Scale Structure

FPID-5 Facet-Level Scale Structure. An initial Principal Components factor analysis (PCAs) with

varimax rotation and Kaiser Normalization based on eigenvalues greater than 1 and the scree

plot suggested a three-factor structure. The three-factor structure is illustrated in Table 1. The In

the three-factor structure, Negative Affectivity and Disinhibition clustered in the first factor,

Antagonism and one facet of Psychoticism clustered in the second factor, while Detachment

and two facets of Psychoticism clustered in the second factor.

The first factor, Negative Affectivity-Disinhibition, was characterized by loadings on

subscales such as Anxiousness, Emotional Lability, Impulsivity, Distractibility, Separation

Insecurity, and Irresponsibility. The second factor, Antagonism, was characterized by loadings

on subscales such as Manipulativeness, Deceitfulness, Grandiosity, and Psychoticism. The

third factor, Psychoticism-Detachment, was characterized by loadings on subscales such as

Withdrawal, Intimacy Avoidance, Anhedonia, Eccentricity, and Perceptual Dysregulation. While

Anhedonia (factor loading=.50), Eccentricity (factor loading=.48), and Perceptual Dysregulation

(factor loading=.54) having secondary loadings on the Negative Affectivity-Disinhibition factor.

The loadings range from .50 (Anxiousness) to .83 (Perceptual Dysregulation), the three-factor

structure has a cumulative percentage of 63.63% of the variances explained. Take note that the

Unusual Beliefs and Experiences facet obtained a primary loading on Antagonism and a

secondary loading on Psychoticism-Detachment, with factor loadings of .58 and .50

respectively.

A secondary PCA factor analysis of the data with varimax rotation and Kaiser

Normalization based on a five-factor extraction yielded a result with the tri-facets loading on its

expected categories, with an exception of Anhedonia with a primary loading on Detachment but

having a secondary loading on Disinhibition.

Table 2 illustrates the five-factor structure of the FPID-5. The first factor, Disinhibition

was characterized by loadings on Impulsivity, Irresponsibility, and Distractibility. The second

factor, Antagonism was characterized by loadings on Manipulativeness, Deceitfulness, and

Grandiosity. The third factor, Psychoticism was characterized by loadings on Unusual Beliefs

and Experiences, Eccentricity, and Perceptual Dysregulation. The fourth factor, Negative

Affectivity was characterized by loadings on Anxiousness, Separation Insecurity, and Emotional

Lability. The fifth factor, Detachment was characterized by loadings on Intimacy Avoidance,

Withdrawal, and Anhedonia. The loadings range from .62 (Anhedonia) to .91

(Manipulativeness), the five-factor structure has a cumulative percentage of 75.74% of the

variances explained.

MAPA Facet-level Scale Structure.

FPID-5 and Masaklaw na Panukat ng Loob (Mapa ng Loob) Facet-Level Scale Structure. The

preliminary PCA joint factor analysis with varimax rotation and Kaiser Normalization based on

eigenvalues greater than 1 suggested a seven-factor structure, while the scree plot indicated a

distinctive five-factor structure. The seven-factor has a cumulative percentage of 69.11% of the

variances explained. Conscientiousness and Disinhibition loaded on the first factor (average

loading=|.73|); Neuroticism and Negative Affectivity loaded on the second factor (average

loading=|.69|); Extraversion and Detachment loaded on the third factor (average loading=|.69|),

Agreeableness loaded on the fourth factor (average loading=.72); Psychoticism and Original

Thinking facet loaded on the fifth factor (average loading=.69); Antagonism loaded on the sixth

factor (average loading=.72); and Openness loaded on the seventh factor (average

loading=.71).

Secondary loadings of five facets were noted. Temperamentalness had a negative

secondary loading on Agreeableness (factor loading=-.47), Withdrawal on Psychoticism (factor

loading=.41), Pagkamasigla on Conscientiousness-Disinhibition (factor loading=.41), Unusual

Beliefs and Experiences on Antagonism (factor loading=.40), and Original Thinking on

Openness (factor loading=.42). Table 3 illustrates the seven-factor structure of the FPID-5 and

Mapa.

Due to the distinctive five-factor structure shown on the scree plot, a succeeding PCA

joint factor analysis with varimax rotation and Kaiser Normalization based on a five-factor

extraction yielded a result with the big five factors and the FPID-5 factors converging on its

expected categories, except for Aesthetic Sensitivity facet which did not load on any of the

factors. The five-factor structure has a cumulative percentage of 62.32% of the variances

explained.

The first factor is a combination of Neuroticism and Negative Affectivity (factor loading

range=|.56 to .80|), Conscientiousness and Disinhibition on the second factor (factor loading

range=|.58 to .80|), Extraversion and Detachment on the third factor (factor loading range=|.57

to .80|), Agreeableness and Antagonism on the fourth factor (factor loading range=|.56 to .70|),

Psychoticism and Openness on the fifth factor (factor loading range=|.47 to .72|). Secondary

loadings for Antagonism facet on the Psychoticism-Openness factor emerged (factor

loading=.46), Imaginativeness facet on the Neuroticism-Negative Affectivity factor (factor

loading=.44), and Intellectual Curiosity facet on the Conscientiousness-Disinhibition factor

(factor loading=.46). Table 4 illustrates the five-factor structure.

However, majority of the existing literature suggests a six-factor structure, with

Openness and Psychoticism domains as divergent factors (De Fruyt et al., 2013; Adhiatma et

al., 2014). Thus, a PCA joint factor analysis based on a six-factor extraction was performed.

The six-factor solution has a cumulative percentage of 62.32% of the variance explained.

Neuroticism and Negative Affectivity loaded on the first factor (factor loading range=.56 to .81),

Conscientiousness and Disinhibition loaded on the second factor (factor loading range=|.60 to

.83|), Extraversion and Detachment loaded on the third factor (factor loading range=|.60 to .81|),
Agreeableness and Deceitfulness facet loaded on the fourth factor (factor loading range=|.60 to

.83|), Psychoticism and Antagonism loading on the fifth factor (factor loading range=.58 to .82),

and Openness loaded on the sixth factor (factor loading range=.75 to .65).

Secondary loadings on five facets were observed in the six-factor structure, Distractibility

on Neuroticism-Negative Affectivity (factor loading=.40), Withdrawal on Psychoticism-

Antagonism (factor loading=.41), Energy on Conscientiousness-Disinhibition (factor

loading=.40), Manipulativeness and Grandiosity loading negatively on Agreeableness, with

factor loadings of -.48 and -.51 respectively. Table 5 illustrates the six-factor structure.
