ABSTRACT

In our everyday lives, there’s a lot of things that we cannot avoided especially in our
home. There’s a lot of household chores including washing the dishes, doing the
laundry and so on, and because of this task, the dust particles that are accumulated
in household may cause eye irritation, skin diseases and respiratory problems. The
chore of cleaning households acts as a pain with the busy and lazy masses. So, as a
researcher, we thought a way to reduce the cause problems by creating a cleaning
device driven by arduino uno with the use of DC motors. Our study mainly focuses
on creating an Automatic Controlled Arduino Robot Vacuum (ACARV) and to explore
its functionality. The researchers used 2 wheels and Arduino Uno to create the
device. The researchers coded the arduino uno using ARDUINO 1.8.5 version to
control the motor driver which in turn will manipulate the DC motors. The Censor
(ultrasonic) programming in the computer to serve as an eye of the device and to
determine if the device hit the wall. The device was tested in a 60 x 60 cm tilesurface
and it tested in 3 trials to determine the amount of time consumed by the device in
cleaning the said area.
ACKNOWLEDGEMENT

This investigatory project will not be accomplished without the assistance of the
teachers and relatives that helped the researchers go through all the problems that
the study has encountered before achieving the results.

First of all, the researchers would like to thank Ms. Catherine Gonzales for the
encouragement to continue the investigatory project even though they rejected 4
times and had been a lot of hindrances and difficulties.

The researchers would also like to give their gratitude to the relatives for their
support and to their churchmate especially Mr. Darwin Eleydo who provided some
available materials and for the assistance during the construction of the device,
especially in programming the device.

Last but not the least, the Almighty God for giving the researchers strength,
courage and wisdom even though they get misunderstanding. Without God this
study would be possible to overcome.

INTRODUCTION

Robotics cleaner is a kind of technology which helps to facilitate the work like
dust. Robotics also helpful to the students because it can help to enhance their skills,
for better understanding and maybe it can help them to have a better future. Robots
are everywhere in today’s world. There has been growing controversy over how far
robotics should be integrated into society.Robots work in factories to create cars and
other products, they do jobs too dangerous for humans, they perform surgeries, they
participate in human war, and they learn and think just as a human does.
BACKGROUND OF THE STUDY

The cleaning device called AUTOMATIC CONTROLLED ARDUINO ROBOT

VACUUM is a device that helps to least exerted efforts especially to the users and
the persons with disabilities and the busy people. So, as a researcher we think a way
to reduce the pain with the busy and lazy masses. And that is by creating a robotics
vacuum cleaner through the use of recycled materials and less money.
STATEMENT OF THE PROBLEM

A) How much time will take for the device to clean the given area?

B) What is the capacity of the device in cleaning the surface area?

C) How many days does ACARS accumulate dust?

HYPOTHESIS

The device is not efficient in cleaning the 60 X 60cm tile surface because of
lack of time given.
SIGNIFICANCE OF THE STUDY

The AUTOMATIC CONTROLLED ARDUINO ROBOT VACUUM (ACARV) will

be most significant in the household for it will be able to clean the floor’s surface with
a least exerted effort from the user compared to cleaning it manually. The said
device could benefit households with the elderly and persons with disabilities as its
member or it could be a foundation for the future development of modern household
cleaning materials.

Department of Science and Technology (DOST)

It will give us new knowledge to the Science and Technology.

Student Researchers

This Study can give the students additional knowledge to their fellow researchers or
fellow students, when it comes in innovation on how to make Automatic Robot
Vacuum.
SCOPE AND LIMITATIONS

ACAVS can only sweep an area about 24 inches. The functionality of the device
depends on its 3-power source which is the 2 pcs. Of 9V battery. The average
surface area cleaned by the device is measured after the delayed 10 seconds.

CONCEPTUAL FRAMEWORK
REVIEW OF RELATED LITERATURE AND STUDIES

The following is an analysis on different sources and the information

they provide on topics within the field of robotics. The information will be discussed in
two groups, the automation of industries and the advances of robotics. Automation of
Industries One of the industries composed highly of robots is the automotive
industry. The production of cars uses many robots with different jobs and abilities.
Automation has grown so big in the automotive production factories because robots
can lift heavy parts and put cars together all day and night without getting tired or
going on strike for higher pay. Ehrenman (2005) reports on a certain kind of robot
along the car assembly line in his article “Eyes on the Line”. It is a vision enabled
robot that can find the part it is attaching to the car even if it is out of place. Robots
without vision will make mistakes if the part they are responsible for is not in the
exact same place every time. This can be costly for factories, so the vision enabled
robot eliminates this possibility. The article is very useful for informing the reader
about robots in the car industry however it does not provide any information on the
ethics of robotics to argue the controversy mentioned earlier. However, “Robots vs.
the Underclass.” is an article written by John Judis (2015) that does voice on this
controversy. The article speaks of the misconception that industrial automation is
decreasing the number of middle class jobs. The lower-class jobs are actually the
ones disappearing. This source is very useful when arguing over robotics. It brings to
light the perspective of many against the expansion and advancements of robotics.
Advances of Robotics Technology, some forms more than others, has been
improving rapidly in recent years. Robots have been at the forefront of the
progression. This chapter explain about the function of the main component that
being uses to build the vacuum cleaner robot .This project also exposed on research
to build the cleaner system that can vacuum the carpet and can clean the floor. The
unwanted particle that lay on the floor will be brushed away the suck through a hole
then filtered. Therefore, this method is very familiar for most of engineering student
in this country where I believe it will bring a lot of challenge and creativity and I like to
modify something that can become useful. This project is divided by two part which
is vacuuming and cleaning system and controlling the movement of robot. The
literature review can give some rough ideas to help on developing the project
successfully and be able to achieve the objectives that have been outlined. Before
any development can take place, a research must be carried out on all the possible
components that will be used in the autonomous robot. The internet is the place
where detailed explanations on a few reference and terminologies of similar projects
previously created by others can be found and there is no other place to easily get
the data sheets of the components used. Besides of the internet resources, the
thesis room in FKE also provides some thesis reference from the previous final year
project student. Other than that, the autonomous robot competitions themselves are
also another good source of information. The information is very useful and helpful to
this project, especially only the issues such as microcontroller, mobile platform
design, circuit layout and sensor placement. Below are some of the important
theories that related to this project, such as IR reflection law that lead to line
detection of the robot, LCD functions, basic idea of line following and maze solving
theory, PMW, H-bridge used in motor driver and so forth. These theories should be
fully understood before starting the project.
DEFINITION OF TERMS

Robot a machine resembling a human being and able to replicate certain human
movements and functions automatically.

Vacuum a space entirely devoid of matter.

Arduino is an open-source electronics platform based on easy-to-use hardware and

software.

Acrylic glass is a transparent plastic that have gained widespread use because it's
ability replace the glass.

Censor an official who examines material that is about to be released, such as

books, movies, news, and art, and suppresses any parts that are considered
obscene, politically unacceptable, or a threat to security.

Automatic a device or process working by itself with little or no direct human control.

RESULTS AND DISCUSSION

CONCLUSION

The progression of robotics has potential to be a great thing and also a

terrible thing. Automation in industry is making production more efficient and
cheaper, but it is causing people to lose their jobs. Robotics has become a
controversy because people have different opinions on if the advantages
outweigh the disadvantages. Only a couple of the sources discussed above
truly speak the authors voice on this ethical issue; however, the others
provide useful information on understanding how far robotics has come and
where
