Inventors and

Inventions

Multimodal project
Objective:
Students will work together in assigned groups to research and gather important information about an
inventor and his/her inventions utilizing the gallery walk, handouts, biographies, and online resources.
Students will put this information into a Google Slides presentation and present their final slide show
project to the class.

Procedures:
Students will partake in a gallery walk depicting inventors and their inventions.
Students will be given handouts and we will read together as a class about these inventors and their
invention and their impact on society.
Students will be placed into assigned groups of 4-5 students and each group will be assigned one of
the discussed inventors.
Students will work in their assigned groups to research additional information about their given inventor
and use this information for their Google Slides presentation.
Students will present the presentation orally to the class.
Students will be graded based upon the attached rubric.
Common Core Standards
RI.5.1 - Quote accurately from a text when explaining what the text says explicitly and when
drawing inferences from the text

RI.5.3 - Explain the relationships or interactions between two or more individuals, events, ideas,
or concepts in a historical, scientific, or technical text based on specific information in the text.

RI.5.4 - Determine the meaning of general academic and domain-specific words and phrases in
a text relevant to a grade 5 topic or subject area.

RI.5.9 - Integrate information from several texts on the same topic in order to write or speak
about the subject knowledgeably.

SL.5.1 - Engage effectively in a range of collaborative discussions (one-on-one, in groups, and


teacher-led) with diverse partners on grade 5 topics and texts, building on others' ideas and
expressing their own clearly.

SL.5.4 - Report on a topic or text or present an opinion, sequencing ideas logically and using
appropriate facts and relevant, descriptive details to support main ideas or themes; speak clearly
at an understandable pace.

Contained within their presentation they will need to include the following:

● Who is the inventor you are investigating?


● What inventions did he or she make?
● When were the inventions made?
● Where is the inventor from?
● Why did the inventor choose this invention, was it intentional?
● How do these inventions influence our world and you personally?
