[Hamlet enters]
HAMLET
HORATIO
[Horatio enters]
HAMLET
Horatio, or do i forget myself? I’m glad to see you, but, what are you doing here in wittenberg?
HORATIO
It’s been a long time since we met each other. So, I just come to see you, my lord.
HAMLET
You could send me letters if you want to come. What is exactly happening?
HORATIO
HAMLET
[smiling] don’t be ridiculous, for a long time we have been friends… never tell any lie… what really
brings you here?
HORATIO
[speaking nervously] The truth is my lord, i think i saw a spirit wandered around this tower on the other
night when i came in here.
HAMLET
HORATIO
A spirit my lord.
HAMLET
A spirit?
HORATIO
HAMLET
HORATIO
HAMLET
HORATIO
At midnight. It’s nearly time my lord, 5 more minutes until it strucks twelve.
HAMLET
[GHOST enters]
HORATIO
My lord, look!
HAMLET
[turning back]
SCENE II
[GHOST enters]
GHOST
Hamlet! Hamlet!
HAMLET
Who is there?! [startled and grab his sword]
GHOST
Hamlet…
HAMLET
GHOST
Listen to me, Hamlet. The hour has almost come when I have to return to the horrible flames of
purgatory.
HAMLET
GHOST
HAMLET
What?
GHOST
I’m the ghost of your father, I could tell you stories that could tell you stories that would slice through
your soul, freeze your blood. Listen! Listen! If you ever loved your poor dear father.
HAMLET
Oh God!
GHOST
Take revenge for his horrible murder, that crime against nature!
HAMLET
Murder?
GHOST
Everyone was told that a poisonous snake bit me when I was sleeping. But that’s a lie! You should know
the real snake that stung your father is now wearing his crown!
HAMLET
GHOST
[GHOST exits]
HAMLET
So uncle, there you are. Now it’s time to deal with the vow I made to my father. NOOOOO!
CLAUDIUS
[Claudius enters]
Hamlet!
Hamlet!
HAMLET
Nothing, sir.
CLAUDIUS
HAMLET
GERTRUDE
My dear Hamlet, stop wearing those black clothes and be friendly to the king. You can’t spend your
whole life with your eyes to the ground remembering your noble father. It happens all the time, what lives
must die eventually.
HAMLET
GERTRUDE
So, why does it seem so particular to you?
HAMLET
“seem,” mother? No, it is. I don’t know what you mean by “seem”. I’ve got more real grief inside me that
you could ever see on the surface. These clothes are just a hint of.
CLAUDIUS
Hamlet, you are so sweet and such a good son to mourn your father like this. But overdoing it is just
stubborn. It’s not manly. Since we know that everyone must die sooner or later, why should we take it to
heart? Please give up this useless mourning and start thinking of me as your new father.
HAMLET
GERTRUDE
HAMLET
[walking out]
GERTRUDE
Hamlet!
Hamlet!
[following Hamlet]
CLAUDIUS
My Queen!
[the king and queen in the scene holding a court and summoning a young man]
[Rosencrantz enters]
ROSENCRANTZ
CLAUDIUS
ROSENCRANTZ
GERTRUDE
I need you to watch over my son, he’s been in a bad mood lately.
ROSENCRANTZ
CLAUDIUS
Your gentle services will receive the thanks that only a king can give.
ROSENCRANTZ
OPHELIA
LAERTES
Ophelia, you know I have to leave. This isn’t the first time right? And we can still keep in touch by letter.
You won’t forget to write one?
OPHELIA
LAERTES
Because your head is full of ‘Hamlet’ now, so I doubt it. Anyway, you should remind yourself that his
love won’t last.
OPHELIA
LAERTES
He may love you now, but you have to be on your guard. Watch out, and don’t let yourself become a
target of his lust.
OPHELIA
[Polonia enters]
POLONIA
[Talking to Laertes] You are still here? Quick, you have to get your things prepared.
LAERTES
POLONIA
And don’t forget few rules of life, my daughter. Don’t say what you are thinking, and don’t act recklessly.
And above all, be true to yourself. Then you won’t be false to anybody else. Remember that, my
daughter.
LAERTES
Yes mother. [walk to Ophelia] and Ophelia, remember what I’ve told you.
[Laertes exits]
POLONIA
Ophelia.
OPHELIA
Yes mother?
POLONIA
OPHELIA
POLONIA
A good thing she did. I’ve heard Hamlet’s been spending a lot of time alone with you recently, and
you’ve made yourself quite available to him. What’s going on between you two? Tell me the truth.
