Latin Dance Competition

Guidelines & Criteria

1. All competing couples should be bonafide students of SMCHLI


2. Every team shall have 2 competing couples.
3. Names of the competing couples shall be submitted to the chairman of the Latin Dance
Competition not later than 2 days before the day of the competition.
4. Competing couple must be at the venue at least 1 hour before the start of the competition
for final instructions.
5. A pair shall dance the following Latin Dances: CHA-CHA-CHA, RUMBA, SAMBA and JIVE
6. The management shall provide the music for the contestant
7. There will be only one round of competition.
8. The music played shall be a minimum of one (1) and a half (1/2) or 1.5 minutes duration
for every discipline.
9. The judging of a couple starts when the music plays and ends when the music stops.
10. Strictly, lifts are not permitted in all category. A lift is any movement during which one
member of a couple has both feet off the floor at the same time with assistance of the
other partner.
11. Competing couple must be in proper attire with the assigned number pinned at the back
of the male partner.
12. All couples must be dressed appropriately with the following dress rules:

Ladies:
 Must follow the universal Latin Dance sport outfit.
 Shoes: Comfortable high-heeled shoes.
 Hairstyle and Make up: Must be presentable.

Gentlemen:
 Black trousers, black shirt/long sleeved or any cored top.
 The shirt or top has to be tucked in. No sleeveless are allowed.
 Shoes: Comfortable leather shoes (not flat shoes).
 Hairstyle: Short and clean hairstyle is preferred. No hair décor or colored hairspray.
13. A judge is under no obligation to justify his/her marks to competing couples.

POSTURE, SHAPE AND POISE 20 POINTS
TOGETHERNESS, LINE HOLD BALANCE 20 POINTS
FOOTWORK AND LEG POWER 20 POINTS
INTANGIBLES (Visual Impact) 15 POINTS
TOTAL 100 P0INTS
