Introduction
When we have pain in any part of our body, our first instinct is to massage or press
that particular part and it generally gives us relief. This is the basic principle on
which acupressure works, press the pain away. Using these principles, many health
issues are easily taken care of, from simple cold, cough, fever to complicated
problems like asthma, blood pressure and diabetes amongst many others.
Acupressure involves applying pressure with the tip of the thumb or index finger.
The best time for acupressure is from 6:00am to 8:00am or between 6:00pm to
8:00pm, when the yin and yang energies are balanced. It may however be done at
any time when the stomach is not very full.
We can cure and prevent many diseases by just pressing the correct pressure
points twice a day regularly. Each finger represents our whole body. The top
most phalange represents the face, the next represents the chest and the lower
most represents the abdomen.

Eye fatigue
Constant use of smart phones,
laptops and other devices lead to
eye fatigue. To get relief from eye
fatigue and conjunctivitis, apply
gentle pressure to the two points
located at the right and left side of
your thumb’s knuckles. Hold for five
seconds and repeat eight times.
Try to do it at least two times a day.
Increase in energy
Stretch your hand out and find the point
on the back of your arm, almost three
finger widths below the spot where
your wrist bends. Look for a soft spot
between the tendons and bones of your
wrist and apply pressure. This helps in
increasing your energy levels, balancing
and also strengthening your immune
system.
Cold and cough
On the outer side of the thumb, press
the point below the thumb nail. It is
called the lung meridian which runs
along the side of your hand ending
just beneath the crease of your wrist.
Pressing on these points helps in
increasing the wind energy in the
lungs and breathing becomes easier.
It may help in relieving cold
symptoms like blocked nose and
ears, sore throat and sinus.
Headaches
The point for headaches is located
between the base of your thumb and
index finger. Using your right thumb
and index finger, find the space
between the base of your left thumb
and index finger of your left hand.
Press this point for five minutes using
a circular motion. Be firm, but don’t
press hard that it hurts. Repeat the
process on your right hand. This
pressure point helps in relieving pain
and headaches.
Nausea and stomach pain
Stretch your hand out as if you are
receiving a gift, with both wrists
touching each other. Find the point
around three centimetres, in the
middle, from where your wrists were
touching. Firmly massage this point
with your thumb, it can help
in improving your digestion and
relieving from nausea or stomach
pain.
Relief from day to
day stress
You can easily get rid of day to day stress
in a few minutes by applying pressure on
the correct wrist point. This is located on
your wrist in line with the little finger.
Apply pressure on a regular basis to heal
stress and improve your emotional
health.
Sleep related issues
Feel for the small, hollow space in
the crease on your outer wrist,
below your pinkie finger. At this
point, apply gentle pressure in a
circular or up-and-down movement
for two to three minutes. Hold the
left side of the point with gentle
pressure for a few seconds, and
then hold the right side. Repeat on
the same area of your other wrist.
Stimulating this pressure point helps
quieting your mind, which helps you
fall asleep.
Hair growth
You can also stimulate hair
growth with acupressure. Press
the point which is exactly one
millimetre to the corner of the
nail of the index finger (towards
the thumb). You can press that
particular point for about two to
three minutes once every day.
Neck/Shoulder pain
With your thumb or index finger, apply
gentle pressure on the point located in
the tendons between fourth and fifth
fingers. Massage this point on both the
hands two to three times in a day for
two minutes. With this, you will
experience faster relief in neck pain
and shoulder pain.
Digestion related issues –
Gastric pain/Acidity/Constipation
This pressure point is located
at the end of the index finger near
the web of the thumb and index
finger, almost on the bone. Press
while breathing in and release while
breathing out. Press and release
this point regularly as it is very
powerful for those with gas
problems. Digestion wind energy in
the stomach meridian and provides
relief from digestive issues.
