PRONOUN POINTERS

Pronouns are words that take the place of nouns.

(Sometimes, we don’t want to use a noun, so we use a pronoun.)
Ex: Mark is in the kitchen. He is cooking.
 Personal subject pronoun: I, you, they, we, he, she, it.
Ex: Mark doesn’t like me.
 Personal object pronouns: : me, you, them, us, him, her, it.
Ex: Is that David’s car?/ No, it is mine.
 Possessive pronouns: mine, yours, theirs, ours, his, hers.

Polite pronouns.
(It is considered polite to get yourself second.)
Ex: “I and you are going to the greatest lake in Indonesia.” to make it sounds polite “You and
I are going to the greatest lake in Indonesia.”

The obquitos you.

Because of the overused the word you, we should be more careful in formal writing. The word
you should really mean “the reader”.
Ex:
 Informal: “If you’re late for school, you’ll get in trouble.”
 Formal: “Students who are late for school will get in trouble.”
 Informal: “You have to pay taxes when you grow up.”
 Formal: “All people have to pay taxes when they grow up.”
