Purpose and Description

The proposed system is designed for taking attendance of students

through fingerprint sensor and sending notifications to their respective parents.

In the process of taking attendance of a student, he/she needs to tap

his/her finger in the fingerprint sensor or if the finger fails to be recognized he can

optionally input his/her student ID. The project developers designed an admin

login system for security purposes to avoid tampering of attendance. And to

avoid such tampering by the students, if the sensor fails to recognize the finger,

the designated admin is the one who will manually input the student id and re-

login his/her credentials. After a successful attendance, a text message will be

sent to the students’ parents to notify that his/her son/daughter is currently in the

class. The fingerprint sensor will be attached to the Arduino module that will

serve as its microcontroller.

Objectives

The project developers developed a Fingerprint-Based Activity Attendance

Monitoring System with SMS for Notification.

Specifically, the developed system aims to;

1. control all the devices that are connected to the system through

Arduino;

2. get the students’ identification and attendance through fingerprint

scanner;

3. view students’ profiles and information through computer

application;

4. send confirmation to students by means of global system for mobile

communication (GSM) module;

5. update students’ records and account.

Scope and Limitations

The proposed system can be used in broad ways such as: taking

students’ attendance through fingerprint scanner, sending notification messages

via GSM module through SMS, and creating generated report on the system

application. However, the system cannot execute tasks like: accessing the

registrars records, generate reports directly to the report card, computing grades

of the students, and motivating student to come to school.
