Purpose

The purpose of the milestone reporting process is:-

● To provide clusters with the opportunity to reflect in a focussed way on their progress and to inform their
future planning

the formative learning processes
● To provide the Ministry of Education with information to evaluate the ICT PD national programme; allowing
the identification of issues and trends and exemplar practice.
● To provide the Ministry of Education with evidence that an individual cluster is complying with the
contracted agreement.

Submission of milestone

report on CD-ROM or Flash memory drive.
If you have not received acknowledgement of the safe delivery of your email within 3 working days please contact
the Ministry at ictpd.programme@minedu.govt.nz

Response to milestone

During the development of your milestone your National Facilitator will support you with formative feedback on the
process that will help you to gauge your progress so far and future steps. Once they have approved your report it
should be circulated to all cluster schools and then forwarded to the Ministry of Education.
When the report has been approved by the Ministry of Education a formal letter acknowledging the report will be
sent to the Principal of the lead school. Copies should be circulated by the lead school to all schools within the

A day is planned to work with E-time in December to review and update implementation of the key
competencies in our everyday curriculum. Also to line them up with school values and principles and
how we assist students to self monitor their progress on the key competencies.

In term 3 we developed an inquiry rubric to assist with our inquiry planning. This was developed with the
staff and it is now included in our curriculum. We also reflected on our planning process and decided as
staff to trial planning as a syndicate rather than in a planning team. This is being trailed in Term 4.

a. What progress has been made towards achieving these goals?

Provide an overview of your cluster’s progress towards these goals. It should NOT be written as a series of
individual school reports.

● Online assessment tools are being used by some cluster schools

● Schools are shifting cumulative data onto online environments such as School Master

● Lead teachers are continuing to model effective use of ICT for teaching, learning and administration.

● Across cluster schools students are being given more opportunities to select appropriate ICT tools to
enhance their learning. This has been lead by teachers and an overall result of three years of intensive PD.

● Students who have been through the three years of PD have experienced and are independently using a
variety of ICT tools e.g. digital cameras, video technology, data projectors and IWB.

● Further uptake of Web 2 tools has created the opportunity for students to learn anywhere anytime. This has
lead to more authentic learning experiences and enabled students to reflect on their learning and share
what they are doing with whanau.

● Cluster schools are finding that their students are becoming more proactive in their approach to their
learning. They can customise the learning to suit them.

● Students are becoming more socially aware as a result of inquiry and enterprise type learning and this has
lead to them leading social action within their community.

● Qualitative and quantitative data is being gathered in each school which shows that student learning and
achievement is being raised.

Leaders and teachers are using ICT effectively for the purpose of teaching, learning and administration.

The two lead teacher practicums held in the first half of this year with our eTime facilitator were focused on
advanced skills geared to the lead teacher’s professional development – providing new ideas (to meet the cluster
leaders’ goal to “Introduce lead teachers to new teaching tools: The expectation was that lead teacher(s) take these
new ideas, skills and tools back to their schools for implementation.) The software covered, focused on tools that
could be used in action research work and to gather student voice, i.e. vocaroo, xtranormal, Myna, mind mapping
etc. The sessions were useful, in terms of tools for the action research and were passed on to teaching staff, some
of whom used the ideas in their classroom teaching for the research project. The final session in Term 3 was
geared towards sustainability and covered/revisited use of our wiki space, voice thread, blogs, google docs and
various other collaborative web 2 tools.

The in school support day for the lead teachers was particularly useful in terms of guidance for leading the action
research in our school and continuing development in the use of xtranormal, movie maker and interviewing
techniques. Other staff also benefited from time spent with Danny (eTime facilitator) looking at effective ways of
recording and using student voice and incorporating thinking skills into the writing programme.

Danny (eTime facilitator) has kept things enjoyable and practical and has provided a wealth of ideas and support
throughout the three years of our contract. He has been great to work with and has made a big difference for many
staff members as they have taken on the challenges of being part of an ICT Contract. He has set the Lead
Teachers up well for continuing without him and sustaining the momentum and collaboration started within the
cluster.
