Historical Background of SMCC’s

College of Teacher Education

Saint Michael College of Caraga aims to produce graduates who have competent level
of teaching efficiency, live-out their faith and practice, moral values and technologically skilled,
scientifically trained and socially trained and socially responsible individuals. Saint Michael
College of Caraga will ensure that students will develop both the skills that a sound education
provides and the competencies essential for success and leadership in the emerging creative
economy.

College of Teacher Education (CTE) refers to the policies, procedures, and provision
designed to equip (prospective) teachers with the knowledge, attitudes, behaviors, and skills
they require to perform their tasks effectively in the classroom, school, and wider community.

Thus, SMCC open the program of the College of Teacher Education with the
provision of Commission on Higher Education (CHED) that aims to equip the students with
skills and competencies to: meet the needs of professional teachers for elementary and
secondary schools; apply the knowledge of and interest in the principles, science and skill for
the improvement of life.

In the year 2005, College of Teacher Education was realized in SMCC and had a
population of only nine (9) students on Bachelor of Secondary Education (BSEd) and
Bachelor of Elementary Education (BEEd). And on 2009, the school open the bundle
program of Php5,900.00 for the College of Teacher Education and the population increases.
Since then, Saint Michael College of Caraga has continuing increasing in enrollment and
increasing percentage of passing rate and above national percent in the Professional Regulation
Commission (PRC). On 2015, a Bachelor of Elementary Education graduate student of SMCC
named Icee Galinato rank at Top 4 in the Licensure Examination for Teachers (LET).

As SMCC will continue its excellency, the school open the admission and retention
program of the College of Teacher Education. This program examined the legal climate
regarding admissions and retention in teacher preparation programs as well as the current
practices of selected programs. This program is for the students to have a professional training
while learning. Teacher preparation programs have more legal latitude than is being employed
for admission and retention decisions, and it is recommended that the field establish
professional norms for retention policies and assessing student dispositions for teaching.

College of Teacher Education (CTE) of Saint Michael College of Caraga will continue
to uphold the quality of service that are needed to produce more effective graduates in the
field of teaching. And may undergo any changes or upgrade in order to attain the needs of the
students.
