Foreword

The utilized mud pump trailer is one of the components for NDSC Oman 2000HP drilling
rig, and is used for transporting utilized mud pump. It is only applicable to utilized mud pump
for NDSC Oman 2000HP drilling rig. In order to make users use this trailer better, we make the
User Manual of Utilized Mud Pump Trailer. This user manual generally describes the technical
parameters, structural features, installation and commissioning, lubrication, maintenance,
common troubles and troubleshooting etc of the utilized mud pump trailer. Operators must read
this manual carefully before the installation, operation and transportation of the utilized mud
pump trailer.
There is a recommended spare parts list attached to this user manual as a reference for
users ordering spare parts.
Each utilized mud pump trailer has an ex-factory serial number, and users should point out
its ex-factory serial number when ordering spare parts or inquiring related things.

Drilling Rig

1. Safety warnings

 Only trained and qualified operators can install, operate and repair equipment with
qualification certificates.
 Operators must read related user manuals before operation, and can operate or maintain
equipment after the familiarity with its functions and operation.
 There shall be a chief principal designated for installation and repair, the persons
participating in work shall be assigned with clear work, and detailed and reliable safety
measures shall be available.
 In the use process, strictly execute its operation specifications and follow technical safety
rules.
 Do not run equipment in the dark unless there are proper lighting facilities.
 Persons on duty shall wear labor protection articles as required.
 The used hoisting and handling equipment must adapt to related weight to be operated.
 Make sure to release pressure to zero in disconnection of any high-pressure pipelines or
hoses. Follow similar procedures in wiring of electric appliances and make sure to cut off
power supply before trying repair.
 It is forbidden to maintain and repair equipment during its operation.
 Do not overload equipment.
 Don't point high-pressure air at human body, as it may cause personal injury. It is forbidden
to rotate ball bearing or roller bearing with high-pressure air. Do not point high-pressure air at
fire.

2. Product description

2.1. Purposes

The utilized mud pump trailer is one of the components for NDSC Oman 2000HP drilling

rig, and is used for transporting utilized mud pump. The utilized mud pump can be moved when
the tractor head provided by the user is connected with the traction pin on the utilized mud
pump trailer by the saddle in a movement process, thereby saving transportation cost and
improving work efficiency.
Application range: it is only applicable to the transportation of utilized mud pump for
NDSC Oman 2000HP drilling rig.

The utilized mud pump trailer mainly comprises: 1. tires, 2. axles, 3. rims, 4. frame, 5.
platform assembly, 6. ladder, 7. handrail assembly, 8. hydraulic cylinder and 9. rear frame.
Refer to Fig. 2.

Axles and tires are used for bearing transport load, and the operation and maintenance of
axles refer to the Operation and Maintenance Manual of Axles and Suspension in detail.
Frame is the main structural component for trailer and is used for installing and fixing
utilized mud pump and cable tray.
The supporting oil cylinder is used for regulating the height difference between the traction
pin on the traction frame of the trailer and the saddle on the trailer head, and the traction pin
adopts standard 3 1/2'' assembled one (diameter 89mm).

Trailer air joint connected with air line and electrically connected seven-jack socket are
arranged on the front crossbeam of frame. Various lamps are installed on the front, rear and side
surfaces of the frame.

4. Installation, commissioning and use of trailer

4.1. Notices

Specially assign persons for operation and commanding in the installation of the trailer,
and refer to the reasonable suggestion of specialized persons in transportation departments for
partial problems appearing in the installation and use of the trailer.

4.2. Installation

4.2.1. Before the installation of the trailer, check safety and equipment status completely.
Mainly check the following contents:
 Check tires for surface wear and state and tire pressure for conformity with requirements.
 Check the surface of axle for deformation, crack or interference, rotating parts for favorable
lubrication and flexible rotation and installation for firmness and reliability.
 Check the welded components such as the trailer frame and suspension etc for damage, the
pins at joints for locking by safety pins, and the bolts, nuts and spring washers etc for
completeness.
 Check the hydraulic control system for flexible operation and the pipelines and quick
release joints for correct and reliable connection.
 The supporting hydraulic cylinder is necessarily placed on solid and smooth foundation
whose specific pressure is not less than 0.8MPa, such that the foundation cannot collapse to
cause the trailer to tilt in the jacking by the hydraulic cylinder.
4.2.2. Installation of axle suspension and tires
First, assemble tire 1 (the inflation pressure of the tire meets specified requirement:
600kPa), rim 4 and axle 3 etc in a set, and then firmly connecting axle 3 with rear frame by
U-bolt 4, afterwards, connect rear frame with upper pin of frame properly. The tire for trailer
makes use of 29.5R25 ★★, E3. Refer to Fig. 3.