OPHELIA
POLONIA
“Affection?” That’s nothing! You’re talking like some innocent girl who doesn’t understand the ways of
the world. Do you believe his “offers”, as you call them?
OPHELIA
POLONIA
Then I’ll tell you. Believe that you are foolish little baby for believing these “offers” are something real.
OPHELIA
Mother, he made the holiest vows to me.
POLONIA
These vows are just traps for stupid birds. I know when a man is on fire, he’ll swear anything. Don’t
mistake that for true love. From now on, spend a little less time with him and talk to him less. Don’t
waste your time with Hamlet. Do you understand?
OPHELIA
[nodding]
POLONIA
Do you understand?
OPHELIA
Yes, mother.
[Polonia exits]
SCENE IV
HAMLET
OPHELIA
Hello my lord
HAMLET
OPHELIA
HAMLET
OPHELIA
HAMLET
What is it dear?
OPHELIA
My sister and my mother warned me about your love lately. It bothers me, for I’ve been in love with you.
HAMLET
My fair Ophelia. You may wonder if the stars are fire. You may wonder if the sun moves across the sky.
You may wonder if the truth is a liar. But never wonder if I love.
OPHELIA
HAMLET
Good, my dear
OPHELIA
My lord, I don’t want to leave you, but I think I need to go. However, talking with you really ease me a
lot.
HAMLET
OPHELIA
[Ophelia exits]
[GHOST enters]
GHOST
Hahaha Hamlet!

SCENE V
[ROSENCRANTZ enters]
ROSENCRANTZ
HAMLET
[smiling and hug ROSENCRANTZ] my excellent good friend! How are you?
ROSENCRANTZ
HAMLET
But, from one friend to another. Tell me, why are you coming to Wittenberg?
ROSENCRANTZ
HORATIO
Who sent you ? Is it your own idea? Is it a completely free visit? Come, tell us the truth!
ROSENCRANTZ
HAMLET
ROSENCRANTZ
I was sent by the king and queen my lord.[nervously staring at his feet]
HAMLET
And in doing that, you don’t have to spy on me anymore[while drawing his dagger and give it to
HORATIO]
ROSENCRANTZ
HAMLET
Making sure you won’t delivering any message to them[ grab ROSENCRANTZ arms and make him
kneel] do it my friend, dispose this evil pawn.
ROSENCRANTZ
HORATIO
[stab ROSENCRANTZ chest]
SCENE VI
POLONIA
GERTRUDE
POLONIA
GERTRUDE
POLONIA
GERTRUDE
He’s been acting quite strange. He tends to talk by himself. His eyes show nothing as if his mind was
somewhere else. However, the next minute he rambles about things that can’t be understood by sane
mind.
POLONIA
GERTRUDE
POLONIA
I’m not quite sure, your highness. But to think about it, I think I know what’s make his weird behavior.
GERTRUDE
What is it?
POLONIA
Maybe it’s because the feeling he harbored toward my daughter, the beautiful Ophelia. My daughter has
told me about how Hamlet seemed to be interested in her. However, I forbid my daughter to return his
feeling. Since she was only a noble’s daughter while Hamlet is a prince, my queen.
GERTRUDE
Is that so?
POLONIA
Pardon me my queen. Maybe his unrequited feeling has driven him into madness.
GERTRUDE
I wonder if it is-
GERTRUDE
HAMLET
Mother! Mother!
GERTRUDE
HAMLET
GERTRUDE
HAMLET
GERTRUDE
HAMLET
My father’s spirit comes to me and seeks for revenge. I always had the feeling something fishy with uncle
and the ghost prove it that uncle the one who did it. [pause] Or do you already know this?
GERTRUDE
GERTRUDE
What are you going to do? You won’t kill me, will you? Help!
HAMLET
POLONIA
GERTRUDE
Oh my God, what have you done? [catching and getting polonia on her lap]
HAMLET
GERTRUDE
OPHELIA
GERTRUDE

Kill me! Just kill me like you did to my mom! Just kill me already!
GERTRUDE
LAERTES
Hamlet? Hamlet?
OPHELIA
[singing]
Go to thy death-bed:
LAERTES
CLAUDIUS
Wait…
LAERTES
What?
CLAUDIUS
LAERTES
[Laertes exits]
CLAUDIUS
GERTRUDE
Why did you ask me? You are the one who should take responsible for this.
