DEPARTMENT: Architecture
SEMESTER: 1
INDICATIVE TIMESLOT: 10am – 1pm, 2pm – 5pm (Mon), and 1pm – 3pm (Fri)
UK LEVEL: 4
UK CREDITS: 20
PRE-REQUISITES AND NOTES: Students must submit a portfolio of work for academic consideration before registering on Architecture modules
The unit introduces key concepts and conveys applicable skills through a series of analytical and observational exercises, short design studies and projects. It focuses on investigating
DESCRIPTION OF MODULE
context, the use of precedent, and an understanding of space, scale, urban form and the human body.
DEPARTMENT: Architecture
SEMESTER: 1
UK LEVEL: 4
UK CREDITS: 20
PRE-REQUISITES AND NOTES: Students must submit a portfolio of work for academic consideration before registering on Architecture modules
DESCRIPTION OF MODULE The unit consists of speculative, strategic and critical design projects, which examine differentiated conditions (urban, rural, landscape) for architecture.
ARCHITECTURE 2017/18 SEMESTER 1 MODULES
DEPARTMENT: Architecture
SEMESTER: Year-Long (Student must be studying abroad for FULL academic year)
UK LEVEL: 4
UK CREDITS: 20
PRE-REQUISITES AND NOTES: Students must submit a portfolio of work for academic consideration before registering on Architecture modules
The module is an introduction to structures in architecture, the terminology describing these, and the principles underlying their design and behaviour. The major types of structure
DESCRIPTION OF MODULE and structural material are reviewed, together with an overview of the work of structural engineers, and the development of approaches to progressive modern engineering practice.
The second semester is an introduction to the principles and practice of constructional and environmental technology in small and medium sized buildings.

UK CREDITS: 20
PRE-REQUISITES AND NOTES: Students must submit a portfolio of work for academic consideration before registering on Architecture modules
This introductory course in architectural history and theory provides an outline of key concepts, buildings, cities, movements and personalities in the world of architecture. The two
DESCRIPTION OF MODULE component module runs across the whole year. The focus in the first semester is on a historical survey of architecture, and in the second semester on cities and themes of urban
interpretation.
ARCHITECTURE 2017/18 SEMESTER 1 MODULES
DEPARTMENT: Architecture
SEMESTER: 1
UK LEVEL: 4
UK CREDITS: 20
PRE-REQUISITES AND NOTES: Students must submit a portfolio of work for academic consideration before registering on Architecture modules
This module comprises an introduction to techniques of two- and three- dimensional visual communication, including drawing, model making, digital and experimental media and
DESCRIPTION OF MODULE
to encourage students to apply these techniques equally to their design processes and representation.
DEPARTMENT: Architecture
SEMESTER: 1
UK LEVEL: 5
UK CREDITS: 20
PRE-REQUISITES AND NOTES: Students must submit a portfolio of work for academic consideration before registering on Architecture modules
This module draws upon references from contemporary arts practice and individual experimentation with a range of digital and analogue media. Students undertake design projects
DESCRIPTION OF MODULE with an expanded understanding of context from a physical to a wider, systemic and cultural notion, which is addressed through the design of an object or installation presented in a
final design event.
ARCHITECTURE 2017/18 SEMESTER 1 MODULES
DEPARTMENT: Architecture
SEMESTER: 1 and 2
UK LEVEL: 5
UK CREDITS: 20
PRE-REQUISITES AND NOTES: Students must submit a portfolio of work for academic consideration before registering on Architecture modules
DESCRIPTION OF MODULE Students are invited to investigate the relationship between site, programme, and architectural concepts through the design of enclosing structures.

SEMESTER: Year-Long (Student must be studying abroad for FULL academic year)
UK LEVEL: 5
UK CREDITS: 20
PRE-REQUISITES AND NOTES: Students must submit a portfolio of work for academic consideration before registering on Architecture modules
The unit investigates building technology from small to large buildings through precedent studies, thus aiding students in identifying and formulating the technological principles to

ARCHITECTURE 2017/18 SEMESTER 1 MODULES
DEPARTMENT: Architecture
SEMESTER: 1
UK LEVEL: 5
UK CREDITS: 20
PRE-REQUISITES AND NOTES: Students must submit a portfolio of work for academic consideration before registering on Architecture modules
The unit aims to expand students’ understanding of digital tools in architecture from means of representation to genuine design, as well as to familiarise them with skills and
DESCRIPTION OF MODULE workflows typically applied from an early conceptual design stage to final design solution and architectural visualization. Through the use of design as integrative activity, it aims to
ground digital design in its appropriate theoretical and historic context.
DEPARTMENT: Architecture
SEMESTER: 1
UK LEVEL: 6
UK CREDITS: 20
PRE-REQUISITES AND NOTES: Students must submit a portfolio of work for academic consideration before registering on Architecture modules
This module introduces students to the urban context, and develops an understanding of the physical, social and economic surroundings which architecture has to deal with. It will
DESCRIPTION OF MODULE consist of two parts; Firstly group analysis work, focusing upon observing, interpreting and describing the urban context. Secondly, individual design work, with the aim of positively
influencing the complex urban relationships observed. It introduces students to the themes and scope of the year’s design investigations.
ARCHITECTURE 2017/18 SEMESTER 1 MODULES
DEPARTMENT: Architecture
SEMESTER: 1
UK LEVEL: 6
UK CREDITS: 20
PRE-REQUISITES AND NOTES: Students must submit a portfolio of work for academic consideration before registering on Architecture modules
This module develops an understanding of the spatial organisation and form of buildings and how they interact with their context. Students will be asked to investigate an area of
the city, building upon the skills they have developed in their previous design project. This research should inform an area of interest, which will be used to generate a brief. Students
DESCRIPTION OF MODULE will then select one of the sites proposed by the studio tutors, and develop their design for the site, responding to both the context and to the building programme. The final proposal
should address the spatial arrangement of the building within its context, as well as the spatial arrangement within the building, and aims to develop an understanding of the
relationship between these. The module enables students to become aware of design approaches, ideas and methodologies for the final design project 303.
