concepts largely affect the respondents’
perceptions and expectations in nursing
as their career. On the other hand,
these concepts and theories in nursing
don’t affect the respondents’ reasons in
taking up nursing as their career. Also,
this study revealed that the subject on
Theoretical Foundations has a BARANGAY
significant impact to the respondents’
personal goals and aspirations in
choosing nursing as their field of study.
LEVEL OF COMPLIANCE OF
NURSES IN THE NURSERY ON
HANDWASHING IN SELECTED
GOVERNMENT AND PRIVATE
HOSPITALS IN LAGUNA

The study aimed to determine
the factors that can affect the level of
compliance of nurses in the nursery on
handwashing in selected government
and private hospitals in Laguna; to
assess their level of compliance on
handwashing; and, to determine the
significant difference between the level
of compliance on handwashing among
nurses in the selected government and
private hospitals in Laguna.
Results showed that there are
five common factors that affect the level
of compliance of nurses in the nursery
on handwashing in the government
hospitals while there are three in the
private hospitals. It was also found out
that all the hospitals have similar level

of compliance on handwashing. In
general, there is no significant
difference on the level of compliance on
handwashing between the selected
government and private hospitals in
Laguna.
THE SENIOR CITIZENS OF
SAN JUAN IN
CALAMBA CITY: THEIR
PHYSIOLOGICAL NEEDS-RELATED
HEALTH PROBLEMS

This study determined the
demographic profile of the senior
citizens of Barangay San Juan in
Calamba City and the occurrence of
their physiological health problems. The
study used descriptive research design.
Sixty (60) senior citizens were selected
using the convenient sampling method.
In conducting the study, an adapted-
modified questionnaire was given and
data were treated using relative
frequency, weighted mean, and chi-
square test.
Results showed that majority of
the respondents are still married and
that they do not experience water-
drinking related sickness, food-related
sickness, and sleep-related sickness. It
was also found out that age and
educational attainment do not
significantly affect any of the
occurrences of the physiological health
problems among the senior citizens of
Barangay San Juan in Calamba City.

It was recommended that
continuous support should be given to
the senior citizens for them to further
minimize the occurrence of any form of
sickness and that further studies
should be done to find out the other
physiological problems of the senior
citizens.

This research study determined
the demographic profile of Level III
nursing students of Colegio de San
Juan de Letran Calamba and the
different preventive health behaviors
they practice. The study used
descriptive comparative design. One
hundred twenty-two (122) Level III
nursing students were selected using
random sampling method. A experience of third year nursing
researcher’s self-constructed
questionnaire was administered to the
respondents and data were treated
using relative frequency, weighted
mean, and Chi-square test.
It was concluded that the
demographic variables of selected
Level III nursing students affect the
different preventive health behaviors
that they perform. The study
recommended conducting a deeper
study to enhance and support what are
presented in the questionnaire about
preventive health behaviors on

Influenza A (H1N1). The clinical
instructors, on the other hand, should
develop an educational program and
teaching style to enhance students’
knowledge about preventive health
behaviors on Influenza A (H1N1).
Lastly, further studies should also be
made to determine the preventive
health behaviors among Level III
nursing students when categorized with
other variables such as marital status,
self-efficacy, cognition, environment,
and economic resources.

The study aimed to determine
the quality of related learning
students at Colegio de San Juan de
Letran Calamba in a government and a
private hospital. Fifty-four (54) selected
third year nursing students of Colegio
de San Juan de Letran Calamba who
had their rotation at Laguna Provincial
Hospital and St. John the Baptist
Medical Center from November 2009 to
January 2010 were chosen as
respondents.
The study utilized descriptive
method using survey questionnaire as
instrument in gathering the needed