4.2.3. Installation of supporting oil cylinder
Connect supporting oil cylinder, by bolts, on the oil cylinder mounting plate welded on the
frame. Refer to Fig. 4.

Notice: before the working state is changed into transportation state, disassemble ladders
for platforms around, and then jack by oil cylinder.
4.2.4. Installation of hydraulic pipeline
The pipeline of the supporting oil cylinder is properly connected with HPU as per the
hydraulic operation manual. Check hydraulic cylinder for firm fixation, and check hydraulic
cylinder and hydraulic pipeline for leakage when the piston rod of the supporting hydraulic
cylinder stretches out such that the frame just leaves the ground. Slowly jack up until the rear
frame and the lower pin of the frame can be installed. Refer to Fig. 5.
Notice: connect hydraulic pipelines strictly in one-to-one correspondence way as per
marks of operation control box, hoses and hydraulic cylinders, and wrong connection is not
allowed.

4.2.5. Electric system
The electric system adopts seven-core wire, the voltage is 24V, and the cathode is put on
iron. The seven-core socket in electric connection of trailer is arranged on the front crossbeam
of the frame, and brake light, turn light and rear light are arranged at the rear part of the frame.
Notice: check wires of trailer for reasonable layout without mutual interference and
disengagement.
4.2.6. Air line system of trailer
The air line brake part adopts dual-pipeline braking, has functions of running braking and
parking braking etc, and mainly comprises air joint, inflating pipeline, operating pipeline,
emergency relay valve, air tank and wheel brake etc.
The air joints of the inflating pipeline and the operating pipeline of the running brake
system are respectively connected with the air joint of the tractor, and when the semitrailer is

braked, all brake air chambers act synchronously. After a driver treads the brake pedal, all brake
air chambers of the semitrailer act to realize the normal foot brake. When inflating pipe leaks
air or bursts or the pipeline is disengaged as the tractor is disengaged from the semitrailer
suddenly in a running process, the semitrailer can be braked by itself.
The parking brake separating switch must be at ventilation state position in transport state
and must be at the position of closing air cutoff device in parking state.

4.3. Commissioning and use

4.3.1. Preparation before transport


Before the use, check all exposed connectors and fasteners, pay attention to the correct
installation of spring washer, split pin and its locking device. Tractor adapting to the semitrailer
is used for traction, after the new semitrailer runs for 10-20 kilometers, check hub and tire for
heat generation, and if high heat is generated, adjust the hub immediately.
4.3.2. Steps of connecting trailer with tractor-truck
4.3.2.1 When the trailer is connected with the tractor head, first check the heights of traction pin
of trailer and traction saddle for suitableness; for smooth connection, operate supporting oil
cylinder, so that the traction pin plate of the utilized mud pump trailer adapts to the height of the
traction saddle of the tractor, preferably, the traction pin plate of the semitrailer is about
10-30mm lower than the central position of the traction saddle of the tractor, otherwise, the
connection is impossible, and the damage to traction saddle, traction pin and relevant
components further can be caused. Refer to Fig. 6.

4.3.2.2. Secondly, check surface of traction saddle of tractor and traction pin and traction plate
of trailer for foreign matters, coating enough lubricating grease in favorable clean state, and
addition, check whether the left and right clamp plates of the traction saddle stretch outwards or
not.

4.3.2.3. After check is finished, the tractor can be operate to back, so that traction pin of trailer
enters the opening of a locking mechanism from a V-opening of the traction saddle, and then,
the pin block automatically rebounds to lock the left and right clamp plates; the locking block
also takes effect; after connection, the left and right clamp plates of the traction saddle must
clamp the working diameter of the traction pin.
Notice: when the tractor is backed, the centerlines of the tractor head and the trailer should
be consistent as much as possible; the offset between the two centerlines must be below 40mm,
and including angle between the two centerlines must be within 5 degrees at a full load and
within 7 degrees at idle road. Refer to Fig. 7.

