Students will be able to develop the following communicative sub-
competences:
1. Linguistic competences, learners will be able:
1.1. To get acquainted with the meaning of the new vocabulary
words given in the Glossary section and speak on the topic “Appearances”. 1.2. To enrich vocabulary in order to specify ideas. 1.3. To develop ability of using and selecting synonyms and antonyms.
2. Discursive competences, learners will be able:
1.4. To make logical sentences and phrases when getting
information about new words. 1.5. To deal easily with time expressions – saying dates, and phrases with synonyms and antonyms.
3. Strategic competences, learners will be able:
1.6. To practice the art of spontaneous storytelling for creative imagination development. 1.7. To express themselves in order to speak and analyze the texts “The burglar’s friend” and a radio drama “The perfect crime.” 1.8. To practice word building by looking at how suffixes and prefixes can change verbs to nouns, nouns to adjectives, and positives to negatives.
4. Socio-cultural competences, leaners will be able:
1.9. To realize the difference between how the date is usually written in American English and in other languages. 1.10. To identify what makes a story interesting and exciting and implement this knowledge in practice.
5. Intercultural competences, learners will be able:
1.11. To see the difference between our way of storytelling and other nationality people’s ways of storytelling. 1.12. To tell different stories round the class from a news report to a play.
Visual aids and materials
- Work cards with questions to the texts “The burglar’s friend” and “The perfect crime” and newspaper stories; - Work sheets based on the grammar topic “The Past Simple and Past Continuous”; - Posters and pictures related to the topic “Telling Stories.”
