of eternal salvation, O Lord,
and we pray that it may be of help to us,
both now and for the life to come.
Through Christ our Lord.

All: Amen.

Commentator: Please be seated
