Humans are fundamental units of any type of organization. To organize these units, it is up to
Human resource department of firm to employ human according its needs while giving new
employees specific training. Strategically speaking, productivity and competitiveness of firm
is hinged upon on efficiency of working of HRM. Furthermore, this very department provides
lifeline to organization to achieve its short term and long term goals while ensuring that
appropriate employees are working who has up-to-date information of their jobs.
It is worthwhile to note that human resource department does not work independently, it may
be restricted in some ways by Labour Unions who protects the interests of employees by
presenting their demands through collective bargaining power either through organizing
protests or collective shutdowns. Government regularise the behaviour of HRM to
standardise the labour practices in the country.
HR planning refers managerial process arranging right people for right job at right time who
could work effectively and efficiently. It also ensures that there would not uninvited talent
shortages and surpluses. In the first step, current assessment is conducted to create human
resource deposit and job analysis is standardized for particular jobs which helps in
conducting interviews, observation and evaluation of employees.
Recruitment is method of employing by identifying the area of potential and suitable
employees at campus recruitment, job fairs and newspapers. On the other side, decruitment is
tool of cutting the surplus of employees in organization. Nowadays, recruitments are done
through online interviews and application which is easy for both parties. Selection process
involves evaluating suitable candidates which will perform more efficiently in organization.
Ultimate results of selection might prove fruitful when right and competitive employee is
hired and it may be fatal when poor performing pass out of selection process. Screening tests
of candidates might intelligence tests, practical test of job, interview and physical evaluation.
Job interview can be very formal or informal depending type of job application whoever HR
is more interested in skills of applicants and how they could prove more productive for firm.
After hiring of employees, orientation of new employees is given by someone in order to
familiarise new works on norms and functioning of firm. They might be overall organization
orientation where new employees are introduced to all working methodology of organisation
work-unit orientation which involves only making new employees aware of field of
operation.