4.3.2.4. After tractor and semitrailer are connected, retract the piston rods of left and right
supporting oil cylinders to limit positions, plug circuit plug, check turn light, brake light and
rear light for completeness and correctness, connect movable joint of pneumatic braking
pipeline, open venting valve switch, check air line, ensure smooth air line without air leakage.
After the air joints are communicated with each other, turn on the air line connection/separation
switch for the semitrailer on the tractor such that it is in the ventilation state.
4.3.3. Transport running of trailer
Check whether the pressure of air braking system accords with specified range
(650-750kPa) or not, when air pressure in storage barrel reaches 550kPa, run the trailer. The

running of semitrailer is the same as that of cars.


Notice:
 While running down long slopes or steep slopes, prevent braking drums from overheat,
brake by using engine braking device of tractor as much as possible. It is forbidden to use
braking system of semitrailer independently for a long time.
 When the braking hubs generate heat, stopping running, and cool the hubs. The inner
and outer tires of the rear shaft of semitrailer shall be exchanged after running for certain
distance, so that they are worn uniformly, thereby prolonging service life.
 In use for the first time, after the running within 1km, necessarily stop, and tighten
bolts of all tires again.
4.3.4. Steps of disengaging trailer with tractor
4.3.4.1. Tow to proper position by tractor.
Notice: when the trailer is disengaged with tractor head, operate on flat and compact
ground as much as possible. If the specific pressure of the foundation cannot reach above
0.8MPa, respectively pad one thick steel plate below the supporting plates of the supporting
devices, to prevent the condition that reconnection is impossible as load sinks.
4.3.4.2. Connect the hydraulic cylinders and the hydraulic control system, check the hydraulic
cylinder for oil leakage, and then operate the hydraulic cylinders, otherwise, exhaust the
hydraulic cylinders and then perform operation.
4.3.4.3. Adjust the piston rods stretching out of the two supporting oil cylinders to slowly jack
the trailer frame, after the piston rods of the oil cylinders support the trailer, close the air line
connection/separation switch for the semitrailer on the tractor, and then unplug the circular plug
and air brake pipeline joint, and check the trailer brake for complete braking.
4.3.4.4. Open locking block safety plate of traction saddle, push operating rod handle forwards,
so that locking block retreats from the grooves in the middle of the left and right clamping
plates and leans against the end parts of the left and right clamp plates, and then, slowly drive
tractor forwards, so that the traction pin is disengaged with the traction saddle, thereby
separating the tractor and the semitrailer.
4.3.5. Replacement of tires of trailer
4.3.5.1. Assemble spare tire and rim as per specifications, tire pressure 600kPa.

4.3.5.2. Put the trailer on the flat and solid ground, and then slowly and stably jack up the tire of
the trailer by jack, as shown in Fig. 8 until the tire on the axle leaves the ground (can be
disassembled).
4.3.5.3. Disassemble the tire needing replaced by tool.
4.3.5.4. Install intact spare tire on the axle and tighten nuts for tire.
4.3.5.5. Check and confirm that tire pressure meets specified requirement (600kPa) and nuts for
tire have been tightened.
4.3.5.6. Retract the hydraulic cylinder and jack slowly, observe the tire is in contact with the
ground slowly, and confirm that the tire has no exceptions.

5. Lubrication

When the trailer is used, ensure the effective lubrication between each rotating part and
corresponding contact surface. The trailer is lubricated by complex lithium base grease NLGI2
or Mobil XHP222 grease. Remove dirt before filling oil to lubricating nozzle, and clean grease
gun periodically by kerosene. The lubrication positions of the semitrailer refer to Fig. 8.

5.1. Fill the ball of the piston rod for the supporting oil cylinder with grease once every month.
5.2. Coat proper amounts of complex lithium base grease NLGI 2 on working surfaces of

traction pin and traction pin plate before every transport.


