Introduction
The 187-8519 Caterpillar Wireless ET Link
Group provides a wireless connection between
a PC and the Caterpillar communication
adapters. The wireless electronic technician
(ET) link group consists of two wireless ET link
units, a service truck unit, and a machine unit.

Troubleshooting
1. If the 187-8519 Wireless ET Link Group will
not communicate with the ET software,
connect the communication adapter to the
computer running ET with a communication
cable.
NOTE: Communication Adapter I uses a
7X-1425 Cable and 171-4401 Communication
Adapter II uses a 160-0141 Cable.
2. If ET does not communicate with wire
cable, the wireless ET links are probably
OK. The problem most likely is the
communication adapter, the PC running the
ET, or the cables.
3. This is a list of potential problems:

• Communication adapter is not working.


Check the fuses.
• Communication Adapter II is being used
on equipment with multiple ECMs. Use
Communication Adapter I.
• Bad cable between ECM and
communication adapter.
• Bad cable between communication
adapter and computer.
• The equipment was not designed to use
Caterpillar communication adapters.
