CHAPTER 1 (INTRODUCTION)

- Background
Language is basically a means of communication in which people express their feelings, ideas,
opinions, and desires. There are many languages in the world and each language is different
from one to anothe r. People must be able to master at least one language in order to make a
relation to others. Language is also acts as a mean of establishing and maintaining relationship
with other people. Without language, human will get difficulties when they want to share or
express what they are thinking and feeling, people will be difficult to communicate with other
people. Therefore, the importance of language cannot be separated from human lives. One of
the languages which is very important and necessary to learn is English. English is an
international language that is used broadly in the world. English is known as one of the
international languages. Many people from all parts in the world use English as their first or
even their second language. English has an important role in kinds of fields. It is used in tourism,
business, politics, education, science, etc. Therefore , mastering English is very important,
moreover in this global era. So, people will be able to face the over changing world easily if they
master English well.

- Purpose
a. To express habits,general truths,repeated actions or unchanging situations,emotions,and
wishes
b. To give instructions or direction
c. To express fixed arrangements

a. What is “simple present tense”?

- What is Simple Present Tense?


The simple present tense is one of several forms of present tense in English. It is used to
describe habits, unchanging situations, general truths, and fixed arrangements. The simple
present tense is simple to form. Just use the base form of the verb: (I take, you take, we take,
they take) The 3rd person singular takes an -s at the end. (he takes, she takes)

- Example
a. Positive : Tini goes to school by bus
Negative: Tini does not go to school by bus
b. Positive : Jimin eats rice every morning
Negative : Jimin does not eat rice every morning
c. Positive : taehyung live in Daegu
Negative : taehyung does not live in Bandung
d. Positive : seokjin is a teacher
Negative : seokjin is not a teacher
e. Positive : suga and jungkook play together
Negative : suga and jungkook do not play together

(-) s + do/does + not + v1 + o

Nominal sentence
 POSITIVE

Use of simple present tense

 To declare a job,act,or event that is usually done


 To state a common occurrence
 To declare an event that is certain or in the future
 Declare an order or request to the interlocutor

SIMPLE PRESENT TENSE FUNCTION

 To express habitual or action with verbs. Example : He always consumes low rice she
sends much money to her parents in the village every month.
 General truth
Example : The sun rises in the east and sets in the west
 To express feeling,senses,mental stale,possesison
Example : She loves dancing
 To discuss plans or shedules in the future but in the near future with now,usually talk
about transportation or verb events commonly used : arrive,come and leave.
Example : He arrives from Osaka at 1 p.m.
 To give instructions or serial actions
Example : You go straight a head then turn left

CONLCUSION

After we knowing and following this discussion,we are in the final section,it is about the
conclusion section. Allow me to conlude by highlight the fact that simple present tense is used
in English for the following purposes like world thruths,simple statements of fact,to refer to the
future, etc.
