HP StorageWorks Command View EVA installation guide 9

10 About this guide
1 Preparation
This chapter describes the contents of the software CDs, prerequisites for installing HP Command View
EVA, and the management server types. It also describes how to configure browser settings for HP
Command View EVA.

CD contents
When you purchase HP Command View EVA, you receive the following software CDs:
• HP StorageWorks Command View EVA
• HP StorageWorks Command View EVAPerf
• HP Service Tools
The HP StorageWorks Command View EVA software CD contains the following software:
• HP Command View EVA
• HP Command View EVAPerf
• Storage Management Initiative Specification for Enterprise Virtual Array
• HP Storage System Scripting Utility
The HP Service Tools software CD contains the following software:
• HP Web-based Enterprise Services (WEBES)
• HP Instant Support Enterprise Edition (ISEE)
The HP StorageWorks Command View EVAPerf software CD contains HP Command View EVAPerf only.

HP StorageWorks Command View EVA

HP StorageWorks Command View EVA is the software suite through which you configure, manage, and
monitor the Enterprise Virtual Array (EVA). You can use HP Command View EVA to:
• Create virtual disks
• Set Vraid levels and cache policy
• Create snapclones and snapshots*
• View event information
• Create data replication (DR) groups*
*Requires separate license.

HP StorageWorks Command View EVAPerf

Use HP StorageWorks Command View EVAPerf to monitor and display EVA performance metrics from a
command prompt window or from Windows Performance Monitor. It runs on hosts running Microsoft
Windows 2000 or later and uses data generated by the EVA Data Collection Service.
HP Command View EVAPerf requires that LUN 0 (zero) of an EVA be visible to the host operating system.
However, this does not require that a LUN be presented to the host operating system or mounted as a
drive letter. In large storage area networks, you may need to install HP Command View EVAPerf on
multiple hosts to gain visibility to all EVAs.

HP StorageWorks Command View EVA installation guide 11

Storage Management Initiative Specification for Enterprise Virtual Array
The Storage Management Initiative Specification (SMI-S) is a standard interface sponsored by the
Storage Networking Industry Association (SNIA). SMI-S enables HP and other storage vendors to develop
products to a single standard and eliminates the need for custom or manual integration of HP storage
solutions in multivendor environments.

HP StorageWorks Storage System Scripting Utility

HP StorageWorks Storage System Scripting Utility (hereafter called the utility) is a command line interface
that allows you to configure and control EVA arrays. Use the utility to script and run repetitious and
complex configuration tasks. Use HP StorageWorks Command View EVA, the graphical user interface,
for simple or initial configuration tasks.

HP Web-based Enterprise Services

WEBES must be installed to ensure proper alerts for your EVA products. You can use WEBES as part of
the HP ISEE remote service offering, or you can configure WEBES to send only local (e-mail) notification
(you specify the account). The e-mail option is also available when you use WEBES with ISEE.
WEBES is a service tool that provides real-time diagnosis of hardware events ranging from single errors
(or faults) to multiple event correlation and complex analysis. It is designed to send notification only
when events require a service action.
A Service Tools CD, containing WEBES and ISEE, is included with HP Command View EVA. To make use
of new EVA features, HP recommends that you check the HP WEBES web site to ensure you are running
the latest version of WEBES: http://h18023.www1.hp.com/support/svctools/webes/ .

Prerequisites
Before you install the software:
• Read the HP Command View EVA release notes for any installation or post-installation
requirements specific to this release.
• Ensure your environment includes:
• One or more Enterprise Virtual Arrays
• A management server running a supported version of Microsoft Windows (for more information,
see the HP EVA software compatibility reference)
• Configure the browser settings for any server that will be used to access the HP Command View
EVA user interface. For more information, see "Configuring browser settings" on page 13.
Before you upgrade the software, ensure that the required minimum version of HP Command View EVA is
installed. See the HP Command View EVA release notes for the minimum required version.
After installing the software, the following licenses are required to use replication features:
• HP Business Copy EVA (snapshots and snapclones)
• HP Continuous Access EVA (data replication)
You must have sufficient licenses for the capacity of each array where snapshots and snapclones will be
made or that will be the source or destination of replicated data. See the quickspecs document for HP
Business Copy EVA and HP Continuous Access EVA for more information.

NOTE:
If your environment includes iSCSI devices, see HP StorageWorks EVA iSCSI connectivity quick
installation guide for installation instructions and HP StorageWorks EVA iSCSI connectivity user guide
for configuration information.

12 Preparation
Management server types
You can install the software on the following servers:
• HP OpenView Storage Management Appliance (SMA)—A centralized, dedicated monitoring and
management hardware-software solution for the storage area network.
• General-purpose server—A server other than the HP OpenView Storage Management Appliance
that runs customer applications, such as file and print services
• Dedicated management server—A Windows host that is intended solely for HP storage software,
such as HP OpenView Storage Node Manager, HP OpenView Storage Area Manager add-on
software modules, or HP StorageWorks EVA software.
• HP ProLiant storage server—Specifically, the HP ProLiant DL380 G4 Storage Server (formerly the
HP NAS 4000) and the HP ProLiant DL585 Storage Server (formerly the HP NAS 9000).
For hardware and software specifications, see the HP EVA software compatibility reference.

