Abstract
The study aims to determine the preferred smartphone brand and smartphone of size
from Junior High School students of Grace Baptist Church and School of Baguio City. The study
focused to the Junior High School students, we use the Quantitative survey method data. We
handed out a two item questionnaire and we are able to find the answer, Samsung was the most
preferred smartphone brand and 6.3 inches was the most preferred size of smartphone.

What is a Smartphone?
Smartphone according to the Merriam Webster dictionary is defined as a cellphone that
has internet and camera functions. Nowadays, almost everyone owns a smartphone because it is
fast, reliable, and most importantly cheap. It can serve in a different purpose since it can be
placed with applications, photos, videos, files, music and games. But just like anything else, the
individual should always be careful in the usage of a smartphone just like the famous quote from
Spider-Man “With Great Power comes with Great Responsibilities”. In this statement, it refers to
the smartphone that the individual is using. The phone has a great power because it helps us to do
easier tasks, such as messaging a person who is far from you, in our research, and you can also
play video games, play music, watch videos and can also capture some memories of you. Thus,
integrated computer and other features not originally associated with telephones, such as an
operating system, web browsing and ability to run software applications. It is also said that there
are differences with cellphones and smartphones. A cellphone is simply a telephone that does not
need a landline connection. It enables the user to make and receive phone calls. Some cellphones
also offer text messaging. While a smartphone has more advanced features, including web
browsing, software applications and a mobile operating system. In turn, a smartphone also offers
capabilities such as support for biometrics, video chatting, digital assistants and much more.
According to Emma Weston (2011), smartphones are the new breed of mobile phones
that have multiple functions similar to those you might expect from a regular computer.

“Smartphones and social media expand our Universe. We can connect with others or collect

examples are children. Why? Because instead of playing with other kids they prefer playing with
their phones and not spending much time in outdoor activities and especially with their family.
Mobile phone is one of the most rapidly growing new technologies in the world. This area of
interest was chosen because of the unregulated usage and over dependent attitude on these
devices especially to secondary school students. As time goes by, different types of smartphones
have been produced by the phone manufacturers. Each type contains different and specific
functions. We include the iPhone, Asus, OPPO, Huawei and Samsung. The smartphone brand
iPhone was first founded in 2007, the creator of this smartphone brand is Steve Jobs. The
features of iPhone is with a Face ID, your face is your password, It can keep your boarding
passes in your Wallet, at the ready, it can quickly reply with a thumbs up, make messages more
fun with stickers, text, and filters, take a video recording of your screen, to type it, just say it/
voice typing, it can create a Memoji of yourself, it can also use AirDrop to share photos even
without a network and it can also survive a spill. That is top features of iPhone. The smartphone
brand Asus was first founded in 2012 by Ted Hsu, M.T. Liao, Wayne Tsiah, T.H. Tung. The Asus
company started in April 1989. The researcher used the latest phone of Asus for us to find its
features. The features of Asus is, it has a fingerprint sensor position which is rear, light sensor,
proximity sensor, Accelerometer, Compass, Gyroscope, it has a fingerprint sensor, it’s also quick
charging, it also has a dual SIM, GSM+GSM, loudspeaker, 4000 mAh of battery and 4G:
Available, 3G: Available, 2G: Available too. That is all top features of this phone. The
smartphone brand OPPO was first founded in 2004 by Muhammad Ibrahim. The researcher used
the latest phone in this smartphone which is the OPPO F11 Pro, it’s features is, it has a
fingerprint sensor, light sensor, Proximity sensor, Accelerometer, Gyroscope, quick charging,
dual SIM, dual VOLTE, loudspeaker, 4000 mAh of battery and 4G to 2G is available to it. That
is the top features of the phone. The company of Huawei started in September 15, 1987, in
Shenzhen, China. The researcher used the latest phone of this brand which is the Huawei P20
Pro, it’s top features are this, fingerprint sensor front position, light sensor, Proximity sensor,
Accelerometer, Compass, Gyroscope, quick charging, dual SIM, dual VOLTE, loudspeaker, 4000
mAh battery and 4G to 2G is available. The company of Samsung was founded in March 1,
1938, by Lee Byung-Chull. The researcher used the latest brand of phone which is Samsung
Galaxy S9, it’s features is, Iris scanner, fingerprint sensor rear position, light sensor, Proximity
sensor, rgbw sensor, Accelerometer, Barometer, Compass, Gyroscope, dual SIM, dual VOLTE,

