Time : 2-3.30 PM

Venue : AB1 – AMD Lab

Registration number (Odd)

A single bay railway subway bridge is having a span of 10 m. A goods train carrying wagon
loads of 10 tonnes/meter length is running on it and the diameter of the wheels are 1m. The
cross-section of the rail is an I-section with height 120 mm, width 100 mm, flange thickness 15
mm and web thickness 25 mm. Check for the validity of the design and also calculates the
critical speed which the train should avoid.

Take E = 210 E9 N/m2, Poisson’s ratio = 0.3 and density = 7850 kg/m3

Registration number (Even)

A steel signboard across the highway of width 40,000 mm is attached to two posts of hollow
circular cross section of OD 200 mm and ID of 190 mm. The height of the post is 12000 mm
from the ground. The sign board is 1200 mm height and subjected to a wind pressure load of
1N/mm2. Check for the validity of the design using FEM.

Take E = 210 E9 N/m2, Poisson’s ratio = 0.3 and density = 7850 kg/m3
