1.

During six years of secondary school life, not only have I acquired knowledge, but also explored my
potential. As I like Liberal Studies and Economics, I hope to further look into Social Science or
Surveying in the university.
Sustainable development Strengths/Achievement

Social science is a study of current issues and human-society relationship. My OLE has triggered my
passion for this aspect. I got the Gold Award for Volunteer Service organized by the Social Welfare
Department for three years continuously, during which I delved into current affairs in depth. For example,
I understood the seriousness of intergenerational poverty after being a volunteer tour guide in Sky100
serving children living under the poverty line. I hope to specialise in social or public administration in the
university, so that I can carry out related projects aiming to help the needy and have opportunities to
discuss with professors in a bid to learn analysing and solving social problems critically and objectively.
Career aspiration

In the future, I hope to work in Government so as to accomplish my vision, which is contributing to

society. I conceive there are two kinds of leaders, namely the assertive dictators and democratic
negotiators. I am more inclined to be a negotiator who values the opinions of all stakeholders. I believe
striking a balance between different views before making final decisions can facilitate equity. I have a
thought, if every Hongkonger believes he is a part of Hong Kong and Hong Kong is also a part of him, all
of us will live together harmoniously.
Interest

As for Surveying, it is a business and professional study about real estate development and construction.
When I was small, I was fascinated with LEGO bricks. Instead of focusing on the construction part, I
enjoyed using my toy cannons to “bomb” the castle so as to test how durable it was and found ways to
improve. I am not good at design but have a strong interest and incentive to make constructions safer.

Housing has long been the limelight of Hongkongers. I hope to be a building surveyor to tackle the above
problems by promoting proper repairs as well as dealing with unauthorized building works. Actually, a
surveyor is different from an engineer and architect and he needs to work with both people. I am
confident to be a successful surveyor with excellent negotiation, good communication skills that I
acquired from the work as a school Head Prefect and ability to work independently.
Strengths
Leadership

With a view to fulfilling my aspiration, I applied to the HKIS Building Surveying and Eddie Lee
Memorial Education Foundation Scholarship and had a presentation on “The Value of Existence of Sub-
divided Flats in Our Society”. Not only did I reflect on the necessity of sub-divided flats, but also be more
familiarized with surveying. Therefore, I deem I can definitely do more for the housing problem by being
a building surveyor after studying surveying in university.
I believe university education can help extract my potential and accomplish my life goal.
Achievement
2. I have enormous chances to practice my outstanding management skills. I was the President of the
Student Union when in Secondary 5. Managing the Student Union and leading members of it to organize
a wide range of school activities is the responsibility of mine. With limited resources, such as helpers and
money, a comprehensive plan was needed to get things moving. To demonstrate our sense of
responsibility as well as well thoughts, I decided to operate a corner selling stationery and biscuits even
though there were other activities that I had to take care of at the same time. There were various factors
that I had to consider in the plan, for example, abilities of the helpers, time required, budget and safety
measures. By arranging the priority of these factors, I managed to draft out plans for different activities.
By putting the plan into practice, I was more than happy to see things working out smoothly. Yet,
problems were inevitable such as bad weather that affected the dates of an inter-class basketball
competition. I solved those problems by elimination. I eliminated the factors which are at lower priority
of my plan and kept those with higher priority unchanged. Take the basketball competition as an
example, the number of competitions was kept constant, but the duration of each competition was
shortened. Therefore, the number of dates required was the same as the original plan. Being the President
of the Student Union, I have enhanced my problem-solving skills. The management skills and leadership
skills of mine were boosted to a higher level. It was my great honor to receive the Certificate of
Appreciation for serving as the President of the Student Union by demonstrating outstanding leadership
in organizing a wide variety of school activities jointly organized by the King’s College Old Boy’s
Association.
Strengths

Among the activities I have organized, the most unforgettable one was being the student officer-in-charge
of the Front Desk Reception at the celebration reception for our distinguished Alumnus CY Leung as the
Chief Executive of HKSAR. I have distributed the right task to the right person. Those with better
appearance would be serving in front of the main entrance; those with faster legs were taking charge of
message transmissions. Through organizing this memorable function, I have learnt that it is the details
that determine how well the issues are resolved. My leadership and organization skills were greatly
advanced.
Interest

I developed my interest in management while I was organizing those activities. I believe that team works
an essential tactic for management. I enjoyed very much working in a team. It was once said that Team
means Together Everyone Achieves More! Working together really can boost everyone’s morale in the
team.
Career aspiration

I am keen on being a management professional in the future. To achieve this ambition, I ought to have
good language skills as it is an essential tool for management. Therefore, enrolling in a programme of
management suits me down to the ground.

