Seismic Test Facility at EVRC

Earthquake Engineering Laboratory of this centre is equipped with a triaxial shaker

system with six degrees of freedom, which is capable of performing a diverse range of
seismic qualification procedures that are used to subject the equipment, sub-
assemblies and components to dynamic forces. These tests are intended to examine
the specimen for seismic qualification requirements.

Tri axial shaker system

The state of the art Triaxial shaker system is installed in a RCC structure of size 35 m x 20 m x 16m. The vibration
test platform / shake table is a welded steel box structure measuring 3m x 3m x 0.5m, designed for testing specimen
weighing up to 10 Ton. Shake table has tapped holes for mounting test specimen. Four hydraulic actuators move
the shake table in both horizontal axes while four pre-load actuators provide the dynamic forces required for its
vertical motion. With this arrangement it is possible to produce simultaneous and independent motions with six
degrees of freedom. The hydraulic system comprises of 4 numbers of software controlled pump/motor sets, each of
250 HP. A 11 kV substation with 2.5 MVA transformer is feeding exclusively for this test centre.

This system is used for the design of components, equipment and for experimental verification of their safe
functional capability under vibration and shock loads in accordance with national & international standards.

This facility is useful in examining the behavior of components/ instruments when they are subjected
simultaneously to change in temperature, humidity and vibration.

This facility can be interfaced with Dynamic Shaker System to carryout combined environmental testing.
