INSEAD, one of the world’s leading business schools, will bring high level leaders from business and
academia, decision makers and influential entrepreneurs to discuss the growing role of corporate
governance in both public and private sectors in Central and Eastern Europe. The event is set to be held
at the National Bank of Romania, Lipscani street no 25, in Bucharest.

In an intense half-day session, delegates from across the region will be present in open dialogues and
interactive sessions with INSEAD faculty and experts. INSEAD delegation will be represented by Jose-
Luis Alvarez, Academic Director, INSEAD Corporate Governance Centre, Senior Affiliate Professor of
Organisational Behaviour, the President and Executive Board of the INSEAD Alumni Association and the
INSEAD Advancement and Alumni Relations team.

Biographies

Jose Luis Alvarez


Jose Luis Álvarez is Senior Affiliate Professor of Organisational Behaviour at INSEAD. He teaches in the
MBA Program (where he received three times the Best Teacher Award) and mostly in executive
education programmes, where he has also received several teaching and directing recognitions. He
serves as academic director of the Leadership Transition Programme and the Leading for Results
Programme. Professor Álvarez was a Visiting Professor at the Harvard Business School and at
Cambridge University.

Professor Álvarez holds degrees in Law and Philosophy from the University of Barcelona, an MBA from
IESE Business School, and a M.A. and a Ph.D. in Organizational Behavior from Harvard University. His
research has been published in the MIT-Sloan Management Review, European Management
Journal, Organization Studies, Organizations, Corporate Governance, and he has published six books,
on corporate governance, senior executive careers and the political facets of the managerial work. His
book Sharing Executive Power: Roles and Relationships at the Top published by Cambridge University
Press was selected as one of the top three books in 2007 by the Academy of Management.

His current work, to be published in 2019 by Oxford University Press, centers on the executive functions
and roles in corporate governance. His consulting experience has focused mostly on issues of corporate
governance, organisational design and change.

Ana-Maria Mihaescu
Ana-Maria, one of the most appreciated business women in Romania, is the former IFC regional
manager for Romania, Bulgaria, Czech Republic, Hungary, Moldova, Poland and Slovakia. Before joining
the IFC, she was President of Eximbank, Project Officer for the financial sector for the World Bank
Resident Mission in Romania and Deputy Director of the Romania Bank for Development.
Ana-Maria is currently an independent member of the Board of MedLife SA and Raiffeisen Bank
Romania.

She holds a degree from the Academy of Economic Studies, Faculty of International Economic Relations.

Dan Pascariu
A former executive with extensive experience in commercial and investment banking and across various
industries. Passionate about corporate governance and one of the key advocates of corporate
governance in Romania. Chairman at UniCredit Bank Romania and ANA Hotels, non-executive member
at Transfond, Fabryo and a series of other companies. Dan is the founder of ARB – Romanian
Association of Banks and the first president of ARB and the co-founder and associated professor of the
Romanian Banking Institute.

Rucsandra Hurezeanu
Founder and CEO of Ivatherm cosmetics, the first Romanian dermo-cosmetic company.. Ivatherm is
today one of the top four leading dermo-cosmetic companies in Romania, and an international presence
in 13 countries in Eastern Europe, Asia and the Middle East.
Rucsandra holds an EMBA from ASEBUSS Business School, a Master in Medical Management from
ESCP Europe and a PhD in Medicine from the Medicine University in Cluj-Napoca.

Sergiu Negut
Sergiu is well known for growing businesses in Romania as an entrepreneur and general manager. He is
involved in various successful start-ups, being the co-founder of Fintech OS, associated partner at
FruFru, 2Performant, Softelligence. He has extensive experience in general management having been
the Deputy CEO & Board Member at Regina Maria and PM CEE at Amgen Switzerland.
Sergiu is the Associate Dean of Entrepreneurial Growth at Maastricht School of Management in Romania
and a Board Member at Romanian Business Leaders Foundation.
He holds an INSEAD MBA (2003) and an MSc in Computer Science from University Politehnica in
Bucharest and a BA in International Business from ASE.

Magdalena Manea
Magda Manea, INSEAD IDP-C 2016, has over 25year experience in banking and held senior
positions with local and international organizations, including the central bank in Romania and RBI

Holding in Vienna. She specialized in treasury and balance sheet management, corporate finance, risk
management and internal control. Most recent Board positions include RBS Bank Romania, the
electronic payment system Transfond SA, Electrogroup Infrastructure, CEC Bank, FINS and B2Kapital.
She holds a finance diploma and an executive MBA from Asebuss & Kennesaw State University. She is
exclusively an independent director since 2015.

Sadia Khan
Sadia has pursued a versatile career path traversing investment banking, financial regulation, family
businesses and entrepreneurship across three continents. With Masters degrees in Economics from both
Cambridge University, U.K and Yale University, U.S.A, Sadia started her career at Lehman Brothers in
New York. Since then she has worked with various international institutions and local regulatory
authorities, including the Asian Development Bank (ADB) in the Philippines, the Securities & Exchange
Commission of Pakistan and the State Bank of Pakistan. She is currently the CEO of Selar Enterprises
(Pvt) Ltd, a company she founded in 2011.

Sadia has been a passionate advocate of corporate governance since the past two decades. While at the
ADB, she helped implement corporate governance reforms in a number of member countries in South
East Asia. As a senior member of the Securities & Exchange Commission of Pakistan she was
responsible for implementing the first Code of Corporate Governance in Pakistan. Since then she has
served as a member of various Task Force/Committees responsible for Revising the Code of Corporate
Governance and introducing Guidelines for State Owned Enterprises.

As a corporate governance practitioner, she has served on various boards as an Independent Director
including Engro Fertilizers, Pakistan Cables, Edotco Pakistan, Karandaz, HBL Asset Management, First
MicroFinance Bank, Kashf Foundation, Punjab Board of Investment & Trade, National Testing Service
and as a Non Executive Director on the Boards of the United Arab Shipping Agency Company and the
Delta Group of Companies.

Sadia is the global President of the INSEAD Alumni Association. She has also served as a member of
the Executive Committee of the Pakistan France Business Alliance and as the Chairperson of Alliance
Francaise. In 2014, the French Government recognized her contributions to France-Pakistan relations by
awarding her the prestigious French award, "Chevalier de l'Ordre National du Mérite" (Knight of the
National Order of Merit).

Sadia was a member of the Global Agenda Council on Pakistan convened by the World Economic Forum
during 2012-14. She has contributed regularly at international conferences and events as a speaker and
panelist on issues ranging from multiculturalism to women entrepreneurs.
