LEARNING PLAN
August 30, 2019
Subject: Mathematics 9 Grade Level: Nine
Teacher: Mr. Edrian Peter B. Villanueva

Content Standard:
The learner demonstrates understanding of key concepts of rational algebraic expressions.

Performance Standard:
The learner is able to investigate thoroughly mathematical relationships in various situations formulate
real-life problems involving rational algebraic expressions, and solve them using variety of strategies.

I. Objectives:
At the end of the lesson, the students will be able to:
1. Recognize the different types of variations
2. Ascertain the relationships between two quantities as to direct or inverse
3. Translate statements that involve variations
4. Identify equations that involve quantities that vary directly; inversely
5. Solve problems involving variations including real-life situations

II. Subject Matter

A. Topic: Applications of Rational Equations - Variations
B. Time Frame: One meeting
C. References: Pantoja, S.P., & San Juan, S.A. Interactive Mathematics Grade 9. Innovative
Educational Materials Inc.: Manila, Philippines
Malvar, J.M. et al., 2016. Mathematics for the 21st Century Learner, Diwa

D. Materials: Computer, Monitor, Chalk, Board, Workbook

III. Methodology
A. Priming/Motivation/Recall
Give students a problem that involves direct variation and inverse variation. Allow them
to define the direct and inverse variation using the problem.
B. Lesson Proper
1. Allow them to compare and contrast the equations and answer from two problems
based on their descriptions of the two variables. (use time as the independent variable
x)
2. Introduce the true definition of direct and inverse variation.
3. Ask students to work with a partner. Using the think-pair-share method, ask them to
given their own examples of variables that involve direct and inverse variation.
4. Discuss how to solve equations involving direct and inverse variations. Explicate the
ways of solving for the constant of variations. Give exercises as necessary.
5. Call for volunteers that will answer the exercises on the board.
6. Determine the common mistakes of the learners and teach them how to correct
themselves.
C. Valuing
The students will realize the importance of analysing the situations and studying patterns.
IV. Assessment
A. Formative
 Exercises will be given. Topic 3.1 and Topic 3.2 Variations
B. Summative
The students will be given teacher-made quiz.
V. Assignment/Agreement
Students will have advanced reading on joint variation and combination of different
variations.
