FORTS
• The six Hill Forts of Rajasthan, spread across
Rajasthan state in northern India, clustered together as
a designated UNESCO World Heritage Site. The forts
are mainly based in the Aravalli Range, and were built
and enhanced between the 8th and 18th centuries CE
by several Rajput kings of different kingdoms. They
comprise:

• Chittor Fort at Chittorgarh


• Kumbhalgarh Fort at Kumbhalgarh
• Ranthambore Fort at Sawai Madhopur
• Gagron Fort at Jhalawar
• Amer Fort at Jaipur
• Jaisalmer Fort at Jaisalmer
CHITTORGARH FORT
HISTORY

• Chittaurgarh was a former capital of the Sisodia Dynasty


of Mewar. Chittaurgarh is situated on the banks of river
Berach and Gambhiri.

• Initially, it was ruled by Guhilot and later by


Sisodias , from the 7th century. Emperor Akbar won
it in 1567 but finally abandoned in 1568. It is
scattered at a hill of 180 meter in height spread over
an area of 280 mt2.
KUMBHALGARH FORT
HISTORY
• Kumbhalgarh is located in the Rajsamand district of
Rajasthan .Its construction taken place with the help of
Rana Kumbha between AD 1443 and 1458 under the
supervision of famous architect Mandan.

• Rana Fateh Singh (1885-1930 AD), one of the


greatest builders of the time constructed Badal
Mahal inside the fort. Some prominent buildings
inside this fort are Kumbha Palace, Brahmanical
Badal Mahal,Jain Temples, water reservoirs,
chhattris etc. The great Maharana pratap was born
in this fort.
SAWAI MADHOPUR FORT(RANTHAMBORE)

• Ranthambore Fort lies within the Ranthambore


National Park, near the town of Sawai Madhopur. In
1299, Hammiradeva sheltered Muhammad Shah, a
rebel general of Sultan Ala ud din Khalji, and refused to
turn him over to the Sultan. The Sultan besieged and
conquered the fort in 1301.

• The fortress passed to the Kachwaha Maharajas of


Jaipur in the 17th century, and it remained part of
Jaipur state until Indian Independence. Jaipur state
acceded to India in 1949, becoming part of the state
of Rajasthan in 1950.

AMER FORT

• Amer Fort is a fort located in Amer, Rajasthan. Amer is


a town with an area of 4 square kilometres located 11
kilometres from Jaipur.

• The town of Amer was originally built by Meenas, and


later it was ruled by Raja Man Singh I. Amer Fort is
known for its artistic style elements. With its large
ramparts and series of gates and cobbled paths, the fort
overlooks Maota Lake.

• Man Singh, one of the first war chiefs or the trusted


general of the Emperor Akbar. Akbar included him
among the ‘Navaratnas'.

HISTORY

• Jaisalmer Fort is one of the largest fortifications in


the world. It is situated in the city of Jaisalmer in
Rajasthan. It is a World Heritage Site. It was
constructed by the Rajput ruler Rawal Jaisal in 1156.
Jaisalmer is an excellent example a hill fort in desert
location.

• It is believed to be one of the very few "living forts" in the


world , as nearly one fourth of the old city's population
still resides within the for.
