Abstract

We have made the water alarm in order to minimize the water

consumption of a certain place. This thing is really helpful for us for it alarms

whenever the water reaches the point where it almost overflows from the

container. We have found out that a lot of homes are having high water bills and

the main cause of this problem is water leakage and overflowing water. We

made a study on how to solve this problem and we came up into a certain idea

which is to make an overflowing water alarm. We would like to help our beloved

mothers for they are really busy and doing multiple tasks and especially our

mother nature and continue to preserve water with our simple product to ensure

our beautiful future and to help the next generations live without any problems

of having difficulties in water. In this product we will be able to minimize the

water consumption of a place for we have done or make it succesfully. The

product does not requires you a lot of time to find the materials for you can

easily make it even with just some recycled items.

The basic components of this product so you can make it are: a piece of

wood, batteries, a simple bell, and wires. With this materials you will be able to

make the alarm and modify it using your imagination with different styles of how

to make it sound or any adjustments for different situations. We indeed made a

successful product for it is proven effective as we observed it. Our product also

adapts in different situation whenever have problems in power usage you can

decide on what way you can use it, for it can be used through batteries and

through direct power source.

CHAPTER I

THE PROBLEM AND ITS SCOPE

Rationale

The overflowing water detector is an electronic device that sounds an

alarm when its sensor is in contact with water. The device sounds an audible

alarm together with providing onward signaling in the presence of enough water

that activates the bike indicator buzzer. It can be used near water heaters,

washing machines, bathtubs, toilets and dishwashers. It is a device that is

designed to provide an alert in time to allow the prevention of water damage.

This is a device that really helps us humans and our mother nature.

This product is sufficient and convenient for everybody especially for our

beloved mothers who are usually multi-tasking chores. Why? Because our

product produces a sound which is louder than the water flowing and

overflowing but still efficient for the hearing. The steel cup produces 40 Hz which

is still good for the hearing because an average hearing frequency that a human

can handle is up to 40 KHz. All of the organisms found here on earth especially

us humans need water in order to survive for “water is life”.

This alarm determines if water is high so we can turn it off and save

water. Water is what the world needs which means people need it much, if the

people use our product we can save a lot of water which is very helpful for us

and the incoming generations.

Statement of the Problem

General Objective:

To minimize the water consumption of a certain place and to help conserve

water for our future and other generations.

Specific Objective:

To let the people know if the water bucket or any container is almost full of

water.

Hypothesis:

The overflowing water detector can help us determine if the water is almost full

from any container that is used, also conserve water for our future of the world.
Significance of the Study

The study of water alarm clock can be a learning paradigm in the

secondary level and vocational schools to enhance the students’ knowledge and

entrepreneurial skills as well. The project’s goal is designed to help students

improve academic competence, develop employability skills, implement a product

that can help save mother earth in preparation for postsecondary education or

careers in the reducing water consumption or overflowing of water and how our

earth is clinically depending on it after graduating from high school.

Definition of Terms

Postsecondary Education: Refers to those whose highest level of educational

attainment is an apprenticeship or trades certificate or diploma.

Clinically: In a way that relates to the observation and treatment of actual

patients rather than theoretical or laboratory studies.

Water-Intensives :( e.g., large-scale solar) and a few are just plain dumb

(e.g., shale oil).

Overflowing: When a liquid overflows, it flows over the edges of a container,

etc. because there is too much of it.

Multi-Tasking: The simultaneous execution of multiple tasks (programs) under

the control of an interrupt-driven operating system. (Buzzword, figuratively) The

practice or capability of handling more than one task at the same time.

Water consumption: is defined as the freshwater taken from ground or

surface water sources, either permanently or temporarily, and conveyed to the

place of use. If the water is returned to a surface water source, abstraction of

the same water by the downstream user is counted again in compiling total

abstractions.

Systematic: Done or acting according to a fixed plan or system; methodical.

Waterworks: An establishment for managing a water supply.

Pipe: A tube of metal, plastic, or other material used to convey water, gas, oil,

or other fluid substances.

Conserved: Prevent the wasteful or harmful overuse of (a resource).

Paradigm: A typical example or pattern of something; a model.

Water Supply: Is the provision of water by public utilities commercial

organizations, community endeavors or by individuals, usually via a system of

pumps and pipes. Irrigation is covered separately.

Inefficient: not achieving maximum productivity; wasting or failing to make the

best use of time or resources.

CHAPTER II

REVIEW OF RELATED LITERATURE

Related Literature

Household water use is usually the most important part of municipal water

use, because it accounts for over half of the total municipal water use in many

countries. It usually requires high water quality and reliability which leads to high

cost. Residential water use is also directly linked to the general public health.

Improving the health of the poor is one of the main goals of water and sanitation

projects. Therefore, household water use is always the top priority in the

municipal water supply.

Water Supply and Sanitation in the Philippines

Water supply is the process of providing water in a systematic way

through installed pumps and pipe lines. Before water is provided to a specific

area, it undergoes a process called sanitation to ensure that the quality of water

received is safe for human consumption. The Philippines’ water supply system

dates back to 1946 after the country achieved its independence. Government

agencies, local institutions, non-government organizations, and other

corporations are primarily in charge in the operation and administration of water

supply and sanitation in the country.

Water Use

28.52 billion M³ of water was withdrawn from various sources in the

Philippines in 2000: 74% (21.10 billion m³) was used for agricultural purposes,

9% (2.57 billion m³) for industrial processes, and 17% (4.85 billion m³) for

domestic consumption.

Agricultural

Agricultural water management in the Philippines primarily focuses on the

subject of irrigation. The country has 3.126 million hectares of irrigable land,

50% (1.567 million hectares) of which already has irrigation facilities. 50% of

irrigated areas are developed and operated by the government through the

National Irrigation System (NIS). 36% is developed by the government and

operated by irrigators’ associations through the Communal Irrigation System,

while the remaining 14% is developed and operated by individual or small

groups of farmers through a Private Irrigation System (PIS).

Industrial

The use of water for industrial purposes include the "utilization of water in

factories, industrial plants and mines, and the use of water as an ingredient of a

finished product. “Industries that are found to be water-intensive are involved in

the manufacturing of food and dairy, pulp and chemical products, and textile

materials. These industries are usually found in the National Capital Region,

CALABARZON, and Region III. In a study by the United Nations Industrial

Development Organization (UNIDO) in 1999, the intensive use of water in

industry is critical in terms of the production of hazardous wastes. Thousands of

tons solvent wastes, heavy metals, lubricants, and intractable wastes are

improperly disposed of annually in Metro Manila.

Domestic

According to a study by David and Inocencio, the medium of water

provision is dependent on the income class of a certain household. Higher

income brackets usually rely on private waterworks as a source of water, while

lower income brackets usually consume less by depending on vended water (sold

by those who have access to private waterworks).

Levels of Water Systems

According to a 2005 World Bank study, approximately 5,000 service

providers exist in the Philippines. Most of them only provide water, while

sanitation is still expected to be a private responsibility. The water infrastructure

provided is classified into three levels.

Levels of water systems in the Philippines
