COURSE SYLLABUS
Course Name EL 103 Preparation of Language Learning Materials Development
Course Credits 3 Units
Course Description: This course is designed to equip the students on how to prepare and evaluate instructional materials and
familiarized with them the different types of instructional materials and use them in teaching. This will also
provide an experience on how to prepare Strategic Intervention Materials (SIM) for a specific skill in English
and a Multimedia Instructional Material (MIM) which is the modern way of presenting the lesson using the
advance technology. Likewise, this can also help the students realize the importance in selecting instructional
materials in teaching based from its guiding principles.
Contact Hours/Week Prerequisites 54 hrs.
Course Objectives A. General: To be able to develop students’ creativity in the preparation of instructional materials and
likewise hone their ability to asses and evaluate materials to be used in teaching.
B. Specific Objectives:
1. State the meaning of instructional materials and its importance in teaching
2. Enumerate and discuss the different instructional materials in every learning activity
3. Identify the different parts of instructional materials
4. Describe the ideal teacher or the quality teacher
5. Identify the different graphic organizer applicable in teaching English
6. Discuss the guiding principles in the selection of materials
7. Make instructional materials that can be used in teaching English
8. Prepare and evaluate Multimedia Instructional Material (MIM) and Strategic Intervention
Material (SIM) in any lesson in English