5.3. The axle and the rim are lubricated as per the regulations in corresponding user manuals.

6. Maintenance

 A person should be specially assigned to maintain the trailer, and partial troubles should be
handled by professional departments.
 Periodically check the paint quality on the surfaces of the trailer and repair paint in time if
the paint is damaged.
 The main components of the trailer are of welded structures, repair and correct if the weld
joints have cracks or the structures deform.
 Check tire bolts and mounting bolts of axle and hydraulic cylinder before every use,
looseness is not allowed, and screw if any; use the mounting bolts of the axle and the tire bolts
etc as required, and do not use common bolts.
 Check bolts on traction pin plate for connection before every use, and relock if bolts
loosen.
 Check oil cylinders, pipelines and hydraulic control valves before every use, remove
troubles and leakage or replace them in time.
 The maintenance of the hydraulic cylinder and the axle refers to corresponding user
manuals.
 When the trailer is not used, perform sunscreen, waterproof, moistureproof and rust-proof
treatment, and avoid impact in disassembly and lifting to prevent from damaging parts.
 Check and tighten the air line system and the circuit system on frame for looseness before
every use and tighten them if any. The pipeline system shall have no condensation water.
Particularly prevent the accumulation of the condensation water in winter, open the water drain
valve at the bottom of air tank to discharge water periodically. After running for a period of
time, check joint of pipeline for sealability, carry out leakage test, if air pressure is decreased by
not more than 0.5kg/cm2 within one hour, it indicates the sealability of pipeline system is
favorable, otherwise, check the doubtable positions by coating soapy water, and if joint leaks air,
eliminate the air leakage by screwing up joint.
 Parking place should be smooth, dry and clean without greasy dirt. For parking in severe

cold regions, clear away snow cover in parking place. For parking overnight in severe cold
regions, discharge accumulated water in air pipeline and air tank completely.

7. Use and maintenance instructions of tire

Check tire pressures for conformity with specified range (600kPa).


Notice:
 In use for the first time, after the running within 1km, necessarily stop, and tighten
bolts of all tires again.
 In the transportation process, continuously transport for 5km at most each time, and
then necessarily stop to check the air pressures, surface temperatures and appearances of tires,
the measured "hot" air pressure of the tire cannot be 10% more than the "cold" air pressure of
the tire, and if it exceeds the specified value, it shows the overheat of the tire, stop to cool, and
continuously run after all are confirmed to be normal.
When equipment is moved, the road surface is required to be flat, and ensure the max. load
of single tire is not beyond the requirements specified by the standard load in the movement
process.
Required technical conditions of road surface: no scattered stones or hard objects and
bulges etc on road surface, etc.
It is forbidden to steer still under load.
Engineering mechanical tire is not designed for operations on road. When engineering
vehicle runs on the road to transfer vehicle to new operation, take preventive measures
necessarily. Otherwise, tire is easy to have early damage such as delaminating and swell etc due
to overheat.
When any engineering vehicle runs or performs traction on the road, take preventive
protection for tire as per following measures.
Check tire pressure and adjust as per specified running inflation pressure before start. The
specific inflation pressure can be looked up as per the load of the tire.
It is forbidden to deflate to decrease air pressure when running on road. It is normal that
the air pressure rises during operations.

1. Storage and lifting of tire


(1) It is forbidden to use rope, lifting hook or forklift to directly lift the tire to move tire, and the
tire shall be moved by nonmetallic wide band with width not less than 150mm or special tire
holder to prevent tire bead of tire from being damaged.
(2) The tire shall not be mixed with oil, inflammables and chemical corrosives etc during
storage, avoiding sunshine and rain.
(3) The tire shall be lifted in conformity with relevant lifting operation safety operation
specification.
2. Installation and inflation of tire
(1) Before the installation of tires, check rim fitting surfaces, tire bead fitting surfaces and
O-ring surfaces for damage, and fitting surfaces must be lubricated by water-base lubricants
during assembly.
(2) Before the installation of tires, check whether things are left inside tires or not, and clean the
insides of tires cleanly.
(3) The initial inflation pressure of the tire cannot exceed 40psi (0.28Mpa), check rim and tire
for proper fit after the inflation to the initial pressure, and continuously inflate to specified
pressure after the fit at each position between the tire and rim is proper. In case of improper fit,
deflate, check and perform troubleshooting.
(4) During tire inflation, corresponding safety warnings shall be set, and operators cannot stand
in the side directions of tires and shall stand in the tread directions of the tires, 6m away from
the inflating valve.
(5) During inflation, there shall be pressure display meter convenient for operator to observe in
real time, the connection between the joint of the inflation pipeline and the inflating valve on
rim shall be safe and reliable, and it is recommended to use knob type joint.
2. Daily use and maintenance of tire
(1) In the use process of tire, ensure the balance of the drilling platform, and the load on each
tire cannot exceed the standard load.
(2) When the tire is used, measure tire pressure every 4 hours, the measured "hot" air pressure
of the tire cannot be 10% more than the "cold" air pressure of the tire, and if it exceeds the
specified value, it shows the overheat of the tire, stop to cool.

(3) When the tire is not used, disassemble tire, store it properly, and at this time, inflate the tire
with maintenance air pressure not more than 300Kpa.
(4) The service ambient temperature range of tire: -10℃ to +60℃.
