CLOUD COMPUTING

What is cloud?
Cloud is basically outsourcing compu ng resources to outside
companies.It's like ren ng an
apartment instead of buying
one.It's faster and easier when
you're young,but once you can
afford an investment for an
apartment,it's actually cheaper to
buy instead of ren ng one.Cloud compu ng can help you start a
business, but once your company grows it's be er to create your
own datacenter.

Also the learning curve is great as you get to work not only with
devloping solu ons but also making them scalable nd
efficient. And there are so many approaches that can be tried out
to a par cular problem by using Big Data computa onal pla orms
alongside Cloud compu ng.
Impact of Cloud compu ng in real life:
Cloud compu ng is changing our lives in many ways. Some of the
ways are:
Social Impact:The likes of YouTube and Google are tes mony to a
shi in how people are now interac ng with others. From remote
loca ons to the global center stage, an event can reach the four
corners of the planet by going viral. Global has reached its true
significance, and we’ve seen the emerging of the “ci zen
journalist” on this global stage. Anyone can turn into an instant
reporter, and live news feeds are constantly streaming the media,
at mes sparking social upheavals.

It has never been as easy to look

out for long forgo en friends and
classmates with the explosion of
social networks and websites
proposing ways to connect and
relate through online
communi es. Facebook is of
course a primary example.

Public figures and poli cians, too, are now turning to engines such
as Twi er to get a feel of the community and convey their views
while bearing the pressure and influence from the groups they are
looking at leading
Taking advantage of developments in cloud technology and the
social media space has allowed these different actors access to
sophis cated analy cal abili es. As an example of that, businesses
are now increasingly using data from social media pla orms in
combina on with cloud-based informa on resources to get be er
insights on poten al services, innova ons and customer
requirements.

Educa on:Educa onal ins tu ons have been quick to realize the
advantages of cloud technology and have been eagerly adop ng it
for several reasons, including:

Ability for the students to access data anywhere, any me, to

enroll in online classes and to par cipate in group ac vi es
The value of combining
business automa on
processes to streamline
subscrip on, class
enrollments and
assignment tracking, thus
reducing expenses
significantly

Ability for the ins tu onal body to leverage the storage cloud to
store the daily 2.5 quin llion bytes of data securely and without
the need to cater to a complicated infrastructure

The benefit of process billing and charging for educa on and non-
educa on related ac vi es

While these are probably most obvious in a mature and developed

market, cloud compu ng technology also offers benefits to
students from developing countries. Access is now instantly
available and in many instances free thanks to the prolifera on of
websites dispensing educa onal material and cloud knowledge-
sharing communi es. A simple internet connec on can go a long
way.

Development:Cloud technology also

offers other benefits to developing
countries since they no longer have
the burden of inves ng in costly
infrastructures and can tap into data
and applica ons that are readily
available in the cloud. I briefly
men oned the educa on sector above, but the same applies to
other areas, such as banking, agriculture, health and science.

Take as an example the telecom industry, whereby these

developing countries have been fast embracing the smart mobile
technology that accelerated development by leaping over the
tradi onal wire and copper infrastructure.

Has Cloud compu ng lost it's charm?

Regardless of industry or size, all companies need digital
infrastructure to support their business opera ons. But cloud will
change ICT from a support system into a produc on system.
For some, the cloud has lost its mystery and is now a u lity service
like water or electricity. That’s okay. People needn’t understand
the full ramifica ons of cloud compu ng to benefit from what it
does.
