“There can be history only when there is change”

Change is the only constant thing in the world. There is no exception to such
phenomenon even history itself. On the other hand, history has been simply defined as
the study of the past. These two concepts are directly related to each other since the
former is the process on why an event become part of the concept of the latter.

In a more illustrative understanding of the statement “There can be history only

when there is change”, let us consider culture as an example. History offers a database
packed with information about how people and societies behave and culture is a way of
living of a group of people in a society. It encompasses beliefs, practices, religion,
norms, and many others that somehow changes over time because of society. What
may have been practiced or considered as a culture in a community during the past,
may not be the same in the present nor the future. Hence, the concept of change is
present to the process of making history.

To conclude, neither history does not merely change in becoming the present
nor does the present operate retrospectively on the past. But rather, the process where
they tend to follow very standard lines of development.
