TITLE: Entrepreneurship
Maximum Marks: 50
SYLLABUS
Entrepreneurship: Concept, knowledge and skills requirement; characteristic of successful
entrepreneurs; role of entrepreneurship in economic development; entrepreneurship process; factors
impacting emergence of entrepreneurship; function of an entrepreneur, managerial as entrepreneurial
approach and emergence of entrepreneurship.

Starting the venture: generating business idea- sources of new ideas, methods of generating Ideas,
creative problem solving, opportunity recognition; environmental scanning, competitor and industry
analysis; feasibility study – market feasibility, technical, operational feasibility, Financial feasibility;
break even analysis. Drawing business plan; preparing project report; presenting business plan to
investors.

Functional planning-I: market planning- marketing research for the new venture, steps in preparing
marketing plan.
Organizational planning - form of ownership, franchising, designing organization structure;
Manpower planning - job design, recruitments and selection.

Functional planning-II: Financial Planning – need for finance, capital structure, management of
working capital. Sources of finance: debt or equity financing, term loans, commercial banks venture
capital: financial institutions supporting entrepreneurs.

Legal issues: intellectual property rights, patents. Trademarks, copy rights, trade secrets, licensing,
Taxation- Income Tax, Excise duty, Sale Tax, VAT, GST (general description).

Government support: Incentives, Subsidies, Assistance, Infrastructure. Major Governmental Schemes


(Employment), Promotional Institutions, Financial Assistance.
