Dear Friend,

Welcome to the Walnut! We owe our success to the continued

support of loyal theatregoers like you. Thank you for making the
Walnut not only the most popular theatre in Philadelphia, but also
the most subscribed theatre company in the world!

I’m thrilled to have you as our guest for the wedding of the year
in High Society! Tonight you’ll see the Philadelphia premiere of
a sparkling, feel-good musical — a wonderful way to open our
season. Filled with some of Cole Porter’s greatest songs, this
show celebrates the romance of a glamorous era. I hope that you
too will fall in love with this dazzling musical comedy.

This holiday season I’m delighted to share with you another

Philadelphia premiere, the musical hit A Christmas Story, based
on the popular classic film. Next we’ll have the Pulitzer Prize-
winning Broadway and Hollywood comedy, Harvey, followed
by our swashbuckling production of Peter and the Starcatcher,
the grown-up’s prequel to Peter Pan. We’ll end our season with Photo: Mark Garvin
the divine musical smash Sister Act, based on the film starring
Whoopi Goldberg.

I’m excited to announce that we have extended our Independence Studio on 3 season! We’ve added
a week of performances to each production to give more of Philadelphia the opportunity to enjoy
our intimate theatre. I hope you’ll join us for a daring tale of a high seas adventure, Shipwrecked!;
Becoming Dr. Ruth; Eugene O’Neill’s A Moon for the Misbegotten; the Tony Award-winning Best
Play, Red; and the musical celebration, Always…Patsy Cline!

As part of our WST for Kids series, adults can read books with their children and then see the
stories come to life on our stage. This year we’re excited to produce Shrek The Musical Jr., Charles
Dickens’ A Christmas Carol, Zombie In Love, Freckleface Strawberry The Musical and Miss Nelson
Has A Field Day. I hope to see you there with your littlest friends.

For tonight, let’s raise a glass to Cole Porter’s High Society!

Sincerely,

Bernard Havard, Producing Artistic Director

PROUD MEDIA PARTNERS

FOR THE 2015–16 SEASON
NBC10 is proud to support the work and mission of Walnut Street Theatre, the
oldest theater in America. For more than 200 years, Walnut Street Theatre has
been bringing families together to celebrate arts and culture in Philadelphia, all
while remaining committed to local artists, talent and training. From your proud
partners at NBC10, “Bravo!”
Metro, Philadelphia’s #1 newspaper, is proud to partner with Walnut Street
Theatre, now in its 207th season, in supporting Philadelphia’s artists and
promoting art education in the local communities. Pick up Metro every Thursday
for our Going Out section or read it online at metro.us.

The mission of the Walnut Street Theatre Company is to sustain the tradition of
professional theatre and contribute to its future viability and vitality. It does so through
the production and presentation of professional theatre; the encouragement, training and
development of artists; the development of diverse audiences; and the preservation and
chronicling of its theatre building, a National Historic Landmark.

Walnut Street Theatre is a member of the Greater Philadelphia Cultural Alliance, Citizens
for the Arts in Pennsylvania, the National Alliance for Musical Theatre, the League of
Historic American Theatres and the Greater Philadelphia Chamber of Commerce.

Walnut Street Theatre receives support through a grant from the Pennsylvania Council
on the Arts, a state agency funded by the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania.

Walnut Street Theatre acknowledges with appreciation Bryce’s Catering Company

(Wynnewood, PA) for their elegant catering of theatre events.

Accessibility Equipment, Training and Marketing provided by Independence Starts

Here, the statewide cultural accessibility program of VSA PA/Amaryllis Theatre Co.,
jointly led in different regions in PA by cultural partners in that region. In Greater
Philadelphia, Independence Starts Here is jointly led by Art-Reach, Inc.

Support for Walnut Street Theatre’s general operations provided in part by the
Philadelphia Cultural Fund.