Methodology
The Methodology provides detailed information as regards the procedures that you will
employ in conducting your study. This chapter is composed of five subchapters, namely

smartphone. Using the Qualitative method we were able to identify the preferred brand and also
the preferred size of smartphone. In the section/ classroom of Grade-7 Judah, the preferred brand
are this, Asus, Huawei, Oppo, Samsung, iPhone. Two students preferred the Asus brand, one
student preferred the Huawei brand, one student preferred the Oppo brand, three students
preferred the Samsung brand and five students preferred the iPhone brand. The most preferred in
Grade-7 Judah is iPhone. Next we go to the preferred size of smartphone, one student preferred a
smartphone size of 5.8 inches, two students preferred a smartphone size of 5.9 inches, four
students preferred a smartphone size of 6.1 inches, three students preferred a smartphone size of
6.3 inches and two students preferred a smartphone size of 6.5 inches. As we can see the most
preferred size of smartphone is 6.1 inches. Next we surveyed the section/classroom of Grade-8
Goshen, the preferred brand are this Asus, Huawei, Oppo, Samsung and iPhone. Two students
preferred the Asus brand, two students preferred the Huawei brand, three students preferred the
Oppo brand, nine students preferred the Samsung brand and no students preferred the iPhone
brand. The most preferred smartphone brand is Samsung. Next we go to the preferred size of
smartphone, One student preferred a smartphone size of 5.7 inches, Two students preferred a
smartphone size of 5.8 inches, One student preferred a smartphone size of 5.9 inches, Three
students preferred a smartphone size of 6.0 inches, Three students preferred a smartphone size of
6.1 inches, Five students preferred a smartphone size of 6.3 and one student preferred a
smartphone size of 6.5. The most preferred size of a smartphone is 6.3 inches. Next we surveyed
the section/classroom of Grade-9 Bethany, the preferred brand are this Asus, Huawei, Oppo,
Samsung and iPhone. Two students preferred the Asus brand, none of the students preferred a
Huawei brand, one student preferred the Oppo brand, five students preferred the Samsung brand
and four students preferred the iPhone brand. The most preferred smartphone brand is Samsung.
Next we go to the sizes of the smartphone, one student preferred a smartphone size of 6.1 inches,
one student preferred a smartphone size of 6.3 inches and ten students preferred a smartphone
size of 6.5 inches. The most preferred size of a smartphone is 6.5 inches. The researcher was able
to find out that 17 out of 40 Junior High school students of Grace Baptist Academy preferred a
smartphone brand which is Samsung. And 13 out of 40 Junior High school students of Grace
involved was the Junior High school students. We have chosen to survey the first year high
school students because we have noticed that all of them are using a smartphone and spend most
of their time with it and sometimes use them in their reports, music, video and camera. 12 first
year high school students were involved in this study and research. The sampling technique that
personally. The researcher chose the place for the respondent to answer the following
questions in the favored place and will be able to gather and fix their own data.
We handed a questionnaire to all the Junior High school students. We have given them two
questions and they all answered all the questions and we have found out that all of them are truly
using a smartphone.
We used the Qualitative study, for we have used the unstructured questionnaire and we have
surveyed the students. For our data to be complete we used the textual analysis.

We have observed in our survey that Samsung is the most preferred smartphone brand and not
iPhone in terms of its users, followers and supporters because of the number of produced units from the
companies they came from and the majority of the Junior-High students like Samsung also because it’s
fun and exciting to use more than the iPhone especially when it comes to all kinds of games and content
they have in their phones, for example, racing games, presentation apps like PowerPoint and more. At
first we thought that the preferred smartphone the Junior-High students is an iPhone because of the
population of Junior-High students but now after we have conducted the survey we have observed that the
most preferred smartphone brand is Samsung because of the amount of users who like the brand for its
features, specs and prices. We also have learned that these are also the reasons why almost every Junior-
High student want is a Samsung. We also have learned from them the various specs, prices and features of
the other smartphones we have included in our survey. That also have stated their reasons in why they like
Samsung such as, good camera and good graphics which is why many Junior-High students prefer
Samsung over other brands such as OPPO, HUAWEI, iPhone, Asus and other brands.
After all the research we have done, we found out that all Junior High school students are
using a smartphone. The most preferred smartphone brand is Samsung. The most preferred
smartphone size is 6.3 inches. The students have said their reasons why which brand is the
best and almost all of these students said Samsung in terms of specs and features and also
pricing. The other smartphone brands also have good competition with Samsung also in
terms of specs and pricing which makes it a very good competition as well in terms of sales,
accessories costumer service and even warranties. This means Samsung has been number
one in the market especially with its costumers being the top priority. Samsung has and
always be the one of the best in the business of making smartphones even with other top
contenders in the industry and business. The Samsung brand is a very useful brand according
to the students because they have a very good quality through camera and also through their
performances.
