Group Reading Assignment

Each group will be assigned a section of ​A People’s History of Sports​ to read. Your job will be to
read the chapter, break it down into its most essential elements, and present the information to
the class.

Some things to consider while summarizing the information:


1. What are the big ideas of the chapter (what’s it really about)?
2. What are the main events described?
3. Who are the important people discussed and what did they do?

Some of these chapters have a lot of information, so we want to make sure we’re reading for
only the most important information. You want to try to find a balance in which you cover the big
ideas and include some interesting details that illustrate those ideas.

Steps:
1. Come up with a plan - You can break the chapter into chunks with each person
responsible for a chunk of the chapter. This allows you to work more independently.
Alternatively, you could each take on different roles (reader, note taker, director,
presenter etc.) and do all the work together. This approach allows collaboration and
reduces reliance on individual students.
2. Write the names of your group members and what your plan is for completing the task
below.
3. Get to work
4. Create visual for the presentation to help you convey your information - Poster,
Powerpoint, etc.
