area of 50 sq.cm. If the relative permeability is 800, find (a) reluctance
of the ring; (b) current required in 200-tturn coil to produce a flux of
1mWb in the ring.

2. The magnetic circuit shown in the figure has cross sectional area of
the core as 5x5 sq.cm, core length= 50cm, gap length=4mm and
N=600 turns. In order to produce a flux density of 1.2T, find the
exciting current in the coil. Neglect fringing and assume relative
permeability of iron as 10,000.

3. A magnetic circuit is made of cast steel wherein the central limb has
500 turns apart from other dimensions shown. Cross sectional area of
the central limb is 600 sq. mm and of the outer limbs is 375 sq.mm.
Calculate the exciting current required to set up a flux of 0.9 mWb in
the air gap. Given that for cast steel, having flux density as 1.5 T,
H1=3000ATs/m, whereas for flux density of 1.2 T the value of H2 is
1400 ATs/m.

4. For a magnetic circuit made of cast steel, cross sectional area of the
central limb is 20 sq.cm and each of the outer limbs is 15 sq.cm. If
the coil has 400 turns calculate the coil current needed to establish a
flux of 0.9 mWb in the air gap.
5. For the magnetic circuit shown below cross sectional area of the core
is 30 sq.cm throughout. For core µr = 4000, coil C1 with 200 turns
produces 5000 ATs. Flux in the central limb is 10 mWb from a to b
and coil C2 has 100 turns. Calculate the value and direction of current
in C2.

6. A magnetic circuit of cast steel is arranged as shown in the figure. The

exciting coil with 1000 turns sets up a flux of 1 mWb in the central
limb. Find the coil current if µr= ∞ and if µr= 6000. Neglect fringing
and leakage.
