CREATIVITY ON TRANSLATIONS

WHAT IS A TRANSLATION

Translation demands a deep understanding of both grammar and culture. Like any
other profession, translation is a job where many common challenges are faced even by
experts.

Translators need to know the rules of a language as well as the habits of the people who
speak it. And even for the most experienced professionals. Still, each translation job is
unique, here are some most common challenges that occur while translation:-

Technical translation requires a combination of skills

Translation is not simple. It has often be referred to as an impossible task and it is not surprising to
come across notions such as “translator as traitor”. The world has a biased perception of
translators. Working hard, in the shadows, invisible and often confronted with prejudice, they face
the risk of getting lost in translation, not to mention a variety of other issues and concerns
regarding their profession as a whole. It is, in fact, by means of the combination of skills
translators are endowed with, that they will better overcome the challenges of their profession.

When the audience reads a translated text, it cannot possibly know all the layers and dot
connections the translator has creatively employed to produce the text.

It is, therefore, not a surprise to come across translators with an admirable set of skills, which are
either an extension of their work and/or a question of their nature as creatives.
1)Language Structure:-

The challenge comes when the language is complex. Every language sits inside a
defined structure with its own agreed upon rules. The complexity and singularity of
this framework directly correlate to the difficulty of translation.

2)Culture:-

Many of the spoken dialects in many languages, which can affect content. Culture plays
a major part in the use of a language. If the language is simple, the translation is also
easier and simpler.

3)Compound words:-

Compound words are composed of two or three nouns and adjectives that are
combined. There are three forms of compound words:- Closed form, Hyphenated form,
Open form.

4)Words with multiple meanings:-

The use of a word or words in a sentence could give them different meanings. There are
words that sound alike (homonyms) such as scale (of a fish) and (weighing) scale. So
these words create challenges while translating.
