A Listening Moment: Phase One

Name: Student A, B, C, D, E ,F Date: Term Three , Week 2 , 2/08/2019

OBSERVATION: During our afternoon group session we had a listening moment to practice our
listening skills. First we talked about how to be good listeners, that we keep our lips closed and
try our best to sit in our 5 L’s so that we could try our best. To demonstrate how good we were
at listening we shut our eyes and were quiet for 30 seconds listening to all the sounds that we
could hear around us. After we spent that time listening we talked about all the different sounds
that we had had heard whether they were quiet or loud, whether we were able to recreate the
sounds.
ANAYLSIS: The children beginning to develop their ability to practice their general sound dis-
crimination of environmental sounds, laying the foundational skills for reading and writing.
Through the activity we are building our listening stamina as well as exploring the different
sounds in the students general environment.
FOUNDATIONS FOR SUCCESS:
BEING AN ACTIVE PARTICIPANT: Listening and Negotiating: Become aware of the reciprocal rights
and responsibilities necessary for active community participation

BEING A LEARNER: Involvement in learning: Build dispositions for learning such as curiosity, co-
operation, confidence, creativity, commitment, enthusiasm, persistence, imagination and reflex-
ivity.
BEING A COMMUNICATOR: Oral Language: Interact verbally and non-verbally with others for a range
of purposes.

FUTURE PLANNING: To further extend and develop the children's listening skills and aware-
ness in the environmental sound discrimination, we will continue to explore through teacher
lead sound discrimination activities to encourage the children's listening skills. We will then fur-
ther expand the children's knowledge through similar activities such as listening walks, sound
stories and the creation and responding to music.
