Convenience of Blade RRUs

Faster Simpler
• Small size, light weight (12 L/14 • Assemble into a box,
KG), easy to be transported easy to obtain a site
• 5-minute installation, fast capacity • Three RRUs have a
expansion smaller size of 36 L,
saving site space

More independent More flexible

• Independent installation of
each frequency band, easy • Multi-band (900 MHz, 1800 MHz,
network planning 2.1 GHz, 2.6 GHz, and so on)
• Independent maintenance of • Less spare parts, easy to introduce
each RRU new frequency bands

Assembling Blade RRUs into a Box Simplifies
Site Deployment
Blade RRU Traditional RRU
◆ Comparison between blade
RRU and traditional RRU
➢ Number of Boxes: 1 VS 3
➢ Volume: 36L VS 46L

◆ Blade RRUs can be assembled into a box, which is easy to obtain a site and minimizes
the rental cost.
◆ The box reduces wind resistance on the tower, simplifies site deployment, and saves
installation space.

DCDU Main Functions
⚫ Supports one -48 V DC power input and ten -48 V DC power outputs.
⚫ Supplies power for the BBU, RFU, FAN, and user devices inside the
cabinet.
⚫ Provides surge protection of 10 kA in differential mode and 15 kA in
common mode and dry contact for reporting the surge protection
failure alarm.

Power Subrack (DC/DC)
⚫ The power subrack (DC/DC) consists of the wiring unit (DC/DC)
and PSU (DC/DC).

⚫ The PSU (DC/DC) converts +24 V DC power to -48 V DC power

and supplys the -48 V DC power to the DCDU.

Power Distribution Mode1
⚫ Power subrack of 3900 series base station supports three types of
power input: -48 V DC, +24 V DC, and 220 V AC.
⚫ If the external -48 V DC power input is used, no additional power
system is required. The external -48 V DC power input is directly
connected to the power input terminals on the DCDU. Then, the ten
output terminals on the DCDU supply the -48 V DC power to each
module in the subrack.

Power Distribution Mode2
⚫ If the external +24 V DC or +220 V Alternative Current (AC)
power input is used, the Power Supply Unity (PSU) (DC/DC)
converts the external input power into -48 V DC power and
supplies it to the DCDU. Then, the DCDU distributes -48 V
DC power to each module in the cabinet.

TDM-Based Co-Transmission on the MBTS

◆ Only GU multimode base stations support TDM-based co-transmission.

 TDM-based co-transmission over Iub and Abis on the multimode base station can
be implemented by using TDM over packet (TOP). The GSM and UMTS traffic
can be multiplexed onto the same SDH/PDH network by using the TDM timeslot
cross-connect function.

Typical MBTS Co-Transmission Scenario
◆ Scenario 1: Main-Control-Board Panel Interconnection
⚫ The main control boards follow the priority
(LMPT > UMPT > GTMU) to provide a
shared port based on the main control
board processing capability.

◆ Scenario 2: UTRP Panel Interconnection

If the UTRP provides the Ethernet port, the
UTRP is preferentially used to connect to
the co-transmission main control board,
such as the UTRPc.

If the UTRP does not provide an Ethernet
port, main control boards are connected
over the panel.

Typical MBTS Co-Transmission Scenario (Cont.)
◆ Scenario 3: Main-Control-Board Backplane Interconnection
⚫ The main control board provides a).
transmission port and connects to another
main control board over the backplane
(backplane tunnel

◆ Scenario 4: UTRPc Backplane Interconnection

The UTRPc provides a transmission
port and connects to the main control
board of a non-managing mode over
the backplane (backplane tunnel).

◆ Scenario 5: UMPT-Based Co-Transmission on the Co-MPT MBTS Side

The UMPT of the GU/GL/UL/GUL co-MPT
multimode base station provides an FE/GE
port for co-transmission.

Co-Transmission Resource Allocation Rules
◆ Transmission resource allocation rules
➢ For a separate-MPT MBTS, the co-transmission port transmits and
receives the local data and the passing data. In this case, the co-
transmission port centrally schedules and manages the local data of its
own mode and the passing data of other modes.
➢ For a co-MPT MBTS, the co-transmission port transmits and receives
only the local data of all modes. In this case, the co-transmission port
centrally schedules and manages the local data for all modes.
