Management server types
You can install the software on the following servers:
• HP OpenView Storage Management Appliance (SMA)—A centralized, dedicated monitoring and
management hardware-software solution for the storage area network.
• General-purpose server—A server other than the HP OpenView Storage Management Appliance
that runs customer applications, such as file and print services
• Dedicated management server—A Windows host that is intended solely for HP storage software,
such as HP OpenView Storage Node Manager, HP OpenView Storage Area Manager add-on
software modules, or HP StorageWorks EVA software.
• HP ProLiant storage server—Specifically, the HP ProLiant DL380 G4 Storage Server (formerly the
HP NAS 4000) and the HP ProLiant DL585 Storage Server (formerly the HP NAS 9000).
For hardware and software specifications, see the HP EVA software compatibility reference.
NOTE:
If you are upgrading HP Command View EVA on a ProLiant storage server, HP recommends that you

NOTE:
When you install HP Command View EVA, HP Command View EVAPerf and HP Storage System Scripting
Utility are installed automatically. You also have the option of installing SMI-S EVA.
NOTE:
After accepting the license agreement, HP Command View EVAPerf is installed. Next,
you are prompted to install SMI-S EVA. If you select Yes, SMI-S EVA is installed after HP
Command View EVA is installed. If you select No, see "Installing SMI-S EVA" on page 25
for instructions to install SMI-S EVA manually.
After HP Command View EVA is installed, the InstallShield Wizard summary window opens. The
following message appears:
HP strongly recommends that Web-based Enterprise Services (WEBES)
be installed. WEBES is a tool suite that is aimed at preventing or
reducing your system’s down time.
You can download the most current version of WEBES from http://h18023.www1.hp.com/support/
svctools/webes/.
6. If you install the software on an SMA, you may be prompted to reboot. Select Yes, I want to
restart the computer now.
7. Click Finish.
If you chose to install SMI-S EVA, the InstallShield wizard for SMI-S EVA begins. See "Installing
SMI-S EVA" on page 25 for more information.
NOTE:
You can also use Windows Add/Remove Programs to install the software.
CAUTION:
When you remove HP Command View EVA, HP Command View EVAPerf and HP Storage System
Scripting Utility are removed automatically. Further, you are completely removing HP Command View
EVA from the management server and not reverting to a previous version of the software.
NOTE:
When you install HP Command View EVA, HP Command View EVAPerf and HP Storage System Scripting
Utility are installed automatically. However, follow the procedures in this chapter if you need to reinstall
HP Command View EVAPerf only or if you want to install it on another server.
NOTE:
You can also use Windows Add/Remove Programs to install (or upgrade) the software.
NOTE:
HP recommends that you back up the fnames.conf file before proceeding with the upgrade.
Follow the procedure in "Installing HP Command View EVAPerf" on page 21. The only differences are
that the InstallShield Wizard indicates that it is an upgrade and the License Agreement window does
not appear.
CAUTION:
Move all data files from the application directory to a temporary directory before you remove the
software. Otherwise you will lose your data.
NOTE:
The CIM-WBEM password is not set previously. The password is set when you enter
it during this step.
NOTE:
In the C:\Program Files\Hewlett-Packard\pegasus_home\logs\EVAprovider
directory, the first log file is overwritten when the following occurs:
• The number of files reaches the limit specified in the Max_Log_Files parameter
• The size of each file reaches the maximum limit specified in the Max_Log_Filesize
parameter
This is a cyclical process. After the first file is overwritten, the next file is overwritten.
After modifying the EVAprovider.properties file, restart the Pegasus CIM Object Manager service.

NOTE:
The HP Client SDK folder must be saved in the C:\Program Files\Hewlett-Packard
directory.
You must use the CIMOMClient.jar and CIMOMServer.jar files with the earlier version of
HP/SNIA CIMOM-based clients to work with the SMI-S EVA provider. The .jar files are located in the
C:\Program Files\Hewlett-Packard\HP Client SDK directory.
NOTE:
If the MOF files are present in the root#PG_Interop directory, running the LoadInterOpMofs.bat
tool displays the CIM_ERR_ALREADY_EXISTS error.

6 Troubleshooting
This chapter describes known issues and suggested resolutions for troubleshooting the software
installation. For SMI-S EVA issues, see “Troubleshooting SMI-S EVA.”
Login failure
ProLiant servers include the SmartStart utility to assist with operating system and software installation and
array configuration. Using Smart Start 7.2 or later may cause login failures for applications using the HP
Command View EVA API. Specifically, a login failure occurs if you did not use the API after a previous HP
Command View EVA installation and you upgrade HP Command View EVA and attempt to use the API.
NOTE:
Using SmartStart 7.2 or later to upgrade a management server on which HP Command View EVA was
previously installed does not cause the login failure.
30 Troubleshooting
Glossary
This glossary defines terms that are used in this guide or are related to the software.
client An intelligent device that requests services from other intelligent devices. In the
context of HP Command View EVA, a client is a computer that is used to access
the software remotely using a supported browser.
default disk group The disk group that is created when the array is initialized. The minimum
number of disks the group can contain is eight. The maximum is the number
of installed disks.
disk group A named group of disks selected from all the available disks in an array. One
or more virtual disks can be created from a disk group.
DR group Data replication group. A named group of virtual disks selected from one or
more disk groups so that they replicate to the same destination, fail over together
if a member virtual disk fails, and preserve write order within the group.
EVA Enterprise Virtual Array. An HP StorageWorks disk array product that allows
pooled disk capacity to be presented to hosts as one or more variably sized
physical devices. An EVA consists of disks, controllers, cables, power supplies,
and controller software. Storage system, virtual array, and storage array are
other names for an EVA. See also virtual disks.
See also virtual disk.
failover An operation that reverses replication direction so that the destination becomes
the source and the source becomes the destination. Failovers can be planned
or unplanned and can occur between DR groups, managed sets, fabrics or
paths, and array controllers.
host A computer that runs user applications and uses (or potentially uses) one or
more virtual disks that are created and presented by the array controller.
near-online stor- On-site storage of data on media that takes only slightly longer to access than
age online storage kept on high-speed disk drives.
online storage An allotment of storage space that is available for immediate use, such as a
peripheral device that is turned on and connected to a server.
SAN Storage area network, a network of storage devices and the initiators that
store and retrieve information on those devices, including the communication
infrastructure.
snapclone A copy that begins as a fully allocated snapshot and becomes an independent
virtual disk. Applies only to the HP StorageWorks EVA.
snapshot A nearly instantaneous copy of the contents of a virtual disk created without
interruption of operations on the source virtual disk. Snapshots are typically
used for short-term tasks such as backups.
UUID Unique Universal Identifier, a unique 128–bit identifier for each component of
an array. UUIDs are internal system values that users cannot modify.
virtual array General term for an EVA. See also virtual disk.
virtual disk Variable disk capacity that is defined and managed by the array controller
and presentable to hosts as a disk.
