The explosion took place in the parking area of Gulshan Iqbal Park, just a
few feet away from some children's swings. The area was crowded at the
time because Christians were gathering to celebrate the Easter holiday.
The Taliban faction Jamaat-ul-Ahrar has claimed responsibility, saying it
was targeting Pakistan's Christian minority. Prime Minister David Cameron
has promised British help for Pakistan in the wake of the attack, while
Foreign Secretary Philip Hammond said British nationals were advised to
avoid the area and monitor local travel advice and local media. Many fa-
milies were leaving the park when the blast occurred. Muhammad Usman,
an administration official in Lahore, said the death toll had reached 65
people. "The rescue operation is continuing," he said, adding that more
than 50 children were among the injured.
Authorities in Mali say they have arrested two men in connection with an at-
tack by Islamic extremists in Ivory Coast that left at least 19 people dead this
month. Commandant Modibo Naman Traore, a spokesman for Malian intelli-
gence services, said Sunday that the two had been arrested in Goundam in nor-
thern Mali. One of the suspects was identified as the driver who brought the
men to Ivory Coast. Authorities identified the second man as his accomplice.
Already three men from Mali have been detained in Ivory Coast. The March 13
assault on Grand Bassam, a popular tourist destination just outside Abidjan,
was the third such attack in the last several months. Al-Qaida’s North Africa
branch claimed responsibility for the beach attack and assaults on hotels in
Mali and Burkina Faso.

One of the suicide bombers who blew themselves up at Brussels airport was the suspected bomb-maker
involved in November's Paris attacks, Belgian officials announced on Friday. The federal prosecutor con-
firmed that 24-year-old Najim Laachraoui was the bomber pictured on the left of a surveillance camera
image captured before the twin blasts rocked the departures area on Tuesday. He was pushing a luggage
trolley that contained a bomb hidden in a suitcase.Laachraoui is suspected of being the bomb-maker who
supplied devices for the Paris attacks on Nov. 13. The prosecutor also confirmed Friday that Laachraoui's
DNA was found on a suicide belt at the Bataclan music venue that was targeted by the terrorists along with
an explosive device at the Stade du France. His DNA was also recovered at several safe houses in Belgium
used by the cell. Laachraoui also used the false name Soufiane Kayal and was with suspected Paris attacker
Salah Abdeslam in Hungary in Sept. 2015, according to the prosecutor. U.S. and Belgian intelligence
sourcespreviously told NBC News that Laachraoui was believed to be among the Brussels suicide bombers,
but Friday was the first time his involvement in the attacks had been publicly acknowledged by officials.