NOTE:
If you are upgrading HP Command View EVA on a ProLiant storage server, HP recommends that you
update the server with SmartStart 7.2 or later for improved security.

Configuring browser settings

HP Command View EVA requires certain browser settings to operate properly. This section describes the
recommended browser settings for Internet Explorer and Mozilla. Configure the browser as described in
this section; otherwise, the HP Command View EVA user interface will not display properly.

Internet Explorer settings

HP recommends that you configure the management server with the security settings appropriate to
your environment, and browse to the management server from a client machine using Internet Explorer
settings appropriate for HP Command View EVA. In Windows environments, you may not be able to
achieve the proper Internet Explorer settings on a management server with Microsoft's IE Enhanced
Security Configuration (IEESC) or other policy-enforced settings installed. If you are browsing from an
IEESC-configured management server, you must uninstall IEESC and manually configure Internet Explorer
with the required HP Command View EVA browser settings.
Table 2 describes the browser settings for Internet Explorer. The settings are not all-inclusive; only those
settings that apply to HP Command View EVA are listed. If a setting appears in bold, it is important
to configure the setting as described.

Mozilla browser settings
Table 3 describes the browser settings for Mozilla. The settings are not all-inclusive; only those settings
that apply to HP Command View EVA are listed. If a setting appears in bold, it is important to configure
the setting as described.
The recommended settings should enable the browser to properly display HP Command View EVA fonts
and page layouts. Many UNIX environments, however, do not handle fonts and page layouts consistently.
You may have to make adjustments for the most readable HP Command View EVA page layouts. For
example, if your browser is set for large fonts, it may cause HP Command View EVA's property tables to
appear crowded and unreadable. You may want to reduce the font size for your browser.

NOTE:
Tooltips are not available in Mozilla.

NOTE:
After installing SMI-S EVA, use the cimuser utility to change the default user names and passwords. To
invoke the cimuser utility, open a command window on the server where SMI-S EVA is installed, and
enter cimuser. To learn more about the utility, run the cimuser —— help command.

Modifying the EVAprovider.properties file

You can modify the EVAprovider.properties file to set up the SMI-S EVA service. The file is located
in the C:\Program Files\Hewlett-Packard\pegasus_home\bin\EVAprovider directory.
Use a text editor to modify the EVAprovider.properties file as follows:
• Max_Log_Filesize—The maximum size of each debug file. The default value is 10 MB.
• Max_Log_Files—The maximum number of provider log files that are allowed in the CIMOM
directory. Use this parameter to limit the debug data that accumulates in the directory. When
the file size reaches the threshold specified in the Max_Log_Filesize parameter, a new
log file is created. The number of log files that are created is limited by the value you specify
for Max_Log_Files. The default value is 5.

NOTE:
In the C:\Program Files\Hewlett-Packard\pegasus_home\logs\EVAprovider
directory, the first log file is overwritten when the following occurs:
• The number of files reaches the limit specified in the Max_Log_Files parameter
• The size of each file reaches the maximum limit specified in the Max_Log_Filesize
parameter
This is a cyclical process. After the first file is overwritten, the next file is overwritten.

After modifying the EVAprovider.properties file, restart the Pegasus CIM Object Manager service.

Troubleshooting SMI-S EVA

This section describes troubleshooting information about installing and configuring SMI-S EVA.

SMI-S EVA was not installed

If you aborted the installation or removal of a previous SMI-S EVA version, some files, registry keys,
and services may be retained and prevent the installation of SMI-S EVA. You must clean up the server
before installing SMI-S EVA:
1. Remove SMI-S EVA using Add/Remove Programs.
2. Delete the C:\Program Files\Hewlett-Packard\pegasus_home folder.
3. Restart the server.
4. Follow steps 2–8 in "Installing SMI-S EVA" on page 25.

NOTE:
The HP Client SDK folder must be saved in the C:\Program Files\Hewlett-Packard
directory.
You must use the CIMOMClient.jar and CIMOMServer.jar files with the earlier version of
HP/SNIA CIMOM-based clients to work with the SMI-S EVA provider. The .jar files are located in the
C:\Program Files\Hewlett-Packard\HP Client SDK directory.

SMI-S EVA service does not start
Verify that the Pegasus CIM Object Manager service appears in the Services window and that the service
is running. If not, select the service and click Start.

SMI-S EVA service is unable to populate data

Check if the C:\Program Files\Hewlett-Packard\pegasus_home\reposi-
tory\root#eva\classes directory is empty. If the directory is empty, load the MOFs by invoking
the LoadEvaMofs.bat batch file located in the C:\Program Files\Hewlett-Packard\pega-
sus_home\mof\hp directory.
To load the MOF:
1. Stop the CIMOM.
2. Disable authentication by setting the enableAuthentication parameter to false in the
C:\Program Files\Hewlett-Packard\pegasus_home\cimserver_planned.conf file.
3. Delete the root#eva folder located in the C:\Program Files\Hewlett-
Packard\pegasus_home\repository directory.
4. Start the CIMOM.
5. Run the LoadEvaMofs.bat and LoadInterOpMofs.bat tools located in the C:\Program
Files\Hewlett-Packard\pegasus_home\mof\hp directory.

