1. Objectives
1.1 Determine the drag coefficient of a cylindrical cylinder of diameter 0.01 m (Re=1), 0.01m (Re=1000) and 0.1m
(Re=100,000).
1.2 Compare the drag coefficient predicted by Flow Simulation to the experimental data presented in Ref.1.
2. Conclusions.
1.3 The average drag coefficient of cylindrical cylinder at 0.01 m (Re=1),0.01m(Re=1000) and 0.1m (Re=100,000)
are 11.274, 1.332 and 0.5541 respectively.
1.4 Based on the comparison of drag coefficient predicted by Flow Simulation to the experimental data presented
shows that the flow simulation results are within the experimental cylindrical cylinder drag curve.
3. Recommendations
CFD setup is assumed to be in perfect environment. Testing should be done to evaluate the results in the actual
environment.
