First of all, I would like to express my gratitude to Almighty Allah to enabling us

to complete this report on “ROUGHTER CRANE KATO SR-700L UNIT
MAINTENANCE AND LIFTING CAPACITY”. Without His mercy on the
strength and health that He lend to us, I would disable to finish this internship
program and couldn’t make it to the report

Without any help from those who involved in this internship program and make it
happen to this report, there will be none of these words can be spoken. I have also
taken help from different people for the preparation of this report. Now, there is a
little effort to show my deep gratitude to that helpful person.

I convey my sincere gratitude to my Faculty Supervisor for the internship program

Dr. Farid Triawan for helping me to finish this internship program and helping me
to manage the report until this far. Without his kind direction and proper guidance
this study would have been a little success. In every phase of the project his
supervision and guidance shaped this report to be completed perfectly.

I also want to acknowledge my Field Supervisor from PT. Cipta Krida Bahari
(CKB) Pak Abib Yudianto, Pak Setyawan, and Pak Amri for letting me had the
experience here and learned many things that I didn’t get inside the class. Without
their patient and intense direction, this internship program would have been a lot
harder.

My special thanks also go to Mbak Inne, Mbak Endang, Mbak Ulin, and Mbak
Nila for having me in the office and letting me helped, even though it is just small
help but I was having fun with all of you during the internship. Even though I was
just an internee in a short period of time, I was threaded like a close friend of
yours and it becomes a pleasure for me.

Last but not least, I would never forget to thanks my family and colleagues to
always supporting me with the prayer and encouragement during the internship
until it finished.

CHAPTER I

INTRODUCTION

1.1 Background

As one of the Indonesia government’s programs, the industrialization in

nearly every sector is increased and become a major focus to boost the economic

growth of the country. Logistic & warehousing is one important area that can

affects the productivity of an industry to make the production line become

efficient and profitable. Heavy equipment such as crane, forklift, trailer & flatbed

truck, etc. is commonly owned by almost every logistic & warehousing company

to support the needs. Therefore, the availability of those equipment is important

since without them the production process might not be running well.

PT. Cipta Krida Bahari (CKB) is a logistic & warehousing service

provider company that is committed to make it easier for businesses in Indonesia

to deliver their goods and services to where they are needed. For detail, CKB’s

services are including freight management, project logistics, warehouse

management, bonded logistic center, remote site/supply base services, port

management, industrial shipping, and dry bulk logistics.

Roughter Crane KATO SR-700L is one of the heavy equipment units that

is owned by PT. CKB Bojonegoro. As many common cranes, it uses hydraulic

mechanism to move the boom and the jib. It is used to support lifting activity of

various materials and needs that have load under 70 tons. The usual material that

need to be lifted by this unit is Pipes, Container, Tank, and other objects that have

load under 70 tons. By understanding the parts and the way it works, the

appropriate maintenance can be done as a part of safety prevention of the unit

error during the working.

Lifting specification or lifting capacity of the crane unit depends on the

lifted load, the boom length, and radius of working. Moreover, the length of the

outriggers also affects the capacity of the lifted load. lifting specification is very

important to maximize the working capability of the unit, avoid unit failure while

lifting an object, and reduce potential safety harness around the unit.

Internship activity is part of curriculum of the Mechanical Engineering

program in Sampoerna University. As part of degree requirement, the student has

to gain a field experience through an internship program. The student is expected

to spend minimum a month (200 hours) in a company under guidance of a

supervisor from the industry. Through the internship program, the student is

intended to have a field experience and to prepare for professional working

environment in industry. In conclusion, the student can relate the knowledges and

skills gained from the class and then demonstrate into the real-world application.

1.2 Scope Field

The internship program is focused on the maintenance of the Roughter

Crane KATO SR-700L unit and evaluating its lifting capacity in PT. CKB

Bojonegoro. In order to make the analysis simpler and easier, the unit load and the

main boom load is treated as uniform body. The hook block load and the material

lifted is treated as normal concentrated load.

1.3 Objectives

The objectives of the internship are described as follow:

1. To gain knowledge of how does a Roughter Crane KATO SR-700L unit

works and the way to do the maintenance properly by knowing each vital

part.

2. To understand the lifting capacity for the following specification:

a. Boom length 10m & working radius 7 m with outriggers fully

extended at 7.6 m

b. Boom length 44.5 m & working radius 4.5 m with outriggers fully

extended at 7.6 m

c. Boom length 44.5 m & working radius 12 m with outriggers fully

extended at 7.6 m

d. Boom length 44.5 m & working radius 33 m with outriggers fully

extended at 7.6 m

1.4 Benefits

There are some benefits from the internship program as follow:

1.4.1 For the Student

a. Be able to apply the knowledge that gained in the class

b. Get new experience through a real field working and to get a clear

understanding of the gained knowledge in the field

c. To measure student’s skill toward the industry prospect.

d. To know in common about the knowledge of heavy equipment unit

maintenance

1.4.2 For Sampoerna University

a. Creating a well-skilled, discipline, and responsible student to be placed

in the industry after graduated.

b. As a medium to promote Sampoerna University to industries

1.4.3 For the Industry

a. As a medium between Sampoerna University and PT. Cipta Krida

Bahari (CKB) to create a partnership relation

b. Supporting to finish the task that the industry has.

1.5 Methodology

All the data that is used to make this report are coming from these

following references:

a. Library Research (data collecting from literatures), the literature

sources are coming from manual book, specification catalog, manual

service, book, document form the internet, etc.

b. Field Research (field observation), this is needed to obtain the

necessary data by these following ways:

1. Interview, it can be done by approaching the crane unit operators,

the mechanics, and the supervisor as well as lifting director to get

the necessary data by interviewing them.

2. Observation, through field activity involvement the field

observation can be carried out to complete the necessary data.

1.6 Organization of the Report

This report is organized as follow:

CHAPTER I INTRODUCTION

Background, scope field, objective, benefit, and

organization of the report will be included in this chapter.

CHAPTER II COMPANY PROFILE

A brief explanation about the company will be explain in

this chapter.

CHAPTER III LITERATURE REVIEW

In this chapter, the theory related to the topic that is raised

will be displayed, which are crane working principle and

the lifting equipment (spreader bar) analysis.

CHAPTER IV UNIT MAINTENANCE

This chapter will discuss about the part of the crane unit

including the explanation and the function of each parts.

Moreover, the proper maintenance for each vital part also

will be included.

CHAPTER V STATICS ANALYSIS OF LIFTING CAPACITY OF

THE UNIT

The topic that will be discussed in this chapter is about the

lifting capacity of the Roughter Crane Kato SR-700L unit

to the length of the boom and working radius using statics

analysis and the factors that affecting.

CHAPTER VI CONCLUSION AND ADVICE

At last, it will contain the conclusion and advices from the

whole internship activity.
