Firearms Application Registration System

The firearms application is now electronic. Please follow the below

instructions for the FARS Application Procedures.

FARS Application Procedures for Applicants:

STEP 1: Visit the website. You MUST enter the site address as follows:

www.njportal.com/NJSP/fars

STEP 2: When you log on, you must enter the Teaneck Police Department’s
ORI # NJ0026000
(You WILL NOT be able to complete the FARS online application WITHOUT THE PROPER ORI#)

STEP 3: Complete the online application. You may complete the application using
a smartphone, mobile device, laptop, or desktop computer. Please print your
application, confirmation and IdentGO NJ Universal Fingerprint Form at the time
of submission.

When deciding how many permits you would like to get, remember:
A. One permit is required for each handgun you wish to purchase (each permit is $2.00)
B. You can purchase 1 handgun in a 30 day period
C. Permits are good for up to 180 days (with a renewal after 90 days)
D. If you decide you want another handgun permit and you didn’t get more than one initially, you
will need to apply again.
E. If you are requesting an initial Firearms ID Card (the card is $5.00), no cost for a duplicate card.

When completing the application, you must use your legal full name.

----You will need the email addresses of 2 reputable references.

STEP 4: You MUST appear at the Teaneck Police Department and meet with an
Identification Officer to PAY for your INITIAL Firearms Purchaser Identification
Card and/or Handgun Purchase Permits. Your application WILL NOT be
processed until you have PAID for the FID Card and/or Handgun Permits. Non-
refundable payment is required to be made prior to the completion of the
background as per NJAC 13:54-14

----Please provide proof of employment, (proof may be a recent paystub or W-2)

----Please provide proof of citizenship, (Copy of passport or Birth Certificate and

or Naturalization papers)

----Please provide proof of residency, (Valid NJ License preferred)

The ID Bureau hours are 8:00 am to 4:00 pm Monday through

Friday, with walk-in office hours every Tuesday, Wednesday and
Thursday from 11:00 am to 1:00 pm, where no appointment is
needed. Otherwise, please call (201)837-2573 with any questions or
to schedule an appointment to complete the process.

STEP 5: You will be receiving automated email updates throughout this new
process.

---- Please advise your references that the FARS system will email them the
reference questions to be answered. Your references can complete the questions
using a smartphone, mobile device, laptop, or desktop computer. Please advise
them to complete the questions immediately to progress your background
investigation.

---- The on-line application is applicant driven. Please ensure that you have
entered the best phone numbers for yourself and references, as well as the best
email addresses for yourself and your references.

----Once your application is complete, a Teaneck Police Identification Officer will

contact you to retrieve your FID Card and/or handgun purchase permit documents.
