Supply Structural Steel
General Description
 Pipeline facilities requiring process piping solutions, pumps, compressors, etc. often
need structural steel configurations to serve as elevated platforms, frames, pillars, etc.
to support them and house them during their operation.
 Structural steel frame buildings are often required along with external cladding and
roofing to protect operational equipment and personnel from the elements in harsh
climates.
 Enbridge often contracts for process piping and structural steel solutions together in
one package with one supplier.

Service – Prime Contract Installing Station Facilities

General Description
 General contractors are usually contracted by Enbridge to install injection stations,
pump stations, valve stations and delivery stations along a major pipeline system.
 General contractors are responsible for assembling the station components according
to precisely engineered drawings with some components fabricated in a factory and
assembled on site and others fabricated on site.
 These contracts usually call for testing of components prior to assembly and after
assembly, prior to commissioning.
 Installing facilities will usually involve subcontracting out welding, electrical,
mechanical and structural activities to subcontractors with specialized skills and
procedures.

Equipment may include: Personnel may include: Minimum Certification

 Assembly equipment, portable power  Mostly skilled tradespersons and  Satisfactory ISNetworld rating
equipment, inspection equipment, etc. specialists trained in industrial HSE  Satisfactory WCB coverage
 Engineers, planners and schedulers  Satisfactory insurance

When is this Service Required? During pre-construction and construction phases.

Service – Prime Contract Installing Electrical/Electrical Inspection
General Description
 Major pipeline projects involve the installation of electrical systems with which to
power pumps, actuators, controls and control rooms at pump stations and remote
electrical systems (some solar systems) to power monitoring and security equipment.
 Larger projects will require electrical systems engineering as well as the design and
installation of power block and transformer systems.
 Smaller projects may only require journeymen electricians.
 Enbridge usually contracts this work out through general contractors who in turn sub it
out to specialized subcontractors.
 Contractors may also be required to provide inspection services.

Service – Prime Contract Installing Mechanical/Mechanical Inspection

General Description
 Major pipeline and pump station construction projects often involve the installation of
mechanical systems of varying size and complexity.
 Systems associated with pumps, valves, tanks, blending equipment, etc.
 Mechanical systems may also involve mechanical engineering and custom designed
pieces to be installed made of exotic metals.
 Enbridge usually contracts this work out through general contractors who in turn sub it
out to specialized subcontractors.

Supply Installing Flanges & Fittings
General Description
 Usually pipes come in tubular form and have to be either welded together or bolted
together with the use of welded on flanges.
 Sometimes pipe configurations require tight bends or need to split in two directions
requiring elbow or T-joints. These joints or “fittings” can be welded or bolted to pipe
in either a manufacturing facility or on site.
 They can be manufactured in a plant and then either welded on or bolted onto piping
systems on site.
 Joints have to be hydro tested to make sure the welds and seals are adequate for the
job intended.