3. “In this modern world, buildings are everywhere and all of us would admit that we all cannot live without
buildings. Among resting in our apartments, studying in schools and working in offices, buildings are of
paramount importance in our daily lives. I would like to contribute to the society by becoming an
Architect. To achieve this goal, I wish to pursue advanced study in architecture. Experience

To many people, Architecture is associated with physics. However, after I attended a talk about
Architecture, I discovered that Architecture is beyond physics and it is more about the harmony between
sciences and design. With my passion on design, I am able to combine my sciences knowledge with my
innovation and that makes Architecture even more suitable for me.

Being one of the committee members of the Arts Club, I have a fruitful experience in design. In addition,
I had an invaluable opportunity to organize our school’s 85th Anniversary Visual Arts Exhibition in 2011.
Throughout the exhibition, I took the initiative to familiarize myself about the nature of Arts and design
and this makes me even keener on expressing myself through brilliant artworks.

It is my sincere hope to study Architecture in my tertiary education. Should I be given a chance, I will
certainly do my utmost to acquire professional architectural knowledge. I believe the Architecture
programme will provide an education that crosses the divide between Arts and Sciences. Moreover, I
anticipate that the problem-based learning in the programme can foster a sense of community and
facilitate my creativity.

I really hope I will be given a chance to study Architecture in my tertiary education. I believe my
enthusiasm would be highly beneficial to my pursuit. I also feel I have much to offer to this industry."
Sustainable participation

4. "History has been an enchanting field to me. When I was studying Chinese history during my secondary
education, I learnt the changes in China throughout the past 5000 years. I discovered that there are
rhythm and sequences among the changes, like the quality of governance. And here comes my question:
why does the tragedy of an empire keep on collapsing has been repeatedly put on the stage of China?

During my secondary school years, I have consistently participated in Chinese writing competitions and
have also worked as an editor for the school newspaper. These experiences have enhanced my skills of
editing and journalizing. I have also gained great interest on languages and built a concrete foundation on
studying Arts subjects. I believe these experiences can assist me in my future career.

I have also joint an exchange tour to Beijing. It was a chance of a life-time. I have experienced the culture
and education system of Mainland China, which is, in fact, completely different from what I used to
perceive. Spending a week in China with mandarin-speaking friends, I have made great improvements in
Putonghua and my communication strategies. This exchange tour has also raised my awareness to take up
my responsibilities to serve and to contribute to my country.

As Victor Hugo writes “What is history? An echo of the past in the future; a reflex from the future on the
past.” Hence, past and present are inseparable, in that what we are today has been formed by past events.
Therefore, the study of the past illuminates the present. I hope that studying History can broaden my
horizons and well-equip myself to face challenges in the real-society, also to pass on my knowledge to the
next generation, and contribute to our society."
5. "During six years' secondary school life, I have experienced a lot and my knowledge has been enriched.
As time flies, this is one of the most critical moments for my life and that is to 'fight' for a seat in
University.

For me, I am interested in learning subjects related to Business, Accounting and Management. When I
was in senior form, I have selected Economics and BAFS as my elective subjects. By studying these
subjects, this can really raise my interest in studying. I can understand more information and concepts that
are related to financial and accounting aspects. Moreover, after studying BAFS, I started noticing more
about news related to business environment in Hong Kong and the global market. By doing so, it can
build up my foundation in knowing more about the business environment in the reality. In addition to the
enhancement of my knowledge, by studying BAFS, especially the accounting module, I can realise when
doing anything, we have to concentrate. Otherwise, errors will occur and will seriously affect the
outcome.

During my secondary school life, I also participated in several voluntary works such as flag selling and
visiting elderly home. Joining these activities have built up my confidence in interacting with strange
people, this changes my personality as I was a quiet person before. Furthermore, I can practise my social
responsibility by joining voluntary work which is related to the study of business as firms have to bear
their corporate social responsibility.

By learning more about financial and accounting studies, this can be applied to our daily life and as well
as useful to our future career. Hope that I will have an opportunity to get a place in University and can be
able to contribute to the society in the future."
