b. What are the factors of the constant term?

Integral Zero Theorem

If x-c is a factor of a polynomial, then c is a factor of the
constant of the polynomial.

{ Factors of 10 are 1, -1, 2, -2, 5, -5, 10 and -10 } These are

the possible zeros of the polynomial.
c. How to determine the roots?
You may use synthetic division or apply the reduction method.
(Teacher will illustrate this method)
E. Discussing new concepts Example: Determine the integral zeros of f(x) = x3 + 3x2 - 2x - 6
and practicing new skills and write f(x) as the product of linear factors.
#2 Solution:
Possible zeros: ±1 , ± 2, ± 3, ± 6

x2 – 2 = 0
x2 = 2
x = ±√2
The factors are : (x + 3)(x + √2)(x - √2)
The roots are : { -3, ±√2 }
F. Developing mastery One of the roots of the polynomial equation is given, find the other
roots
1. P(x) = x4 - 3x3 + 2 ; x =1
2. P(x) = x4 - x3- 7x2 + 13x - 6 ; x =1
P(x) = x5- 5x4 – 3x3 + 15x2 - 4x + 20 ; x = 2
G. Finding practical Determine the real root(s) of each equation.
applications of concepts 1. 2x4 - 7x3+ 13x2 + 53x + 21
and skills in daily living. 2. (x – 3)2(x3 + 1)= 0
H. Making generalization Integral Zero Theorem
and abstractions about If x-c is a factor of a polynomial, then c is a factor of the
the lesson. constant of the polynomial.

I. Evaluating Learning Find all the roots.

1. P(x)=x4−7x3+17x2−17x+6