NOTE:
If the MOF files are present in the root#PG_Interop directory, running the LoadInterOpMofs.bat
tool displays the CIM_ERR_ALREADY_EXISTS error.

To register the MOF:

1. Stop the CIMOM.
2. Delete all the files present in the C:\Program Files\Hewlett-Packard\pega-
sus_home\repository\root#PG_InterOp\instances directory.
3. Start the CIMOM.
4. Run the RegisterEvaMofs.bat tool located in the C:\Program Files\Hewlett-
Packard\pegasus_home\mof\RegistrationMofs directory.

SMI-S EVA fails to retrieve data

If SMI-S EVA fails to retrieve data, determine if:
• The server is active or passive. If the server is passive, access to the array is limited; data is
populated only for the enumerate instance of the StorageSystem call.
• The HP Command View EVA and the Pegasus CIM Object Manager services are running on
the server.
To check this:
• Select Start > Settings > Control Panel > Administrative Tools > Services window.
If either service is not running, select the service and click Start.

6 Troubleshooting
This chapter describes known issues and suggested resolutions for troubleshooting the software
installation. For SMI-S EVA issues, see “Troubleshooting SMI-S EVA.”

Login failure
ProLiant servers include the SmartStart utility to assist with operating system and software installation and
array configuration. Using Smart Start 7.2 or later may cause login failures for applications using the HP
Command View EVA API. Specifically, a login failure occurs if you did not use the API after a previous HP
Command View EVA installation and you upgrade HP Command View EVA and attempt to use the API.

NOTE:
Using SmartStart 7.2 or later to upgrade a management server on which HP Command View EVA was
previously installed does not cause the login failure.

The following applications are affected:

• HP StorageWorks Command View EVAPerf
• HP Navigator
• HP OpenView Storage Area Manager device plug-in
• HP StorageWorks Replication Solutions Manager
• SMI-S EVA
• HP Storage Essentials
• HP StorageWorks Storage System Scripting Utility
• HP Support Data Collector
• HP WEBES
You must reset the HP Command View EVA API password. After installing HP Command View EVA on a
ProLiant server that uses SmartStart 7.2 or later, run the following executable (where administrator is
the new password you want to use):
C:\Program Files\Hewlett-Packard\SANworks\Element Manager for StorageWorks
HSV\Bin\elmsetup.exe -pA:administrator -f
Go to the Services window and restart the HP Command View EVA service. The new password takes
effect only after you restart this service.
Consider the following when using this procedure:
• Only a user with system administrator authority can reset the HP Command View API password.
• If security of the executable used to reset the password is a concern, HP recommends that you
remove this executable from the server. For example, you could put the utility on a CD and
store the CD in a secure location.
• You can use this executable to reset the password if it is forgotten.

Power failure during installation
If a power failure occurs during installation, complete the following procedure:
1. Insert the software CD into the CD-ROM drive.
2. Open Windows Explorer and browse to the CD.
3. Double-click setup.exe.
One of the following windows opens:
• If the Windows registry was updated before the power failure, the InstallShield Wizard
Welcome window for the Setup Maintenance program opens. Continue with step 4.
• If the Windows registry was not updated before the power failure, the standard InstallShield
Wizard Welcome window opens. You should proceed as if it was a new installation. See
“Installing HP Command View EVA” for instructions.
4. Select Repair.
The InstallShield Wizard reinstalls all program components and completes the installation.

Power failure during removal

If a power failure occurs during removal, use Windows Add/Remove Programs to repair and then
remove HP Command View EVA.

Deleting folders affects HP Command View EVA removal

When you install HP Command View EVA, the _unist and _jvm folders are added to the C:\Program
Files\Compaq\SANworks\Element Manager for StorageWorks HSV directory. If you delete
one or both of these folders and you attempt to remove HP Command EVA, the removal will fail.
To resolve this issue, re-install HP Command View EVA and perform the removal again.

Failed connection warning for uncabled controller host ports

If a direct connection between the array and a Windows server leaves a controller host port uncabled,
an error may appear in the user interface. Specifically, the Connection state field on the Host Ports
tab of the Controller Properties page in the user interface may display Connection failed for
an uncabled host port.
This situation may cause a persistent Attention indication in the Navigation pane. To prevent the
Attention indication, pull the GBIC modules from uncabled ports on the controller. If the system is already
initialized, removing the GBICs will generate an associated one-time controller event. See the HP
Command View EVA user guide for more information about the user interface and events.

Unable to access the user interface

On the SMA, if you remove HP Command View EVA and reinstall version 3.2, the following error
appears when you access the HP Command View EVA user interface:
HTTP Status 404, Page Not Found
Use either of the following URLs to access the user interface, where localhost is the management
server name or IP address:
https://localhost:2381/ResEltCpqFusion
http://localhost:2301/ResEltCpqFusion
