CONCEPT NOTE

1. Proposed Title: Anxiety and Stress Problems among Undergraduate and

Postgraduate Students.

2. Tentative Statement of Problem: To study the anxiety and stress related problems

among undergraduate and postgraduate students.

3. Review of Literature :

Archana Kumari, Jagrati Jain (2014) has conducted a study to know the examinations

stress felt by college students under Arts, Science and Commerce stream of education.

Further comparison was done to find out the level of stress felt by college students enrolled in

under graduate and post graduate programmes. The sample consisted of 90 college students

drawn using stratified random sampling method from two girls colleges. A questionnaire was

developed by the researcher to access examination stress and anxiety among college students.

The result shows correlation between examination stress and anxiety of college students. On

comparing the stress and anxiety among students of different stream, the students of Arts was

found having highest stress and anxiety during examination followed by commerce

students.There was no significant difference found in the stress and anxiety level of

undergraduate and postgraduate students.

Rajasekar (2013) the study examined the impact of academic stress among the

management students. Stress management encompasses techniques to equip a person with

effective coping mechanisms for dealing with psychological stress. Students have different

expectations, goals and values that they want to fulfill, which is only possible if they are

integrated with that of the institution. The objective of the study is to find out the present

level of stress, sources of stress and stress management techniques that would be useful for

management students. The study takes into account various criteria like physical,
psychological, individual, demographical and environmental factors of stress among the

management students. Blumberg and Flaherty (1985) found an inverse relationship between

self-reported stress level and academic performance.

Marwan Zaid Bataineh (2013) the study investigated the academic stressors

experienced by the students at university. A total sample of 232 subjects participated in this

study were obtained from faculty of education at KSU. The result showed that academic

overloads, course awkward, inadequate time to study, workload every semester, exams

awkward, low motivation, and high family expectations were drive moderately stress among

students. It was also found that fear of failure is the major source of stress among

undergraduate students. Lastly, the study found that there were no significant differences in

academic stress among students with different, level of study and specializations.
